Woke up to Alex Hartley on the radio saying about getting some Wood first thing in the morning, the saucy minx

Nonsense to give that out on review.

    Wood gone for 39.

Sorry, I woke up, checked score, read positive things about wood, walked to tv and before I turned on got a wicket alert on phone. Sorry all. Telly remains off, going back to bed and won’t check score again.

  • I'm guessing this is woods dismissal

I'm not a fan of Bairstow in Red ball cricket but that is a fantastic counter attacking century.
  • Well played Bairstow.

England's first century of the series.

England 36 for 4 when Bairstow came in to bat.
    So credit where it's due.

Yes. Given not out, reviewed by the Aussies and overturned. Umpire shook his head as he gave it out.

The photo above is at an angle, would the third umpire have seen this or would he have seen it side on? No justify the decision as it's clearly not out, just trying to understand how he got it wrong

Woke up having gone to sleep at 30odd for 4 to see comments about Wood batting bravely and assumed it was the second innings.

  • Well done Bairstow, didn't see that coming at all, pleased to be proven wrong.

Needs to practice his batting first.

Fair play bairstow - his biggest critic in red ball but well done. No one is more delighted than joe root - this knock means he can keep selecting him for another 2 years.

Bairstow returned to the team with a clearly tightened technique last summer and played some decent knocks against India. I'm not surprised. Good on him.

Buttler had best not get any second-innings runs though. End this misery. End it now.

Or they know he won’t be around the England team for while.

Its the anniversary of David Bairstow's death this week. Big innings Jonny! Your dad would be so proud!

billings added to the squad. Think buttler's getting an early flight home by the looks of it

I thought that as well .. 'sweet' lil Alex comes across well on TV, but on radio, her high pitched cheeky tones just don't have the same impact, THAT IS when the commentators let her get a word in
Also, Aggers seems to be spending far more time working for Qzzie media than for the BBC. I hope my licence money (yes I still pay the full whack) is not going towards paying for yet another highly paid Beeb 'part timer'

    Here endeth the morning whinge

Guessing Stokes may be out of the 5th Test too.

oh forgot .. congratulations to Bairstow .. back in form and greedy for runs after a very bleak spell .. all done on an increasingly lively wicket against tall and very hostile bowling AND with a damaged thumb .. brilliant and brave..
AND .. Mark Wood is the first batsman EVER to hit Cummins for three sixes in an innings .. take that you smug Digger
  • Cook throws it away again for 189
Before I went to bed (at lunch) I was going to suggest that England wouldn't get past Cook's 189, but thankfully we exceeded my expectations!

  • Cummins was out to an odd Snicko incident as well, where the spike seemed to happen one frame after the ball had passed his bat

Buttler struggling, Stokes with an injured side and Bairstow with an injured thumb which might not stop him batting, but may make keeping difficult. Billings being in Australia already, it makes sense to keep him on.

Especially as he's a better keeper than either Bairstow or Buttler, though I don't think he kept much for Kent in the CC last summer, with Robinson taking the gloves much of the time
