I have a relative who is a retired paramedic.Big_Bad_World said:
I think we can agree that both are an avoidable drain on NHS resources. Also, in both instances, those invloved could do with looking at themselves and doing/being better.Garrymanilow said:
Sure, I agree with that, but learned behaviours are something that take a lot of time to set in and time to undo. You don't become obese through contact with the obese. People can't hide or be unaware of their obesity and then pass it on to you through close contact. There is a lot of work that needs to be done in this country and the rest of the world to encourage healthy eating, but Novak isn't going to suddenly become obese because he sat in a room with Nolan. Nolan however very much could have caught Covid if he'd been sat in that same room with Novak in December, because the bloke was apparently wandering round handing it out to anyone he could find. Nolan could then have inadvertently passed it on to any number of people and the chain could have stopped with him or spread to many, many more including someone vulnerable. The two things aren't at all comparable in terms of how they spread and how they can be combated.Big_Bad_World said:
No, but it is a behavioral trait that a sizeable chunk (no pun intended) of children of overweight/fat/obese people learn/take from their parents.Garrymanilow said:
Can you pass obesity on through close contact, creating an exponential chain that can ultimately affect someone who is elderly, immuno-compromised or otherwise vulnerable, possibly leading to their hospitalisation and/or death? Is Nolan using his influence as a radio presenter, a famously non-sight based medium, to throw doubt on the legitimacy of healthy eating and encourage others to eat several pounds of lard a day through that influence? It doesn't matter if Novak can boy off Covid with the power of positive thinking and being super fit. What matters is his words and his belief that the fact he's good at hitting things with other things makes him suitable to dish out his widely-reported opinions on medical matters despite them contradicting what actual scientists and doctors say. Obesity is a problem nationally that will put strain on the NHS, but these two things aren't comparable. Nolan's obesity affects him, Novak's idiocy will influence someone under-informed and easily led and cause harm to others.shine166 said:
Kinda thing I think, when people on the covid thread lecture others about jabs.
Genetics are also a factor, but witnessed behaviors take some undoing.
He assured me that there are far more bed bound clinically overweight people out there than we can ever imagine.
He hated going to their homes, because the problem is more often than not about the people who are actually giving them their food.
He found it very hard to be polite or caring in their presence.2 -

Can't wait for his press conference.
I'd love him to explain how he supposedly applied for a visa in November, on the basis that he had a medical exemption (which appears to be that he recently had covid) even though at the time of the application he was still 2 weeks away from catching it, as proven in the court documents his own team submitted.
It's so obvious (in my opinion) that their plan all along was to submit a fake test result, and they just didn't think through the repercussions of the event he went to on the 17th. Wouldn't surprise me if they'd even forgotten by then (remember this was 2-3 weeks after the application) that he was supposed to be positive on that date.
He might be many things, but if he had genuinely had covid i don't believe Djokovic would have been at an event with kids and then at a shoot for L'equipe.

I'm a proper fat fuck, but Im on a Brixton, never smoked in my life, only have the odd beer at Christmas, and I decided to get triple vaccinated.
Does that make me a better person? Couldn't give a shit tbh. "You do you"0 -
Love everyone that's deliberately missing the point I'm making, I know a cracking sofa to 5k app if you want to make long term changes. In 12 months the covid pandemic will be over and the obesity crisis can continue.1

I hope he gets asked to explain fully. If only because other players have not entered the open but could have gone his 'route'.Chris_from_Sidcup said:Can't wait for his press conference.

We all get your point, just on the wrong thread, start an obesity thread if you wanna share what you’ve done.shine166 said:Love everyone that's deliberately missing the point I'm making, I know a cracking sofa to 5k app if you want to make long term changes. If you want to talk about combating obesity make your own thread. But it's not relevant here, only serves to try and somehow infer that Novax is innocent of all blame here because he's fit and healthy?3 -
Fit as a butcher's dog, me.
Does that mean I'm somehow more qualified to discuss whether someone who isn't vaccinated is a risk to society? Of course it doesn't - just like prior to the pandemic, where commenting on the selfish stupidity of arseholes not vaccinating their kids against Measles wasn't the exclusive purview of the fitness elite.8 -
Yeah admittedly I went a bit off thread (but Still relevant) so will stop posting on this threadSELR_addicks said:

I'd say post wherever you want. I'd take 1 of your contributions over 100 of the other cretins who regularly troll the various vaccine/covid threads any day of the week - even if I don't agree with a lot of what you post, at least it's coherent, has a point to it and isn't posted from an entirely selfish viewpoint.shine166 said:

Well yes, he's either faked a positive test to gain exemption, or he's gone out and about whilst knowingly positive. So either way he's an idiot.PrincessFiona said:

He should have to one way or another. But I don't suppose he cares as long as he gets to do what he wants, as that's all that mattersbobmunro said:

I understand your point - you're simply saying that people who, in your opinion, are inflicting harm or illness on themselves, have no right to criticise anti-vaxxers on the grounds of being a strain on the NHS.shine166 said:Love everyone that's deliberately missing the point I'm making, I know a cracking sofa to 5k app if you want to make long term changes. Assuming that's correct and that is your point. I think everyone who thinks that (pro-vaccine or anti) should give their heads a good wobble. It would be interesting to see how many of the people taking up hospital beds at this moment, are there because of their own doing, either directly or indirectly.
Smoking.
Obesity.
Alcohol.
Drugs.
Driving too vast.
Extrem sports.
Slipping in bathroom due to not being organised and rushing for work.
Not wearing ppe on building sites / in factories.
Mixing in the wrong crowd and getting stabbed.
Failed suicide.
Etc.
Etc.
Some of those are quite emotive, some not so, but it's easy to see how you can lay blame at the patients feet if you feel inclined. This has happened to me, I've had to listen to opinions from some of (not all of) my know-nothing extended family and friends that, due to excessive drinking in my younger days, I needed a kidney transplant in my 30s. They ignore the problems I had when I was at primary school and cast aspersions. Of course, my specialists, you know, the ones who spent x years studying at university and on the job, have confirmed it was condition I had from birth and I was always going to need a new kidney regardless. Before I asked the right people though, I was having treatment while thinking my illness was of my own doing. Tbh, this probably put me off going to hospital in the past too
Back to the vaccine though - I am 100% pro-choice, but if we're gonna have an argument about it; I look at the preaching anti-vaxers as people I wouldn't want to be stuck in a trench with because I'll be going over the top on my jax.2 -

Djokovic senior has said Novak has been rearrested !
Will he appear in a centre court or an outside court ?5 -
According to the BBC:
- Novak Djokovic has returned to the tennis court after winning a court battle in Australia that overturned his visa cancellation, his family says
- "Novak is free," his brother tells a press conference in Belgrade, Serbia
- "Justice has won and the rule of law has won," his father tells the media
- The men's number one himself is expected to join them by video link - he is yet to make any public appearance since being freed from detention
- Djokovic's lawyers argued in court that the visa cancellation was unreasonable and the judge agreed
- But Australia's immigration minister still has powers to re-cancel the visa and deport the unvaccinated tennis player
