Bolton are waiting to hear a response back from Gillingham for Kyle Dempsey… offer is around £150,000 including bonuses.
Surely we can match that or better can’t we?
I think we offered £100k in the summer - about a fifth of what Scally wanted

(apparently we did admit we were trying to pull their pants down)
shame we blew it on kirk instead - not that i have a clue how good dempsey is but sounds like the sort of player we need

I don't think it was a case of Kirk being instead of Dempsey - he sounds more like a player in the mold of Gilbey (who we already had signed up) or what Adkins believed/wanted Morgan to be.

Dempsey is the sort of player we should have made a priority once JFC got injured.

Morgan only played once under Adkins once after Gilbey was fit and Arter and Lee had signed.  I don't think Adkins willingly nailed all his hopes on Morgan, he was literally left with no choice.

We can debate how good, or not, our summer signings were individually but to go five or six games without a left (who was injured weeks before the season started), without a JFC replacement and without an Aneke replacement was negligence at worse, stupidity at best.

I totally agree - but I'm not sure that Dempsey is the answer to any of those. Possibly he'd be a replacement/cover for JFC but they don't seem that similar in style to me - with the admission that I only watched Dempsey against us.

I’d say Dempsey was most like Gilbey personally, busy, gets around the pitch, nice & tidy.

I think he could have been cover / competition for both those players.

Discounting Watson we actually only have 4 CM’s covering 3 places so we are very light in the case of injuries, form, rotation

If Dempsey is only good enough to cover Gilbey he’s not the answer. We need to move players like Watson on as soon as we can and replace them with first choice players.

You have got to have specific roles in the midfield, with the skill set to match.  Last season we had about 10 players play in "centeral midfield" no 2 of which were similar in style or skill set.  Every time we made a change we had to change more than if we had a like for like.

Our best two patches of form over the last year we got that right with Watson/JFC/Gilbey then Dobson/Gilbey/Lee.

The midfield recruitment, over the last 3 windows, seems like if we get enough of them the manager can sort it out.  It's taken a change of manager to sort it out twice.

If we had 2 Dobsons, 2 Gilbeys, JFC, a better Lee and Morgan we would be laughing.  Dempsey would be a good addition IMO.

Are you all sure you're talking about the same Dempsey here?

  • I see Millwall have signed Oliver Burke on loan from Sheff United

When RB Leipzig signed him from Forest in 2016, he was going to be the next big thing, but has done nothing since then

Exactly the sort of midfield I want next year. Although I'm happy with Lee instead of Morgan if he can rediscover some form. So 2 Dobsons, 2 Gilbey's, JFC, Lee and an upgrade on Lee. Although I think Clare is fine as back up to Gilbey too.

Need 1 real quality addition to partner Dobson and Gilbey, with another Dobson, JFC, Clare and Lee as back up. That would be one of the strongest midfielders in the division, I think we're just missing a creative midfielder capable of scoring 8-10 goals, I'm not sure Dempsey is the answer. He's clearly a good player but I'd sooner Clare was given another go in midfield to be honest. Dempsey scored a few last season but other than that, rarely chips in. Do we really need another tidy midfielder who doesn't score many?

he's done very little anywhere, often not even making the Scotland squad and actually dropped to the U20s then U21s after making his debut for the seniors (13 senior appearances since 2016).

  • Overhyped after a few good games at Forest and has done fuck all since leaving.
  • If he can rediscover his early career form, and continues the promise he showed when he came on against Blackpool at the weekend, then he could prove to be a very astute acquisition indeed.

Adam Clayton [Unattached - Doncaster] Free .. I've seen Clayton play a few times, at his peak he was a very competitive, very capable midfielder .. I wonder what's still left in the tank, he's now 33

no, i meant the money, not the position - an all round midfielder / captain type character is what i meant and if we were going to spend some money, thats an important position to get right

Fingers crossed he will be a flop.

Missing, so obviously missing.  Mark Kinsella would massively improve this team and he is nearly 50!

Oh, right. That I do definitely agree with. We do miss the kind of leadership that Jackson bought to the pitch, where he could pick up a team by his example.
  • Pompey have signed a couple of players today, left back Denver Hume from Sunderland and a young keeper Ollie Webber from Palace

Jack Clarke on loan to Sunderland is potentially a great signing

Wednesday have taken Harlee Dean from Brum on loan, I'm sure he's been linked with us before
  • Tyreece John-Jules has gone back out on loan, to Wednesday, after an unsuccessful spell at Blackpool

Was told this was exactly what would be happening the same time I was told we were working on a deal for Aneke. The plan was always for Taylor to join Birmingham and Chuks would come back here. Bow and Taylor never fell out, that one is a myth.

We have already signed two…..and have another in the pipeline.

Great work by our management team.

Not sure how Bowyer can stomach even looking at Taylor in the eyes after the way he left yet alone consider signing him.

I know football is full of mercenaries but why on earth you'd want someone with his character in your club is beyond me, especially when you've seen first hand he's ready to down tools whenever he feels like and has contributed to having a relegation on your CV.
