I'm sure it is a nice pub but once went to the Sarah Hughes brewery tap in Dudley about 11am. Some guy in there, wasted at that hour had a huge pit bull on a chain link leash and the animal didn't like strangers (nor did his dog). Never quaffed a 6.5% beer so fast.2

Looking for some random help on the King & Queen in Mottingham (in the 80s). Mrs is involved in an art project involving Mottingham history and wants to know what was on the sign from the pub in the 80s if anyone remembers or can share any photos.0

Not really scary, but I went to this bar in NY a couple of years back. It was so dark you could barely see the other end of the bar. Good beer though. I sent a message to a bunch of people telling them that if the never heard from me again, this was the last place I went in.

The Henry Cooper ... 1987 ... mate got a pint glass wrapped around his neck. Very scary, very bloody ... he was lucky and I've never returned to Old Kent Road.0

I’m younger than most in here so never went pub “back in the day” if you like (70s/80s/90s) which was clearly more of a heyday compared with post millennium pub goers like myself.I can’t honestly remember ever being in a scary pub, but I’ve seen many tear ups of course, The Bell, The Greyhound and the Walkabout all in Bromley was where it all started for me circa 2004, always a decent punch up come closing time on a Friday.The worst I’ve seen was in the jolly fenman near Avery hill, some loud mount got smashed with several snookers balls and a cue over something or other (drugs I think). The geeza that got done had a lump on his head similar to Tom after Jerry hits him with a hammer in the cartoon. He stayed and carried on with his sesh after though so fair play.
Some mentioned the Prince of wales Mottingham, I always found this alright to be honest, although I was never a regular.0 -
Public bar entrance there. I spent a fair bit of my youth in that bar and the saloon bar round the front. used to be a pub in Dagenham, (late 70s/early 80s) ,The Henry Ford, very popular as you'd guess with Ford workers from across the road .. there were so many fights and general trouble that the nickname for the pub was The Henry Cooper .. last I heard it had been converted to a MacDonaldsdicktracey said:The Henry Cooper ... 1987 ... mate got a pint glass wrapped around his neck. I noticed way back a reference to The Pompadours in Harold Hill. I lived on the Hill for a while and the Pomps was my then local during my drinking years. A VERY lively boozer, but not a great many fights that I can recall.0 -

We must have been lucky as we used to to the Old Kent Rd regularly and never had any bother. Used to go to all these places and also a couple of places just off the road itself, Samsons and Gillies/Jillies.MillwallFan said:

I was in there one night and had a slow dance with a girl at the end. Was wearing chinos, suffered an unwanted hard on and couldn't hide it. My mates thought it was hilarious and her mates were pointing over and laughing as well. Needless to say, the girl made her excuses and left after the dance.Redhenry said:

Why did i keep going out down the OKR??Yeah, the OKR was our stomping ground. BITD, after a day at Millwall, home or away, we’d more often than not end up down there until the early hours. Loved the place. Saw the odd bit of trouble but nothing too bad. Saw just as bad on nights out in places like Bromley and Beckenham. Sad to see what the OKR has become now. All the pubs and clubs have gone and it’s turned in to a proper shit tip.6 -

Apples & Pears ? .. THE pub in the OKR area during the 60s and 70s, young people came there from all over south London .. not a LOT of trouble there though, generally good vibes with the occasional minor ruck0

Tropics was on Rotherhithe New Road, a bit of a walk from the OKR. Used to use it all the time on match days when we first moved to the new ground.Gribbo said:

Met my first long term Mrs in the Gin Palace on OKR. I think it was tenner to get in, 50p a drink. Then they changed it to £15 to get in, and everyone got the hump lol1 -
Seem to remember the floor in the A & P was always covered in glass, people just used to drop their glasses where they stood.
Saw a fight in there one night when someone who took a beating was then tipped over the balcony that run round the outside of the pub.0 -

Love a rough pub. My favourite was on the Scottish island Islay. Went on a whisky tour with my dad, kiwi uncle and his Turkish brother in law. Stayed in a nice hotel with a really friendly bar, nice staff, friendly customers.
Decided to go to the pub next door.
Clearly this was where the locals who they didn't want tarnishing the tourist image were penned. First thing we saw was an unconscious teenager on a bench, scrawled with swearwords in marker pen. Guy sat at the bar was sat completely unright, arms by his side, and cheeks completely sucked inwards and rotated fully on the seat to stare at us. Only had Tennant's beer, and porn on the telly. Some under developed radge asked Turkish mate for a ciggie who told him he looked 12.... Then had 5 mins of him screaming "I'm nineteen years of age.. nineeeteeeeen yearrrrrs of age" in a threatening falsetto. After he calmed down it was actually alright in there but when we told the barman from the first place we'd been there he was horrified, and surprised we hadn't been stabbed.4 -
