Last night's results mean South Africa join Australia in going through. Any sort of win for England against Bangladesh puts us through, and a win by more than India beat SA by puts us third, meaning SA instead of Australia in the semis. India need to beat SA to go through. Both England and India also go through if their games are rained off.
WI need one of England or India to lose. Rain isn't enough, due to net run rate. If both England and India were to lose, and NZ pulled off a really enormous margin of victory over Pakistan, they could in theory go through, but in reality last night's games put them out. Bangladesh are in a similar position, but would have to beat Australia as well as hammering England. Not happening.
Pakistan are now the first team officially out.
Excellent result for England; although Pakistan are the weakest team, they've had some close results even ignoring the shortened game they won, and a narrow victory would have left us still behind India on NRR. Beat Bangladesh in the last game and we're probably third, which is more or less what we might have expected coming into the tournament, albeit not by anything like the route we'd have planned for.0 -
Thanks for your analysis Swindon, more in depth than mine I have to say! A factor could be the weather. The weather that ruined the Wellington game yesterday doesn’t look like abating any time soon in which England might just have to be satisfied with one point.0

Australia beat Bangladesh overnight, so Bangladesh are out. Tonight is NZ-Pakistan, with NZ needing a very big win to be in with any chance. Then England-Bangladesh tomorrow night which should seal qualification for England and eliminate NZ unless we contrive to lose it. Even a no-result leaves us with a chance of finishing third rather than fourth, if India don't win.0

The result of the Australia/Bangladesh match was predictable although when I saw the Aussies were 40 odd for 4 I got interested.2

NZ completed a comfortable victory today v Pakistan thanks to a Susie Bates century. So it’s all eyes on the final pool games tomorrow, England v Bangladesh and South Africa v India.

England through safely enough in the end. What were we worried about? India have set SA a big target and look to be favourites to get through, but judging from the text commentary on Cricinfo it seems a very good batting wicket and people expect SA to at least get close, which would mean third for us and the only doubt is whether Australia play India or WI.0

According to Cricinfo, the NRR calculation is that India would need to restrict SA to below 174 to grab third off us. No danger of that, so from here on we just need to watch SA and work out how to beat them. If we can get to the final, we know we can give the Aussies a decent game because we've done it once already. We'd be massive underdogs, but it's not impossible.0

The India v South Africa game - just finished - was a thriller won by South Africa off the last ball, thereby eliminating India from the semi-final. India made 274 for 7 and South Africa faced the final over needing 7 to win. They lost a wicket but it came down to 3 to win off the final 2 balls. Then…. a no ball. Two from two and SA won on the final ball,of the match.1

According to Cricinfo, the India-SA game was only the second women's world cup game in history where the chasing team has won off the last ball. Not the best news for us if SA get some confidence out of a successful run chase, but now that we seem to have got our catching sorted out we really ought to be capable of winning at least the semi.0

First semi-final Australia v West Indies. On a grotty Wellington morning the match was restricted to 45 overs. WI won the toss and put them in.
They watched the Australian opening pair put on over 200 for the first wicket. Australia lost 3 wickets on their way to 305 in their 45 overs at a run rate of nearly 7 an over.
The suns shining now but not for the West Indies.

England were sent in and made 293/8 in their 50 overs anchored by a better than a run a ball 129 from opener Dani Wyatt who made the most of her let-offs. Sophia Dunkley chimed in with 60 and Sophie Ecclestone smashed 3 fours in the final over before being bowled. Good total, we’ll see if it’s enough.0

All out for 156 in the 38th over. Sophie Ecclestone’s 6/36 in 8 overs demolished the South African line-up.
On to Sunday and the Final. Bring on the Aussies!1 -
Well done the Women. Great comeback to reach the Final after losing those three early games - never been done before. More remarkable is the fact that someone who takes 6 wickets (6-36) in an ODI didn't get POM. To be fair, Wyatt, promoted to open, took her opportunity and that 129 (out of 293) took the pressure off the bowlers so, whilst Ecclestone might feel a bit hard done by it was probably the right call.
The final will be a totally different game though and we will have to go to another level to beat Australia.5 -

Aussie bowling can be got at. Their batting on the other hand is quite the puzzle to combat. England have the bowling to trouble them on a very good day. PLEASE hold your nerve, selectors, and keep Dean in the team, she has a huge role - she's the closest thing we have to the Bangladesh bowlers who are, somehow, the only ones to have troubled Australia on one of THEIR very good days (which they've had a few of, at least in the field!)1

A comprehensive win from a side that continues to improve in this tournament. Ecclestone is superb and pleased for her to get those wickets. What a talent.
Wyatt punished them for those dropped catches.
They will need to be on top form against the Aussies who in turn probably need to be a bit below par for us to win.
Likely to need the decent opening stand that has eluded us to date.

Absolutely, looking forward to the final! Sophie Eccleston is absolutely different gravy. Just worry about our top 3. Knight has had a stinker of a tournament by her standards and the openers are struggling. Wyatt batted well but gave 5 chances in her 1290
