    We'll ignore the billion pounds that was spent putting that infrastructure into place. 
    You don't need to ignore it, but they've certainly invested wisely. Great management structure in place, regenerated an entire area of Manchester, impressive academy, a network of clubs across the world and have a squad that is probably worth more than the billion pounds you mention.

    Contrast that with Man United who've spent a billion in the last decade going backwards or Everton who've spent well over 500m to almost be relegated.
    Manchester United aren't a good comparison, in the time Man City have had a billion pound investment United have paid a billion out in dividends.
    The point is valid thought, it's not like the Glaziers haven't spent money, they've spent it terribly. Of course with there revenue you can't say the Glaziers have been generous, but they'd still have been more successful had their recruitment not been woeful

    Not concerned about Derby being a promotion rival this season. The easy part is signing 20+ players in a short period of time. Hard part is actually getting them to function as a team. Last two Summer windows have been panic buying and never did us any good. Would be disappointed if we finished below Derby.

    Southampton are in negotiations to sign Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo, The Athletic understands.
    The versatile 25-year-old is believed to be keen on joining Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side and the clubs are now working to agree a fee.
    Aribo’s contract has always included a £10 million release clause and it is understood that Rangers will not accept a total package below that value.

    Would we have any kind of sell on for Aribo? Even though we went cross border and we only got a small compensation for him? Probably not I guess.
    He left at the end of his contract so our only chance of a little money was the compensation if he stayed in England.

    £10m is an absolute bargain for him given the money that gets thrown around in the premier League these days.

    Hourihane is a great signing though, the Bannan type level of quality in this league.
    All of their signings so far have been pretty run of the mill but Hourihane is a superb signing, always looked absolutely class whenever I've seen him play. I'm sure he would have had plenty of championship suitors so really surprised he's pitching up at Derby.

    Hourihane is a great signing though, the Bannan type level of quality in this league.
    Many of the best players in L1 are Championship players dropping down a division, either through relegation or transfers. The likes of Bannon, McClean, McGeady really shone at L1 level.

    In the Bowyer promotion team, many of our best players were signed by us in the Championship (Bauer, Sarr) or had played at that level previously (Pearce, Pratley). The likes of Nicky Bailey and Deon Burton for us under Parky.

    He's been at Villa for 5 years so must've been on a decent wage there. You'd expect he'll certainly be amongst the top 3-4 earners in the division for sure.

    Wout Weghorst, Burnley's replacement for Chris Wood in January has gone on a season's loan to Besiktas, It will be interesting if they are picking up all of his wages or not

    The 'total package'wording is interesting, suggests that they aren't holding out for £10m upfront.

    I've seen £6m plus add-ons mentioned elsewhere, so maybe the add-ons potentially add.up to £4m if he does well.

    On paper! On paper harry arter was a good signing. The combined age of those 3 players is 98, 101 by the end of the season. Could be risky

    Hourihane, who most people think is an excellent player is on a 2 year deal, whereas the other 2 are only on 1 year deals, so not a massive long term risk

    They're clearly not looking for resale value though, they're looking to try and immediately get out of league one. Most of their new signings are free transfers and are only on 1 year contracts.

    We've seen what players are like towards the end of their 1-year deals...

    or maybe as all the players they have signed so far are free agents they can only get over the hill out of contract players.

    Hourihane and Chester are decent signings. McGoldric has only had a couple of profilic seasons in his career. Could still see him hitting 10 goals but be surprised if it's more than that. Wouldn't have wanted him here to be honest.
