We were never going to get Cat 1 status with our present set up
Maybe I've been living under a rock but is the academy rejection public/been covered somewhere? Any link appreciated. Thanks

When you notice the emperor is naked, it is best to shout it out. It became clear to me as he walked out the team playing that crap song on his guitar at the start of last season. He doesn't understand you need goals in your team and I said as much then. If he did understand that, he may have had a better starting point. Maybe he employed too many yes men. Jacko wasn't one of those and it did for him IMO.
  • Reminds me of last season started well with Adkins and then shit , interesting that garner has done a Parker and obviously pissed off with the owner not putting his hand in his pocket .
It’s only September and I’m depressed already
  •  I think the big problem here is that a decent owner will not pander to Duchatelets ridiculous T&C's.
I'll admit that my knowledge of the deal TS did with RD is limited, but could a new owner not (at least in theory) free us of the last of the unpleasant Belgian's shackles and buy out both TS and RD for full ownership of everything?

I mean, I'm talking real angel investor at this point, but surely that's what we'd be all be looking for now? If TS will not invest for what is needed, our assets of better players (and now manager) are sold, then this limbo of not investing enough to get out of L1 continues indefinitely until the pressure on ownership becomes untenable.

We're in a better place than we were, but we need someone with more investible wealth and more accepting of consistent investment loss than TS to get us out of this. Plus, they also need to be prepared to do the things that others have said, like bring in football-experienced executive leadership.

Maybe it's a pipe dream, but there must be people out there if TS is open to it. The longer TS continues on this path, the more rebuilds/managers/players are needed.

Doesn't understand or can't/won't invest much more than he already has?
  • A new owner would be advised to try and get the rental deal Sangaard has. No guarantee old yellow tooth would accept it because he is mad as well as being a cnut. But he might. But buying the Valley when in the Premier League would not be too onerous should we get there again.

I think he knows what we need, but doesn't want to pony up the cash to do it. I think he could, but it represents more risk than he'd like to personally take on - particularly if his "main" business is struggling in the stock market.

Now? That's what we were all looking for then!

Don't think TS would be much of a problem. Duchatelet on the other hand...
His over inflated estimation of his lot was laughable when he had the football side of things dragging it down.
Now he's managed to ditch that part, God alone knows what he'd be looking for?

Well he would have to factor in the high inflation rate at the moment, so probably £70m+!!
  • @th0rryy I'm not really up on investment terminology - is an angel investor one who forks over a shedload of cash without any kind of requirement of oversight of how it's spent? Because I'm not sure how many super rich people would be willing to just bankroll the Sandgaard family's personal football fiefdom without some input on what they do with it.

If a new owner buys off TS then the lease would be part of that.  There would be no need to negotiate anything with RD if they didn't want to.

Is that 100% correct? Great if so but we would still need somebody willing to do it. The bottom line is if you want to make money out of Charlton, take them to the Premier League. If you want to lose loads keep them in League One.
  • Not sure how protests got us Duchatelet - time travel?
Well Airman. You may not recall the calls for the spivs to get out at the end of and even during the games towards the end of their time.
But I take it you agree with the fact that protests got us ESI and Sandagaard.
  • I doubt it. Roland knew he had failed and overvalued the club's assets and still does. That's what got us ESI and ESI got us Sandgaard.

I may well be using the wrong turn of phrase 😂 (so might be a bit of the blind leading the blind here!)

Ultimately, what I was trying to suggest was a richer owner (or group of owners) who would invest more than TS has in the last window. Doing a bit of a quick google to enlighten myself, I think Ipswich are benefitting from throwing money at the problem until they find a good mix. It's expensive and wasteful, but if they can afford it and they end up getting out of L1, I guess they are happy. If they have a big pot of cash, they can keep throwing pennies at it.

I don't question or challenge that TS has invested in players in the past, but I would suggest that has been a change in his investment strategy in the club as of this summer. I think his behaviour now is turning towards preparation for sale soon, as he is not investing as he did before.

I suspect Sandgaard made a small profit in the last window if you include outgoing salaries. Forgetting the Pope money.

I think that's where an increasing number of us are now, th0rryy.

Everything points in that very direction IMO.

Just hoping I still have my marbles by the time we have a multi billionaire owner who loves this club as much as I do.
  • I am at the point where I want TS to go, not only because he is out of his depth but also he doesn't deserve the petty  "guitar man" "Skntguaard"  "teflon" "David Brent"  bollocks he gets. He isn't a bad man and there is no need for this type of personal nonsense particularly when he is losing millions whilst supporters moan at ticket prices and want him to spend more, it works both ways. Go Sandgaard go, sell for  £1 and put us back in the hands of crooks that way we can all unite into moaning about a common agenda.

To be honest I think both routes are losing shed loads,  Isn't it only 6 Prem clubs make a profit? Getting to the Prem will need barrel loads of money and a lot more.Doesn't Duchatalet want £15mill for the real estate?
  • You forgot about the bullying of decent Charton people in that.
True but not sure how it relates to an owner looking to sell?
