So those who won their second games, but failed to win their third - When you combine it with the above list, the lowest we've had prior to this year, was in 2010 and 2002 with fourChris_from_Sidcup said:
Yes to be fair not many sides win 3 out of 3 at world cups, but surely a higher ratio than this year win 2 out of 2 and then ease off in the last game. For example we won our first 2 games in Russia and then changed almost the whole team v Belgium in the last game.ForeverAddickted said:
Found it a curious stat when you mentioned it, so thought I'd go have a look, slightly different though for simplicity - Since the increase to 32-teams, the following have each achieved 9-pts in the Group StagesChris_from_Sidcup said:Interesting that out of 24 teams so far, no side apart from France (and even they had issues v Denmark) has won 2 out of 2.
Only Brazil/Switzerland and Portugal can match them.
I may well be wrong as I haven't looked at any previous world cups but to me that seems a very low ratio heading into the final round.
2018: Uruguay, Croatia and Belgium
2014: Netherlands, Colombia, Argentina and Belgium
2010: Argentina and Netherlands
2006: Germany, Portugal, Brazil and Spain
2002: Spain and Brazil
1998: France and Argentina
Also interesting looking at your numbers, quite surprisingly you have to go back 20 years to Brazil for the last side who won every game.
2006 was the most, with eight teams winning their first two games.
2018: Russia, France, Mexico and England
2014: Costa Rica and France
2010: Brazil and Chile
2006: Ecuador, England, Argentina and Netherlands
2002: Mexico and Japan1998: Nigeria, Romania and Croatia
Guess it also includes the standard of the opposition the teams have come up against before failing in their last game (England four years ago against Belgium is perfect example of that) - However in 1998, one of Nigeria's wins was against Spain, likewise in 2006, Argentina and Netherlands played out a draw in their last game.0 -
Serbia were my choice to go through with Brazil so I will stick with the Serbs.0

I just heard that racist Andros Townsend forget the name of Aboubakar.
Sack the racist, I bet he wouldn't forget Harry Kane's name.
Luckily Seb Hutchinson rescued him.

Mitrovic, you're kidding me !
Unlucky with the first chance but he has to bury the 2nd chance.0 -
Had to score there.soapboxsam said:Mitrovic, you're kidding me !

Mitrovic turns back into trouble rather than slipping in the bloke though on goal... "Brilliant touch!"
Er, no.0 -
Didn't look out of reach for either defender for that 2nd0
-
3 Goals at HT in a 10am KO and If Mitrovic had his radar slightly better and we would've had 5.
More goals to come 2nd half.1 -
Not sure having the presenters and pundits standing up works well, when it's 2 short women alongside a tall bloke!0

He just queried another Cameroon player's name. He wasn't sure if it was the player or not.Covered End said:I just heard that racist Andros Townsend forget the name of Aboubakar.

Who recalls the oh so proper Gary Lineker referring back in time to the Cameroon team as the Macaroons ? .. we must forgive him as he was speaking in a much less sensitive time

What a good goal. Calmness personified!
Had the old Yugoslavia not been broken up, it does make one feel that they would have a rather good side. Getting into their midfield for a start would be an achievement in itself!1 -
Better radar and Mitrovic finishes a great team move.0

What a finish!0

Not one of the usual 10am snorefests!0

Not sure he would have been so calm finishing that, if he had realised he was onside
