None of the people who actually took over the club before Sandgaard - Jimenez/Slater, Duchatelet or ESI - were trailed well in advance, whatever their individual merits or lack of them. In short, it’s more usual than not for such people to want to remain anonymous and you can’t assume Brighton involves them sitting in a row in the directors’ box.
I don’t know who Peter is currently dealing with or how realistic it might be. I don’t think there is an “oven ready deal” to coin a phrase but neither can you assume that RD won’t deal with someone because PV is involved - after all, he was involved with Sandgaard.14 -

That’s interesting but I’m assuming that such interest would only be very early and tentative? Based upon PV’s call to arms we’re past that stage. 1) the interested party is going to the Brighton game but wasn’t going to the Cheltenham game.Shouldn’t really need anymore than that simple, black and white and unchallengable possible explanation, but for good measure , some other reasons
2) Cheltenham town would never bring more than 300 odd fans. Therefore to get the same fullish crowd in the stadium, you’d be asking 3,4,5k extra Charlton fans to turn up than you are for the Brighton game. Appreciate many already have tickets for Cheltenham and not Brighton but at £5-£15 and given the paltry crowds at home league games anyway atm I don’t think that necessarily undermines that (eg we had what 3k home fans V Stockport Vs probably 6k V Cheltenham, a net difference immediately wiped out by Brighton fans).
3) Brighton game with a big away showing would undoubtedly have better chance of creating a good atmosphere with a full+ away end. The atmosphere and experience at the valley can feel like a big/ even premier league game when that is the case even in modest league one crowds, eg against the likes of pompey, Sunderland etc in recent years. In contrast a fairly big home crowd can still feel like a non league fixture when played in front of a pitiful away turnout. Not reflective of the ‘potential experience’ you’d be aiming for or buying into.
4) most likely a mauling, sure, but a likelihood of a better game of football against a Premier League side than the non-league huff and puff of the bottom half of league one. Obviously we’re terrible but have already managed to put in respectable performances against QPR and Norwich this calendar year.
Just turn up.

PWR the last 20 odd pages, but if a potential buyer needs any convincing then they should look at the crowd for Donny and the number we took to Wembley in the not too distant past for clarification on fan "potential". Not a mid-week game in the 2nd cup comp against unglamorous (but premier league) oppo just before Xmas. And if PV is involved I'm sure he could provide them with this info tbf.1

PV met Sandgaard at Wayne Mumford’s instigation and helped him take his interest forward, for example placing the story in the SLP in order to get RD’s attention. I’ve missed about 15 pages of this thread but my thoughts are: Varney has met someone through business who mentioned they’d like to own a football club. Obviously, Varney has tried to push Charlton as an option. This person has probably never heard of Charlton and isn’t sure about the prospect. Varney has therefore invited them to the Brighton game knowing it’s the best chance we have of showing this individual or group that The Valley can be an exciting place and may be worth investing in. In this scenario I don’t think a deal has even been thought about, I think there’s just a potentially interested person and Varney is trying to spark a bit of enthusiasm in them to pursue us as an option. It’s nothing to do with a 20k crowd convincing someone to put a bid on the table, we’re nowhere that far along in the process.Of course I’m saying this with absolutely no knowledge of the situation but I am definitely not getting my hopes up for whoever is at the game being remotely close to taking us over yet.0
