Best centre back by some distance leaving and people still think we're in for a good season next year.

We have no money. For the likes of Wrexham to be able to sign our better players shows the level we're working at.
Best centre back until Ness got the shirt - and his competition was Lavelle and Inniss who he is marginally quicker than - not saying Hector is a good signing but think we're exaggerating how good O'Connell actually is.
O'Connell is the ball playing CB signed to play Garnerball.

His distribution is generally very decent but he is not the quickest.
Just maybe, just guessing ...... but maybe Holden doesn't see EOC as a good fit for the gameplan he wants the team to play?

Signing Michael Hector till the end of the season and selling O’Connell (who’s already signed up till 2025) is very bad business.
I don't think we will know if it's good or bad business until the 1st of September next year TBH.  Hector in and Thomas and Lavelle out would make sense.

EOC is a head stracher though.  Maybe he hasn't settled off the field?  I doubt he is on massive wages.  On the face of it it seems strange to say the least.

Perhaps not if you're Thomas Sandgaard lowering costs.

Looks like a fire sale. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Dobson or Leaburn sold if any half decent offer comes in
Massively OTT. To date we haven’t lost anyone even vaguely important

They're not offering silly money for EOC. Our Owners can't resist any £££. There's a distinct difference between the two!

I think you have hit the nail firmly on the head Oggy. If as you say O'Connell doesn't fit your game plan but is still part of the squad, so be it. but bugger me Wrexham give you a call and offer you money for a squad player who the club picked up for nothing, what you gonna do ?

Why .. if Hector signs 3 year deal in the summer it good business we had a look at him first

Losing EOC is really not the end of the world. He's hardly played despite being fit again for a month. We'll sign another centre back who may or may not be as good and the cycle will continue

This is surely all part of a bigger plan for the summer and if that’s the case I’m all for it.

The squad we have are now where good enough so if we can get rid and of the wage bill no complaints from me.

Loans and short term contracts for much better players with some injury issues concerns gives us time to have a look at them and see if they earn a longer term deal.

If there is not a bigger plan then it would be worrying but I can’t see it.

Penney played at CB on Saturday when Holden switched up tactics. Hector isn’t match fit, ludicrous to let EOC go for any other reason than to cash in. He’s also head and shoulders above Innis

Is Gallen still at the Club? After last summer’s deals?

A fire sale is when you sell all your belongings you don’t want to lose. Save for EOC, that is none of the people who we are losing. It’s full of people we’ve been crying out to get rid of.

Is this the Holden who is only contracted to the end of the season ? 🙂

We've got rid of two CMs (neither of which were playing), the third choice goal keeper and a striker well past his best. Maybe Kirk goes too but again he's barely kicked a ball for us this season.

Even if O'Connell does go that's not remotely a fire sale. Every single one of those (bar E O'C) are players we'd need to get rid of in the summer if they'd stayed.

Absolute bloody hand-wringing melts the majority on here nowadays, you'd think we just announced we're selling Leaburn to Hackney Marshes for a fiver and a frisbee
Are you on crack? We have been playing Ryan Inniss (who is a complete liability) and a youngster who has luckily broken through at the right time… outside of that we have no one. If either of them get injured, highly likely given past experience, we are stuffed

They're offering Charlton the chance of not paying him wages till 2025.

O'Connell leaving rather than Inniss/Lavelle is absolutely laughable.
Everyone slags all three of them off. But now he’s leaving, O’Connell is a world beater. Truth is, we’re not going up, we’re not going down, O’Connell maybe wants to leave or is the biggest earner out of the three of them. This season, yet again, is a write off with another summer rebuild on the cards.

THIS. The lovely mix of short term cost cutting that definitely won't come back to bite us!

    Absolute madness.

I dont quite understand the need for a Ball playing defender in VNL quite frankly, Lavelle would be far better for the level imo.
They probably won't be in it next season. If they've got the money and we're willing to sell it's a no brainer to go after O'Connell imo.

The recent ‘leaked wages’ had O’Connell on peanuts. Perhaps he wants off?
  • Maybe O'Connell is one of the higher earners so the trimming continues.
  • I don't think much of Gwion Edwards' stats. One goal and two assists in the previous League One campaign.

Suddenly o Connell is a world beater. Personally don't think he's anything special. Wages and fee will be decent, not sure Holden rates him.
