Day goes to Australia imo, but not by a huge margin. Fortune favours the brave so I don't mind Stokes trying something different, although it's not what I would've done.
    Day gifted to Australia (arguably).

mental declaration, should've batted them out of sight and really put the pressure on

Going to look a pretty stupid declaration when they are 350-3 this time tomorrow

The only possible reason for that declaration, is that England's best chance of a win is at Edgbaston batting first.
So we need to take a chance with some rain forecast (not much) in the last 3 days.

Even if we lose one whole day to rain, we have, potentially, gifted runs and time to the Aussies and it is still more than possible for them to win the match in the three other days. As it is, of course, possible for us to.

If I was the England captain, which I am definitely not. I'd have kept on and aimed for 450 and given our bowlers a full day off. Thing is the style of cricket Brenda McCullum is pushing is about getting a result. Given the test is at Edgbaston, the pitch isn't going to get flatter as the days go on I think we are just shading it but there's a bees dick in it

Declaring was a bit lastminute.com decision. No one was expecting it. Especially me. I was off up the steps thinking it was the end of play only to be hauled back in to the madness of the Hollies stand!
But this is Baz ball I suppose. He is tearing up the text books. TBF I doubt Warner and Khawaja were expecting it either. Long, extremely hot day in the field. When you think about it, it did make a bit of sense. Didn't really pan out as they thought in the end though. Hey ho.
So anyway, big shout out to Nathan Lyon. I doubt you heard everything on the TV that was directed his way for pretty much the whole day!
Fella Took it on the chin and got some wickets. I'm never one for giving it both barrels to those that can hurt you (think Mills, Defoe...) It always tends to fly back in your face

I think it was a genius decision to declare tbh. Australia always like to fuck with our heads and we just threw it back to them. Basically threw down the gauntlet. We just said "ok go score 500" if they don't then we have them on the rack.

This is a confident team and I'm in.

And all because Root wanted to improve his batting average with a not out.

Those photos he has of Stokes must be really incriminating....😄

Lyon doesn't get his five for. Bet he is going crazy in his hotel room right now.

I love this new England fucking with the aussies 😂

I know this is the England thread but I don't really know where else this belongs - absolutely sensational catch from Brad Currie for Sussex last night in The Blast.

And they won by... 6 runs.

    Literally a match winning catch.

England women and England A women have Gone Bazball on the Aussies in their warmups to rather riotous effect. England women taking apart Australia A is one thing. But the other game...

Tbh perfect conditions for broad - forced to pitch it up as anything slightly short sits up beautifully to be pulled. Does my nut in when he bowls slightly too short.

Under McCullum both Broad and Jimmy have been pitching it up more, as they're less worried about conceding runs, and more focused on taking wickets.
