Cornette's treatment of Kevin Owens (then Steen) and Sami Zayn during his ROH tenure points to how worthless Cornette's opinion is after the year 2010.
Being so anti-Young Bucks/Omega/Steen/Zayn/Ospreay/Richochet, whilst they were by far the highest draws on the indies at the time. Cornette longs for a version of wrestling that no longer exists and the fans don't care about anymore.1 -

No doubt that he is absolutely hilarious when he’s got a bee in his bonnet about something. It’s just frustrating that he seemingly actively chooses to lean towards the negative every time. Many other podcasts out there are more than capable of applying nuance in discussing what is great about AEW, and what is not so great. Also, is there any particular reason his hatred is so heavily leveraged towards Kenny Omega? Is there some sort of personal thing there?
I get that Omega isn’t the sort of wrestler that would be on a Cornette dream card for obvious reasons, but there are far bigger offenders of the over the top style that he hates.
The amount of big WWE names who did stupid stuff in PWG is surprising. Jim seems to give them a free pass though.
I think his beef with Omega is part of his gimmick now, which he does well out of financially. His fanbase, who literally are a cult, would turn on him if he admitted he was wrong about it.1 -

It's there unwillingness to listen and them not thinking they can not learn anything from people that have done it before them.
Omega walked out of a, I think it was Harley Race but I might have been someone else, training camp because they put him in a class that he felt beneath him. The bucks wouldn't let Benjamin and Hass lay out a match because they had to get "their shit in". Page has publicly said he doesn't take advice because he doesn't need to. Jungle Boy won't let Billy Gunn agent his matches because he knows better.
He does say complimentary stuff about almost everyone, if it's deserved. Even Omega.
If you listen to more than the hyperbole, I know it's hard, but he actually, often, not only calls it stupid, but explains why its stupid and offers what would have been better. You don't have to agree with it but that's the insight. He re did a match, I want to say between Lashley and Omos, from TV that was awful but walked through how he would have agented the same match, in the same time, with the same outcome. That was brilliantly insightful.

Dark Side was decent, Magnum's Ex Wife won't be appearing on mastermind anytime soon.0 -
I wasn't really aware of the Magnum TA story, so I enjoyed Dark Side Of The Ring this week. Found it very interesting0

Magnum is pretty close to a Duncan Edwards of wrestling. His attitude to life post accident is incredible.1 - Sponsored links:

Omega and Osprey were having a superb match until they started kicking out of finishers to the point of ridiculousness and ruined the whole thing and the matches that followed it. That kind of nonsense is killing the business and one of the worst matches I've ever seen. Dave will give it 7.75 stars and the Punk match 1.5!
Danielson V Okada was good but feels like a set up for a rematch with an odd finish.1 -

I enjoyed Omega v Ospreay more than I thought I would, it was a 5* classic compared to the Elite BCC bullshit, for the second PPV in a row.
It's a shame we won't ever see Punk v Omega because if someone actually set the match out and Kenny's ego let him follow it it would not only get 7* from uncle dave but "normal" people would like it as well.
I was quite surprised with how bad some of the Japanese talent was tbh.0 -
The Japanese wrestlers are like wrestling in the late 80's and 90's, where you can believe a moonsault or a huge lariat will finish people off. The problem with modern wrestling is the necessity to spam finishers in big matches. I'd rather see someone wriggle out of a GTS attempt 3 times and Punk finally nail one to finish a match, than see someone hit with it 4 times in a match. Once every couple of years there will be a point where someone kicks out of it, or they do a "Super GTS" from the second rope or whatever, but that should be the huge occasion matches.
Hit them with 15 V-triggers and a million snap germans, sure, but only 1 One Winged Angel, keep the finishers as true finishers IMO3 -
I meant Okada tapping clean in the middle of the ring was odd.
Omega is a great wrestler, his selling was superb and he's a decent promo in two languages. But the ego ruined the match completely. Some of the kick outs were utterly ridiculous. He had a great match with Danielson who I assume prevented any nonsense.
Got a feeling Punk will turn heel now! Something AEW aren't short on.0 -
Punk is a natural heel anyway.
Jungle Boy Jack Perry is a natural babyface, so I'm interested to see where that goes, maybe an alliance back with Christian and Luchasaurus down the line, but for now he needs a decent singles program, starting with beating HOOK I feel.
When will they beat Orange Cassidy? He's been on the run of his life but they can't run the scrappy underdog overcomes everyone story forever1 -
Anyone at Smackdown and Money in the Bank this weekend?0

So shows they will be the hottest faces, some they will be the biggest heels. No surprise that Punk was cheered in Chicago and booed by the most Elite mark crowd they will have all year.
I am not sure Tony is smart enough to book it because unless it's someone that is mega established as a heel/face you risk your faces getting heat and your heels getting cheered. One thing is certain he won't have any dead crowds.0 -

Hope they bin off this Forbidden Door stuff in years to come.
I just don’t care for the Japanese talent they bring in and throw into matches without any real build. However good the likes of Okada or Tanahashi supposedly are, unless I’m a NJPW fan then why should I care in the slightest? If you’re a wrestling fan whose main interests over the years have been WWE, WCW, AEW etc, then the random Japanese names coming in just seem quite dull in comparison. Their in ring work might be sublime to those with a trained wrestling eye, but that can only carry so much weight in an industry where interest is built around personalities. The commentary will try and force excitement about these names, but many people will have no interest.
I liked Omega and Ospreay, even if it did start to veer towards ridiculousness towards the end. They did a good job of making it feel like a blood feud. But again, it’s not served well enough if that story is hardly being told on AEW television.1 -
