I think that's Punk done wrestling. I can probably say I've seen his last match live, which is quite something

Oh yes because Brett and Shawn in 96/97 is the manual of how to run a wrestling promotion.

If that had happened at almost any other time in history Vince would have fired Shawn.  He didn't because he knew he would turn up on nitro the next week.

This is what happens when you have a mark in charge and he puts very marmite "workers" positions of power. 

It won't be the last time something like this happens.

Sunny days is probably a bad example as the more I think of it the more Punk's moaning reminds me of Bret! Him leaving/being forced out didn't harm WWF.

There are better examples of something being said in a promo leading to a scuffing happening back stage and feels being resolved quickly. Scott Steiner said something about Kimberly in a promo that was OTT. No comments made in public band mouthing the company.cafctom said:

This week alone he pulled off a ridiculously profitable, historic show - only 4 years after setting up the company. He also manages a successful Premier League club and an NFL franchise. He’s likely forgotten more about business than many people will ever learn in their lifetimes.

No other ‘mark’ wrestling promotor outside of WWE has achieved what he has in decades, whether the whiny Cornette lot want to admit it or not. 

There’s clearly been mistakes in the management side that have reared their head from time to time - can’t deny that. 

But although many will try and deny it, this ‘drama’ is the sort of thing that wrestling fans love. We can pretend we don’t, but we do. 

Vince might do it differently - well good for him, but Vince’s product is painfully sterile 90% of the time because there’s zero chance of anything blurring the lines whatsoever. I far prefer the AEW alternative in that sense. 

As far as CM Punk goes….well, it’s always everybody’s fault besides his own isn’t it? It’s the younger wrestlers, it’s the “mark” fans, it’s the booking, it’s everything else.

Bullshit follows him around, across multiple companies, and CM Punk is the common denominator each time. Again - it’s that drama as to why many, myself included, hang on to everything he has to say. He wouldn’t have the same allure that he does without it.

If this is it with him and AEW then it’s a shame. I enjoy watching him, and his run has been a lot of fun to follow since he returned - for the wrestling and for the drama. It’s a duller industry without him. 

You can't praise AEW for a profitable show then criticise WWE for being stale! Clash At The Castle would have been more profitable and i've heard (doesn't sound right to me) that Summerslam '92 har higher merch sales than All In before inflation is taken into account.

Yeah, we like the drama/dirt but we also like seeing car crashes and they're not good either. You may prefer AEW but you're in a minority. They've now lost Cody and Punk, things aren't managed well and as a fan I expect it's due to a lack of delegation from Tony. Why didn't he tell Jungle Boy no to the spot? Do the boys have no respect for what he says? Hard to respect him when he sat quietly next to Punk whilst he buried the company.

Your spot on with Punk. I'm very interested in what happens with Jungle Boy, surely he needs to go to.

Why can’t I praise AEW’s achievements and call WWE a stale product? Whether I’m in a minority or not, that doesn’t matter. WWE would still prefer to have every wrestling fan’s full attention.

The WWE is a significantly better product than it was pre-pandemic.  Even Meltzer, backhanded, gave that as a reason AEW isn't growing as much as it could have done.

You will always have, and always will have, people in the WWE that aren't happy with their creative, or their "push" because not everyone can main event Wrestlemania.

There have been loads of instances of AEW shooting themselves in the foot and some of that is purely down to weak leadership and making some of "the boys" EVPs. 

Can someone find me an example where that's been a massive success, in say the last 50 years?  It was in JCP with Dusty for a while but that blew up to such an extent he was soon dancing in poker dots on the other channel.

It really wouldn't suprise me if, because of the success of AEW despite the problems, someone else gets a TV deal for another new promotion.  A high tide raises all ships and all of that.

Tell you what AEW should do at All Out.

Good for WWE! I’m genuinely pleased for them. I want wrestling companies to do well. Both are doing well. I just happen to prefer one to the other.

It wasn’t long ago you were criticising WWE for Drew Macintyre wanting to leave, whilst also being certain FTR were also leaving AEW. Neither happened. And it’s well documented how frustrated WWE talent become with the creative there, so I don’t think we can assume it’s always harmonious. They’ve lost good names themselves.

Maybe the AEW locker room will be far more harmonious without CM Punk. Tony Khan has got rid of him. That’s what you wanted right? I suspect it’s the right decision, but just a real shame it has come to that.

Prefer one but be subjective, WWE is stale but let's see what multiple man nonsense BCC get up to this week!

Can't see anyone wanting to leave WWE anytime soon and it seems I was spot on with the Bloodline storyline needing to end soon. Money In The Bank was probably the latest possible time. The uso split isn't particularly interesting.

Won't be surprised if FTR make an exit soon as they're 'team Punk'. Like Keith Lee they will get used poorly whenever they go IMO. All promotions will always have wrestlers complaining about their push, it's not the same as the owner fearing for his life. I can't wait for that footage as it doesn't sound right to me.

What good names have WWE lost recently? Regal is another for the AEW list.

Daniel Bryan
The Revival/FTR
Adam Cole

Those are 6 names that all have main event opportunity (and a ton of money) in WWE if they stay, as the company wanted them to. All of which decided they had enough because there was a better alternative. None of them have showed signs that they want to go back either.

Regal was released by WWE originally. He didn’t want to leave in the first place. The above names all walked away. 

It could be argued that AEW wouldn’t even exist had the WWE managed to keep their product interesting and innovative during the 2010s. It was their inability to evolve the product which led the way to fans craving an alternative. That’s why NXT gained so much traction, but in typical WWE fashion - they didn’t take full advantage of it.

I'll give you Sasha and Naomi, although they haven't wrestled in AEW. The rest left over 2 years ago, back when Cody was still an EVP.

I think Khan would have made a promotion regardless.

Ambrose/Moxley, Jericho and FTR have all resigned with AEW during that time though when I’m sure WWE would have happily welcomed them back with open arms.
