The bloke was a fan who done quite a bit for charity and who took his own life relatively publicly. Personally can't see how people clapping in his memory would trigger anyone. It's not compulsory to join in and it's not like it's being arranged officially by the Club.
Probably because he is a confessed villain ?

If Kenneth Noye was Charlton would we want the crowd to applaud him ?

Think he was a self confessed reformed villain and wasn't a convicted double killer.
  • As far as l know Kenny Noye is a Charlton fan.
  • I know Dave went to Charlton but I thought Charlton wasn’t his team , just he had mates who supported us , is  that correct .

ME14 seems a easy target. I tend to disagree with almost everything she's ever posted, but I'm not sure why she's getting grief over this topic of which she's pretty much bang on.
Because it’s disrespectful to someone who’s just died. That’s basically it.

Why would pointing out that releasing 1,000 plastic balloons would be environmentally damaging be disrespectful to someone who died? I don't get it.

Whilst I didn't know the bloke I also doubt a self confessed gangster would give two hoots whether someone on a forum questioned a balloon release, people on this forum get more offended than he likely would have.

Fair play to ME14 for mentioning it, the environment was the first thing I thought of when I heard of it too and I have been surprised that it is not the majority reaction nowadays to such ideas.

I thought that too, but there were pictures of his house in the papers the other day and he has a pool table with the Charlton badge brinted on the felt, in his front room.

    .
  • Think that video would genuinely bring me a bit of comfort if I was a friend of his, which feels a strange thing to say.

He lost a bet with a Charlton mate, so got the badge on his pool table

This is an RIP thread which people have a choice to comment on as a mark of respect that is their choice whether too or not. No need to derail it into any other subjects. That’s isn’t meant as digging out anyone

    Spot on.

It's sad that someone's life has ended, so no need to derail a sombre thread.

    RIP.

Does it really matter. If you wish to applaud then you have the right to do so, or you can just sit there. The whole argument about ballon’s is laughable. Shouldn’t be an issue to kick around.

    Typical Charlton Life thread.

On an RIP thread it’s a distraction but it’s not something not worth discussing. Would I want or allow a ballon release should I pop my clogs ? Absolutely not for the reasons ME14 has posted. I’m sure that it will soon be illegal for those reasons and rightly so. In their grief I doubt Mr. Courtney’s family have given it any thought and why should they. It’s for society to steer away from such celebrations.

Celebrated someone’s passing a few months ago with a balloon release, which was quite emotional and felt very fitting.

Must be honest, no environment impact and animals etc crossed my mind for a second. People do these things with only with good intentions in mind
Hopefully now that a few more people have been educated about the harms this can do, they will find a better way of remembering a life.
When I depart this earth I want my ashes to be fired into space in a large firework and be scattered to the four winds. Don’t really care about any environmental impact.
Your ashes are going straight in the sea mate. The kids have already drawn lots as to who is going to throw the urn....
I heard that his ashes were to be scattered at The Valley. An afterlife in Purgatory.

As for Dave Courtney,  I don't recall meeting him, but I hope that he is able to RIP.

I know people who have lost family members to suicide and they never get over it. After watching the moving video, I would think this is would have helped his friends and family come to terms with their loss.

I can understand not wanting to live a life in constant pain with limited mobility. Its a choice I believe we should all have with the correct support to decide and help.
