I do admire his longevity, his ability to keep getting  jobs and his managerial career somewhat but he is such a smug bastard.
  • Grimsby Town have appointed former Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell as their head coach on a deal until the end of the 2025-26 season.

"We've spoken before about playing attractive football in the 'Grimsby way', and we believe that we have secured a head coach who can work to produce that for our fans."

As they're 21st in L2, survival might be more important at the moment!
  • Cambridge United have sacked head coach Mark Bonner following Tuesday's 3-0 home defeat by Lincoln City.

New manager bounce v us then.
  • Wow. Ridiculous decision, after all he's achieved there, getting them promoted L1 and keeping them up last season
  • Alexa... Why don't Managers show more loyalty towards clubs, rather than jumping upwards at the first opportunity.

"See... Liam Manning, and Mark Bonner"

Imagine Bonner will either go on to better things than Cambridge, or he'll be like Michael Flynn when he left Newport

He signed a new 3 year contract on 14th Sept this year.

  • Max Rushdon writes an excellent account re Mark Bonnor in the Guardian. Apparently he was a Cambridge Utd season ticket holder as a kid!

Who . Bonner or Rushdon ?

Bonner leaving Cambridge just feels weird. Will be interesting to see what direction they go in because he seemed to have a real connection with the fans and the club.

I wonder if he was someone we approached before Appleton?

Both i think. Bonner definitely and i'm sure Rushden is also a Cambridge fan.

Ligue 1 strugglers Lyon have sacked Italian manager Fabio Grosso after just seven games in charge.
Grosso, 46, leaves seven-time French champions Lyon bottom of the table after overseeing only one victory in his seven Ligue 1 matches.
His dismissal comes less than 11 weeks after he replaced the sacked Laurent Blanc in September.
  • Lyon are part of some weird multi club network with Palace, Molenbeek in Belgium and Botofogo. Was an interesting long read on The Athletic about the situation at Lyon and there's genuine fears they will be relegated to Ligue 2.

All seems a long way from the side of the 00s with Juninho , Coupet and Benzema.
  • In regards to Bonner, it seems a lot of their fans don't mind he's gone if you go by social media.

Suppose they've had a few real shocking results. Since he signed the new contract last ten games, 1 win in the league, 3 draws, 6 losses. Smashed by Peterborough 5 nil probably done him no favours.

A club like Cambridge though I am not sure what they can expect in league 1, don't imagine their budget is too high and he probably would have managed to keep them up.

    Bit of a gamble
  • Bristol Rovers have appointed former Rotherham and Exeter boss Matt Taylor as their new manager on a three-and-half year deal.

Sounds like Chris Wilder is going to go back to Sheff Utd to replace Heckingbottom.

Seems a weird one to go back to a manager they decided wasn't good enough for the PL, and who failed at his next two jobs, but there we are.

One eye on the Championship next season I guess and he got the club promoted twice before.

surprised they haven't begged Warnock to go back
  • Whether it's right or not, not a surprise that the dismal defeat against a relegation rival proved terminal for Heckingbottom.
  • Michael Duff sacked by Swansea.

Thought he did well at Barnsley and very well at Cheltenham.

Seemed to create well drilled and effective teams.
  • A slightly surprising appointment, as Swansea have previously been a possession and passing team, which wasn't so much his style at Cheltenham and Barnsley.
  • Mowbray out on his ear at Sunderland

    Wow. Carnage today
  • The Championship is such a fucking stupid league. Wish we were in it, obv, but it's so dumb

Certainly is. That's 10 changes so far this season in the Championship and 25 all told in the last 12 months:

    Birmingham - 1
    Blackpool - 2
    Bristol City - 1
    Cardiff - 2
    Huddersfield - 2
    Leeds - 1
    Leicester - 1
    Millwall - 1
    Norwich - 1
    QPR - 2
    Reading - 1
    Rotherham - 1
    Sheffield Wednesday - 2
    Southampton - 1
    Sunderland - 1
    Swansea - 2
    Watford - 2
    Wigan - 1

The only clubs that have been in the Championship since last December and that still have the same Manager in situ are:

    Blackburn
    Coventry
    Hull
    Middlesbrough
    Preston
    Stoke
    WBA
  • On the other hand the Premier League getting into December before the first sacking is very rare.

There were 5 managers gone by the November international break last season.
