Filling in for @LoOkOuT today, as he's off on his travels.
Christmas is a time for hangovers and being absolutely stuffed, and I went into the game hoping that would only apply to the fans in the stands and not the players on the pitch. The first half was generally scrappy with a couple of good chances in quick succession from Chem Campbell and Fraser around the 20 minute mark, a fairly tenuous penalty shout, and a couple of scares in our area. There were a few delays due to Edun having to go off with a bloodied shirt, and Chem Campbell getting Pratleyed.
Second half, Orient started more brightly and had some good chances from corners and free kicks. Our play was quite well stifled by Orient, occasionally at the expense of a booking. The ref wasn't especially impressive either, possibly peaking with looking like he indicated a free kick to Orient on the half way line, then penalising the Orient player for kicking the ball away when he tried to take it quickly. Orient scored after we could have done better clearing the ball, and we only really had a couple of chances. One was where the keeper saved from CBT, and one where May flashed the ball wide of the post from a free kick that Kanu won on the left hand edge of the area.Towards the end Dobbo got booked for complaining to the ref after he didn't get a penalty for getting his shirt pulled in the 6 yard box
Final score: Orient 1 - Charlton 0 - not absolutely stuffed, but definitely a hangover style performance

The owners must now be thinking, 'We should have bought the Jimmy Saville Appreciation Society.'

I don't think the current ownership is capable of hiring a good manager or recruiting a competent squad, you can give them as many transfer windows as you like.21
-
Lisbie : Appleton can't go in the dressing room and give them a rocket, as he's got to pick the same team on Friday.6
-
I know they’re not his players but Appleton is one of the most uninspiring managers we have ever had, I wouldn’t even trust him with a transfer window.39
-
Lisbie: He can't hold the team accountable!

It was already on life support, but that shower of shite has definitely finished the season off. Needed 4 wins over Christmas to stay in any kind of playoff picture and that’s already impossible. Always looked a tough ask with so many injuries but the lack of commitment and energy shown in these last two matches is just not acceptable.Only thing left to play for is to not allow this to get out of control and get dragged into any kind of relegation scrap.
I’ve always said managers really earn their stripes when a team is losing and out of form/confidence. It was what made Curbs so good, he could turn slide around and did it multiple times. I don’t have huge faith, but time now for Appleton to show he deserves his job and he can’t just hide behind needing signings because he’s made significant bad calls himself recently and our team organization has not improved at all.
Brownie talking a lot of sense post match about standards not being high enough and a lack of accountability for poor performances. There should probably be 6 or 7 changes for the next match, but Appleton probably doesn’t have the players available to do that at the moment.8 -

I have actually not watched any of the current manager's interviews, it is nothing personal, I just think whoever it is will be relieved of his job about a year after taking over. 2023 has been abject for the club.1

Aribo scores for Saints, I know, who cares
Doughty scores for Luton🤗2 -
The writing was on the wall against Cheltenham. A run of "easier" games coming up and a chance for a statement win, and we were crap and literally fell over the line. It's been tripe since then. The levels of application, concentration and effort have fallen off a cliff. Season is over. Thank you Mr. Appleton & Andy Scott, but most of all to the players, who can't even be bothered to compete and do the basics.17

We needed to WIN today, but cocked it up AGAIN, season is now over unless miracles are performed January 🤔… yes I know…0

Brownie is very upset in the studio. Depressing.
“You either need bucket loads of money or bucket loads of time [to fix this team]”10 -
Only positive was the crowd fully turned on them at the end, both players and Appleton.
I genuinely hate every single one of them.34 -
Need to build a team for next season. Bring in players for next season. Bring in a new manager first though. Apples is clueless.2

Bag. Of. Shit.1

A disgracefully clueless, spineless and tactically inept performance. Quite why Appleton thought it would be a good idea to go long ball with our personnel and their big central defenders defies all reason. The man looks to have run out of ideas and he totally failed to get a reaction out of the side in the second half, unlike his opposite number.
The outing to Gillingham was dire but at least they played some football against us. This lot didn’t need to - they had a couple of players in Beckles and Pratley with the football intelligence and nous that we lacked and knew that our defensive ineptitude would give them a chance.
Desperate times.

Get Appleton out NOW.
We are only going one way. The man has no clue. Playing players out of position with no idea of how to change things.15 -
There was a point last season where I began to absolutely resent Charlton after every game I attended or stream purchased... it all made me feel utterly miserable.
Fast forward to having attended two consecutive home games we threw away in injury time and now the dross on show today and I feel pretty much nothing. Took me a while to get there but I'm completely numb to it all7 - Sponsored links:

Andy ( I'm full of shit ) Scott has created a bit of a problem for himself.
He has appointed Appleton as manager.
A manager that decides to play Kanu on the wing.
Before that May on the wing.
Before that Leaburn on the wing.
Appleton hasn't got the best group of players to work with but he appears Clueless most of the time.
Now with a transfer window about to open he has little choice but to support him as best he can.
If we continue to struggle then it is going to be problematic come the summer.
Does Scott then decide to sack Appleton or do our new owners get rid of both Appleton and Scott and start again.
We are a joke as things.19 -
Judging by what I have seen before now and what I've read today, I can't help but think we need two things to have a crack at promotion.
1. A new manager that is both experienced and proven.
2. 5-7 seasoned players in the mold of Alfie May Hungry, excel in their natural position and willing to work.
This is gonna cost at least £3-5 million to get players and a manager that are worth it.
Hopefully our US Based billionaires can find it in them to commit like Wrexham did to getting a job done, being aware of the cost to them this season, but that it may take until end of next season to make it.
So I guess the new game is who is the right manager and who are the players that will make us promotion worthy?

Not blaming the youngsters because some so called experienced players are massively underperforming but I’m not sure any of these players are of the required standard to play League One football. Maybe they will in future but it’s not helping us and it shows how weak the squad is. I’m really not convinced we’ll be seeing an influx of quality players and Appleton is the most boring, nothing manager we could have employed. Desperate times right now. Interest is falling off a cliff.3

Any reason why we cant look into just keeping the Match thread as the Post Match thread? Just lost a Grapevine sized post on there because it was closed halfway though typing it.

Somehow that was even worse than the Burton game.
Once again, pathetic performances in November-December against opposition we should be beating every time on paper has reduced the season to another pointless tedious formality, and there’s still 5 months left.

I walked 10 yards from house to car, my brother drove whilst I snoozed and looked at my phone, we parked a full 1 minute walk from the stadium. I walked a minute back to the car. I will walk 10 yards back to my house.
I have put more effort into my day than all our players did in that game. Combined. Shite. No more words.26 -
For a manager that’s “good on the grass” I’d love to know what we do all week to play like this over the last few games.Wrong choice of manager. Anyone who starts the same 11 as that shit performance we put in last week clearly hasn’t got a clue.Feels crazy say sack him but I wouldn’t trust him with a transfer window.Half of these players needs to go, and that includes CBT. January isn’t going to be enough time to sort this mess out.15
