2. May played up front today and was, again, ineffective there.
There is no big man available for Alfie to play off whether he’s in a two up top or playing the 10 in behind. That’s the biggest problem with Alfie right now.0 -

I would be in favour of putting Alfie back in that role if we can get another striker in that fits that mold.5 -

This Board do not mean business, if they truly did then they'd tackle the monkey in Belgium and get him off our backs.
This lot are complete chancers looking for a quick return on their 50p investments.
We are in a death spiral and throwing ducks and pigs on the pitch will not bring about changes...
I cannot see anyway we will challenge for promotion in the next 10 years... Relegation is more likely in that time if we're not careful.
Having read most of the comments today including listening to Brownie and Lisbie I actually think we've all reached our breaking point and are prepared to say enough is enough. The season is over, that's not dramatic... Its a fact.
We are being fooled at the prospects of better players arriving but have you ever known a season where so many loaness could go home after half a season? That speaks volumes, so I'm definitely not expecting any golden signings.

It was painful. From start to finish appalling, only May and Dobson looked remotely interested, rest of them wholly ambivalent. The tactical masterstroke of bringing Assiimwe on for Edun summed it up, we were playing damage limitation at Leyton Orient ffs. Scott says we're going to splash the cash, so will that be investment or proceeds from a sale? It looks more and more likely that we'll be paying off yet another manager (although in this case organising a whip round should be easy enough) which begs the question how much money have we spent paying off managers in the last couple of years or so alone which in turn puts a dent in the footballing budget. A lot of people lost interest during lockdown and found something else to do on a Saturday afternoon, now a whole new malaise is sweeping across our club that is driving people away - the simple fact that we are being served up total dross that don't care about Charlton at all levels.13

Any player with a bad enough attitude to behave like that would be rightfully dropped and you’d hope everyone would back the manager in decisions like that. Marcus Maddison the obvious poster boy for this…5 -
Sat in the Directors Box right in the halfway line directly behind Appleton - he didn’t say one thing all game to the players. Just stood motionless. Absolutely begs belief how you can watch that dirge and not say a word.Did nothing. No tactical switches. No subs. No nothing. In contrast, their No.7 came on and won the game for them.A few other Addicks had hospitality and spoke with Andy Scott afterwards making it clear they weren’t happy.Enough is enough. Get rid now!39

Re today’s game, I didn’t go but can totally understand the fans giving them pelters afterwards, it was another horrible performance against a bang average team and, even if we had nicked the win, it would only be papering over the cracks.

2.If it's the case that the team really is below standards for L1, how is abuse and booing going to help? They will need to put in performances above their ability ,that will require extra effort and concentration. How will it help to have our fans shouting " you're f**king useless" or similar .
Don't blame them if they leave at the first opportunity. And why would more talented players want to join us?
I'm disappointed, but if you don't like don't go again. You're not helping.
How can players perform confidently when they know they will be abused for mistakes. They play safe and that that is unlikely produce winning results.3 -
Didn’t bother to watch don’t really have any appetite to watch I want better but at the moment there’s no indication it will get better and I’ve seen enough from the current mob to know less than half the team care0

Strangely enough, heard the same from someone sat behind the dug out on Saturday that Mr Motivator was stoic throughout the game0

It was crap on Saturday, so the best response is to be completely unchanged.
I know our squad is thin because of injuries, but not one teensy weensy little re-jig, or maybe two?
It's as if exploiting MBick recently is some kind of message being sent out somewhere by Appleton.1 -
Athletico Charlton said:A bit of time after the game and my first post, wider thoughts...
Orient were a very poor but physical and organised side. The sort of team a play off contender should be brushing aside without difficulty 8 times out of 10. They barely threatened and didn't create a lot. They were there for the taking.
The first half was a drab affair where C Campbell should have done better than tap a clear chance along the ground at the keeper after telegraphing his shot. The linesman flagged two offsides that were not where we could have broken and had a clear chance. The ref was typically poor. We pumped long ball after long ball in the direction of CBT who I don't think has ever won a header, he doesn't even challenge.
The second half we continued the aimless pumping of long balls at CBT but mixed up occasionally to overhit passes to May. Whoever is the tactical genius behind this play needs a new answer.
Our set pieces throughout were poor from an attacking point, two Fraser corners in succession in the first half were as bad as I have seen, then one tried off the training ground except only 2 players seemed to have prepared for it so it was easy to defend.
On set pieces against we are painfully bad and weak. Balls bouncing in our box is just schoolboy, totally criminal for a professional player.
The goal was appalling by half of the team.
Outside Deji, I don't think there is a fit player left out of the squad, Appleton has no chance to change it up; in that way I have some sympathy but in recent weeks he has continually blamed the squad and players and bemoaned all the kids. No wonder then they don't seem to want to play for him; no wonder not a single kid has improved.
Take T Campbell, he looks non league currently, totally devoid. Yet, we know he is an exciting young talent. He is a shell of the player MA had when he joined. Almost every player by a man has regressed under MA.
We lose £8M a year, seem to be building off the pitch and have Methven, Scott, Rodwell, Warwick, Lonegan, Sutherland and Elliot all being paid which seems to me to be a crazy number for a L1 club. The owners surely have a plan and a playing budget beyond "being cleverer than everyone else and doing the playing bit on a budget". The issue is, if that were true, why Appleton.. he is the absolute definition of a budget singing and yet the manager role is so absolutely crusical.
They bought us for £12M, have loaded more cost on, lost supporters and hence turnover and must be hemorrhaging money, there can be no slow build to glory. It needs us to do an Ipswich and go all in hard. This window needs to start the build by picking off some of the soon to be out of contract players with 6months left on their contracts; the summer needs a proper run at it.
But next season will have much harder teams both from those being relegated and those being promoted.
I will never feel apathy for this club, it means too much. You say “the owners have a plan” but the point is the owners are part of the plan. They were recruited by the management. If they have an appetite for it, which is a big if, they need to work it out and change direction. Or get out.9 - Sponsored links:

Alfie May player/manager, job done.

Two very poor teams. However, bad we are we should never have got beat today. Gifted three points to Orient. Defending for the goal was pathetic. We were second best the whole 2nd half. Got two matches before window reopens. We need oven ready signings to go in to the starting 11 for port vale.Felt sorry for Kanu today. Really struggled on the right wing position.0

We need some Prem quality loanees (not Tedic).0

Really petty of the Charlton fans to boo the guy proposing to his girlfriend at half time, specially after explaining that her dad had died not long ago.

What the feck do they do in training?

Watched a stream, and went to Peterborough v Reading. Big differences, Peterborough mostly keep the ball on the ground, neat passing, playing into spaces where they know a player will run into. Reading play with passion, 2-2. We lack both.
Consensus from Peterborough supporters, JCH is shit and lazy.2 -
Sack Appleton, bring in Michael Duff.Rebuild for 3-5-2, building around May as he’s our best player. Instead of what Appleton is doing and moving our best player around to accommodate his system5
