We're in a weird place now whereby Jones needs to play the hungriest team rather than the one that's best on paper. These guys need to know that they can't half arse it between now and the end of the season

Yeah I think diamond formation is the way to go.
    a) it stops the absolute chaos of is having three at the back, which has been a total disaster
    b) it avoids any formation where Alfie is isolated upfront on his own
    c) most crucially, it actually makes the most of the better players we have, rather than trying to shoehorn players into a system that doesn’t suit what we have.

It will probably be pretty austere and unexciting, but I’m convinced it will more stable and give us a platform to build from.
  • Great presser from Nathan. Now let’s see something positive on the pitch.

If Dobbo is seeing out the remainder of his contract and playing, I would put him alongside Coventry to be as strong defensively as possible and play Camara in the hole behind the front two. DK and May up front - Aneke and Ladapo as options to come on. I really hope this is a stat reset - 2-0 to the Addicks…
That's what I would do. We need to change system.

    One for all you formation experts who haven't apparently given any consideration to how Lincoln might line up- maybe it's perfectly reasonable to ignore how the opposition line up, I really don't know. I do hope however that Jones and Hart and/ or any scouts we have in the north have given some insights into how Lincoln might play ahead of this game. Couple of familiar names here too;

They actually play a 3-5-2 with Sorensen and Hackett-Fairchild as the wing backs. Sorensen was very good in the home game against us
So if they stick to 3-5-2 we'll have to match up won't we? Otherwise overloaded in the middle which means around our own box when they're attacking. Then if they go 4-4-2 or something else from the start or during the game.. omg .. doesnt bear thinking about.

(Maddferret's idea about the best 11 hungrier players will do for me!)

I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t change shape for tomorrow. NJ has always been quite demanding of his FB’s, his 4 diamond 2 formations of the past would rotate into a back 3 with really high advanced FB’s anyway.

As much as I didn’t like the wasted opportunities of Watson & Edun, it was something different and a nod to the future seeing both of them in position to deliver 11 crosses between them. Unfortunately they completed 1. I don’t remember both of them being that high that often before.
I expect Dobbo is straight back into the side, REG to line up RCB and Kanu to start up top. Expect we’ll see Ramsay at some point tomorrow, not sure whether from the start or not.
Tough, tough game! They’ve not lost in 5, only conceded 2 in that run, 3 clean sheets and shut out both Derby & Peterborough. Nervy night in store!

Think we might see a diamond in midfield, surely we can dominate it then.

We need to be on our game from the off get in their faces look to upset their game
I would definitely go with a back 4 & even go with 1 sitting just in front go all out not to concede & maybe nick one on the break
It's not a ideal to have to set up this way at home but we need to stop this run we are on
Hopefully we will see an improvement in our defending & put the fight that's needed
So COYR Let's do this  B)

It’s Ramsay with an ‘a’ before the ‘y’ folks, nowhere near as bad as Ventokele or Gillespie but the misspelling is still doing my head in 😉.

Does anyone else remember when the playoffs was the bare minimum we expected from this season, and nothing else would be good enough? How tf have the board managed this so badly

So McGrandles went straight into their first team, that won the previous game?
  • Absolutely gutted , fucking petrol head who 4 years ago had zero interest in going to football is now insistent on going , little shits birthday and he says no , Peter Kay was coming but his younger cousins are coming over so he’s found the excuse he was looking for to get out of it  . Boffin shrugged his shoulders and a whatever , I think he’s joining us as we navigate the Blackwall tunnel and I get angry on the way home and call peTRol head a Cnut for making us Go to watch The shit we’re sure to be served up
whatever the result I fucking hate This shithouse shameful mess of a club more than ever … to Think we’ll be wankinG off over avoiding div 4 if we’re lucky , what a time to be alive …..cnuts
This post perfectly illustrates a point I was making to my wife yesterday while we watched the Super Bowl and all the tailgate parties and half time show, and the Nickelodeon "kids" version with stupid animations and punditry from Dora the Explorer. I said the actual sport was decent but they needed to lose all the BS around the outside, she said "but it's entertaining and fun for kids and casual fans" and I said f*ck the kids and casual fans, sport isn't supposed to be fun or entertaining. It's supposed to be 99% agony, an ordeal, a test of character. That way the 1% ecstasy to you do get takes you to a higher plain for a weekend, but it never lasts. Trouble, is you never know when the 1% is going to come next so you have to keep showing up just in case.

Not sure how fit Small is but Ramsay surely gets a start over T Watson.
id have Ladapo and Kanu with May instead of L.Watson just behind.
    Dobson in for Bakinson.
we are at home and need to be on the front foot
Ladapos last chance before being benched. He got
mos of his goals last season from the bench anyway.

A lot picking Camera to start, I’d be very surprised personally. Can’t see him doing more than 30 minutes off the subs bench depending how the game is going. I just hope Kanu starts ahead of Lapadoooo.

Thinking is we need to go for this game from the off. I’d rather start strong with Camara than being behind and bring him on

Even with the prospect of getting a free ticket (thanks @LargeAddick) I'm not tempted to freeze my bollox off to watch another pitiful display.

We need creativity & a goal threat. On Saturday we had neither. Until Jones can change that then we are only heading one way. This is now a must win match. Need to keep out of the bottom 4. Once we drop into it I fear we wont get out.

    1-1.

Tenai Watson, Tayo and Ladapo all deserve to be dropped on recent form.  I know we're not spoilt for choice when it comes to width, particularly going forward, but for too long we've let players who have consistently turned out poor performances get away without being dropped.  How long did it take for the likes of Gilbey and Fraser to be taken out the team.  For me, if we're a club serious about changing our direction, we stop letting players off the hook after 2 or 3 poor games.

I would prefer a back four, and much rather see Terrell Thomas at LB.

With Chuks to come on as early as possible without overdoing it.

You just know it’s only a question of time before he breaks down again.

Two full backs Nathan Jones must have had an input into signing so eventually will both come into the reckoning to play or why else sign them?

I had an incredibly vivid dream last night that we lost 5-4 and missed an injury time penalty.
The most stressful bit of the dream was that I couldn’t get my betting app to work when it was 4-4.

Hoping for another win in the league 77 days after our last, which equates to a third of the season, give or take. They'll give us nothing though, and I expect us to lose this one in a scrappy affair 1-2.

Season defining game. Bigger crowd than normal for a midweek match, new manager bounce, opponents with not a huge amount to play for. Don’t know how to call it. A morale boosting win fuelled by the returning prodigals off the bench or yet another pathetic display by whatever 11 deckchairs NJ decides to shuffle on this Titanic of a squad. Neither would surprise me.

Think we lose this 2-0 and in similar fashion to previous games, don't create many chances. I'd like to see a move away from the 352 because that just hasn't worked but I'm not sure we have the players to manage that.

Think it speaks volumes we've loaned McGrandles to a top half team and he starts for them. Just highlights how badly everyone in our squad has underperformed when our 4th or 5th choice DM deemed surplus to requirements is good enough to play for a top half side

Jones is going to have to be creative and work with the unbalanced dross that he’s been left with .  I know players were more adaptable in years gone by but I seem to remember our most enjoyable spell of our premier league era came with Holland on the right and Stuart on the left , neither of whom were naturals in that position .  This 352 is genuinely appalling and was never going to work, as I said weeks ago.
