I know the feeling. Dont want to piss on anyones chips, but this game pops up every few months and these days it just reminds me of the gulf between us and them now.Leuth said:What's even the point of having relegated Palace any more, look at them now and look at us now. We should have lost, kept them up and then the butterfly effect wouldn't have played it out like this, the Worst Possible Timeline
Would we rather have lost that day in exchange for an altenate reality of having the run in the prem that palace have enjoyed over the past decade and dump them into L1 in our place? Maybe?1 -
Young Ben Watson in the palace line up that day2

The enjoyment of that day eclipses all the s*** we have suffered since.CAFCTrev said:

I've never known The Valley so full a good 20 minutes after the final whistle, so I'm sure we weren't the only two.2 -

Richard Murray you fool. You had it all but fucked it up on the biggest, destructive ego trip ever seen.
How the hell did you employ that fucking idiot you cretin.9 -

One game vs YEARS of suffering...
If you could tell me that we lost that game and as a result we stayed in the PL or at least between PL & Championship and were not used as a play thing by so many owners, I would take that loss.3 -
What have Palace fans got to gloat about though? Really?
OK, they are in the Premier League. So what?
Their club has lots of money compared to us. Again, so what?
They are a club who are in the Premier League to make up the numbers. They haven’t achieved European football or won any silverware. Their time in the Premier League isn’t greatly different from the time we spent there in that regard.
They get to watch players like Aguero, Lacazette etc every week. But again, who really cares?
I’d much rather support a club that is at a lower level that has a real identity and a challenge ahead, than just being another club who are only present for the likes of Man United, City etc to play and has to force an identity (“South London and Proud” bollocks) just to try and make anyone take much notice.1 -
The fact that a two-all draw fifteen years ago against a team that (at the time) was a one-sided rivalry is lauded as one of the highlights sums up the lack of ambition and the mentality of some of our fans.
The fact that we *still* go on about the 3-3 draw against Man U, 1-0 at Anfield etc as if they are some epic acheivements (of course they were at the time) is slightly embarrassing. Even bloody Millwall and Wigan etc have had cup finals. We've had nothing to shout about whatsoever - nothing but mostly pain and misery for years now yet someone says 'yeah but we beat Arsenal 4-2 in 2002'... it doesn't wash anymore. We are number three in South London like it or not. I'm hopeful that our new owner will change that around, but at the moment, that's how it is.
The irony is that if we hadn't 'sent the Palace down', the Jordan thing wouldn't have been so pronounced and Murray probably wouldn't have eventually picked/been able to pick Dowie as a manager, but seeing as though he was already losing the plot by then, there are no guarantees his choices would have been any better.

If you don't want to be in the premier league or strive to be as high as you can, then why even bother?3 -
Players like Gunter and Watson give us our proud identity of a struggling mid table League 1 club signing players well past their best. Fingers crossed we replace them properly this summer, there must be a few Welsh legends and ex Palace players in their 30s who are available.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

In our premier league years, we beat Chelsea , Liverpool and Spurs several times , Arsenal at least twice and consistently finished mid table in the premier league . This is a complete not event , particularly as they have been two leagues above us for several for the last 9 seasons .Edit : oh, and we didn’t even win the game !2

Like the Spurs fans who'd rather lose last night & miss out on CL football just so their "rivals" fail to win the title I'll never understand fans who take delight over their own misery.0 -

Guess what Goldfie as shit as we are and as good as palace are we still have that day from 19 years ago to have lived through it was brilliant and whatever happened since isn’t a jinx on that day or anything
imagine in 20 years time if spurs had drawn/won and handed arsenal the title and not got champions league or even a miracle they got champions league , they’re never gonna win it next year anyway
but arsenal fans will have reminded them till eternity about the game they handed the title to them
so the bigger picture spurs result last night was for the greater good and mental health of spurs fans in the future
football is massively about rivalries take that out or don’t have that and you’ll miss out on the delights of Claridge in the last min
stern John in the last minute
Blackburn fucking the scum up last game of last year
these were all things of beauty and stay with you forever !5 -
It was a brilliant day, but I'd still take losing that and being stable in the Premier League or Championship over it.1
-
It’s all about perspectives I suppose. I can look at that day in isolation and enjoy it for what it was.golfaddick said:

In isolation it was a great Charlton moment, but now very much tainted by the reversal of fortunes for both clubs.2
