Solly seems to have been welcome enough to return a few years after the fact including by people who were colleagues/team-mates at the time. So whatever his reasons, the matter appears "concluded" and everyone personally involved has moved on, whether you like that or not.

As has been stated, the reason that people were less bothered about Solly than Taylor was because Solly didn't have the potential to save us from relegation that Taylor did. For the same reaon, people weren't bothered about the forgotten man in this converation, David Davis, refusing to play. If anything, I think Solly got more stick because he was club captain and because of his history with the club than he would've done if he'd just been any old mediocre reserve right-back (which is sadly what he'd become by that point).

Can anybody remember how many games, following football starting up again after Covid halted the season, were played before the expiration of players contracts? Which is usually 30th June, there or thereabouts?
Edit: Looks like 3 games up to (including a game on) 30th June. After that, 6 games. All we needed was 1 more point. Taylor could have been the difference maker in many of those games. He should never be forgiven.

Bowyer lumped Taylor, Solly and Davis together to create a siege mentality. Their circumstances were all different. It didn't stop Bowyer signing Taylor as soon as he could when at Birmingham.

Instead a different academy player filled that role and did fine. The other was absolutely our best player and talisman, and our only chance of getting the goals we needed to stay up. We didn’t and we’ve not got back up since. Let’s not pretend the two situations had anything like the same effect
But the point is still valid there was still no reason for Solly to refuse to play but he did it anyway, he wasnt going on to a life changing move like I was (sorry, Lyle was), Also Lyle wasn't our best player that season, our season went down hill when Gallagher left for me as we lacked any tenacity in midfields but thats bar the point as im not defending Taylor. Assuming that is true why did Solly stay silent when Bowyer publicly said he had refused to play alongside Taylor and Davies? Even if he thought the timing was wrong with us fighting relegation surely he should have said it at the end of the season when he was leaving. No way would I allow someone to chuck me under the bus that way and not correct it.

I assume we tried to arrange short term contracts to extend to the end of that seasons games, but he refused that also.

I don’t care that Solly is ‘one of our own’, I still haven’t forgiven Scott Parker for 2004, I’m quite happy to be annoyed at academy players. I just don’t care about Solly because we didn’t need him and his service before that offset it entirely. What you’re forgetting in this thing you’ve concocted is David Davis didn’t come back either. He’s not one of our own but he was rubbish in the 5 games he did play and I reckon most of the people on this thread don’t even remember he was here, let alone hate him. Hardly one of our own. Taylor’s absence killed what had already been a really difficult season and he showed absolutely no remorse for it, that’s the reason.
