  • Evatt Post-Match, doesnt really mention us:  https://x.com/OfficialBWFC/status/1827389772895068633
  • The difference in this team now is remarkable last couple of seasons everytime a team attacked our box I was terrified! As you just knew they would score. Now tbh I’m confident that they won’t score. So much more organisation and desire it’s ridiculous.
  • Another win, 9 points from 9, another clean sheet, a win against a good team in Bolton and even a second goal which was scored by a striker. I hope the locks on the toilets are still broken or we’re going to have very little to complain about this week
I’m waiting on Golfie to complain that goals do matter - because we are currently 3rd due to amount of goals scored.
Said that to my son after the game 😀

I couldn't give a fuck about clean sheets. Just win games & then make sure you win by 2 or 3.
Hate to break it to you but only one automatically promoted team in the past 5 seasons has averaged more than 2 goals a game - and they came 2nd.

Most have averaged 1.7 - 1.8 so the only way teams are generally getting enough points to win leagues is by keeping clean sheets*, not be winning by 2 or 3 goals a game.

*Yes they all averaged 1 or less goal conceded a game - 0.8 - 1.0.

Excellent stat. I know people want the team to be charging forward all the time and scoring lots of goals but how many times have Charlton sides been an easy touch. Poor Alfie May must have been pulling his hair out last year, for all his goals the team he was in was actually the worst in my memory and probably a lot of other people's memories. Still early days but this team doesn't look like it will be rolled over.
  • Just looking at the match stats alone, we only had 6 shots to their 13. And just over a third of the possession. Appreciate the possession isn't the best indicator, in fact the stats alone are nota great indicator of how the game was.

Were we pretty comfortable despite having to few shots and them double the shots?

  • Won't say too much more than has already been said. Immense perfomance in the scheme of things.

Some real danger in the league this year and plenty of it. Look at the other results today. I think there is going to be a real gap opening up with the quality sides pushing away from the rest early doors.
Frightening that we are going to have to keep up this level of performance up every week to be in amongst it!

Absolutely. Quality not quantity is bit clichéd but does apply - Bolton have a lot of possession but most of it was passed sideways and backwards as they didn't look like actually making any really threatening moves very often.

The same for the shots - maybe they had a lot but again most were snatched or hit-and-hope speculation as they weren't really carving out a lot of really clear cut chances. There were a few but Mannion looks like he's up to the job.

Absolutely comfortable, last season I felt we’d concede at any given time in the match. We’d find a way to lose the match.

  • Apparently proper data analysis shows that denying goals leads to a better likelihood of promotion than scoring them. Bad news for football but possibly good news for us.
