London Marathon 2025

edited September 2024 in Not Sports Related
I go to the wonderful CL well again.
My eldest, Robert, is running in April 2025 for his second tilt at the London Marathon - and for the same cause that he and his brother Danny have raised funds for in previous runs. A cause, as you will all know, that is very dear to Munro hearts.
Whatever support you can give will be greatly appreciated, and know that the money will be very well spent.

Thank you xx

  • Good luck Bob !. Had my place officially confirmed today, am running for Orchard Vale Trust, a very small charity for adults with learning difficulties and live in accommodation.

Done, I'll also be around the Cutty Sark cheering all runners on.
  • Thank you so much @McBobbin and @Rob7Lee

We usually start at the Rose of Denmark, then head off to Tooley Street, Canary Wharf and then across for the finish.
It's a great day out even if you don't have an interest in any runners - it displays all that is best in the human condition.

I'm also running it again next year. 2nd time doing it for Great Ormond Street. Good luck to your son, Bob and you too Shine.

I haven't kicked off my fundraising yet so I'll make a start on it!

  • Good luck to Robert Munro and all those running the marathon this weekend. We have a team at work running for the Salvation Army so am going to try and get down to the Cutty Sark.
  • Backed all four of you for a few quid. I'm envious of the day you'll have, it'll be right up there, good on you!

I am running the marathon, and one of the sector manager volunteers I work with.  They has suggested to avoid Cutty Sark as they believe it will be the busiest part of the route.  Cutty Sark DLR will be entry only, so you will need to walk over from Maze Hill or Greenwich (if not local already)
  • I’m doing it for CAFOD. My missus couldn’t even get out of the DLR station at Cutty Sark last year. She goes to mudchute which is a lot quieter.

On behalf of my son, thank you very much.

We start watching at the Rose of Denmark. It gets fairly busy but no problem standing right by the curb to cheer them all on. Music, food, and Guinness - what's not to like!
  • Be warned Bob there are less trains running on the Woolwich line Sunday so might not be as easy to move on etc
  • Mmm, our route is typically watch near Angerstein Arms (not far from house) about mile 6, get train from westcombe park to greenwich and then DLR to canary wharf, watch runners go through first time , have lunch, watch them go past second time then go to finish if supporting a close friend/partner or home.

i think they have changed the route round canary wharf since i last did this and now wouls beed to watch at Mile 15 and 18.5 which depending in the speed of your runner may not leave long enough for lunch in between.

    Thanks, AFKA.

We're all staying near London Bridge so shouldn't be a problem getting to Charlton via Blackheath (Robert gets off there!) and we'll have our 18 month old grandson with us so we'll probably hang around the Rose for a while after Robert passes through and then head straight to the finish. So we'll be in no rush.

Ah incredibly kind ty ! I've had to defer due to a hernia op, but my funds and charity place have been rolled over to 2026 so still very much appreciated 👏
  • Sister in law is running for the first time for Motor Neurone, so if you see the orange MNDA vest with a Charlton badge on, give her a cheer.

Medders formally of this parish is running this year as well.

I’m going to try to get to 4 spots on route so if you see someone with a red Charlton flag, come and say hello!

  • anyone thats running stick numbers on here as we also have a large contingent following my pals in

charlton > canary wharf > westminster > trafalgar sqaure
  • The crowd starts building at Cutty Sark from 7:30am.  When we marshall there, we report between 7-7:30 and people have already started to take their places.

From own previous running experience, Canary Wharf is around 17-18 miles and the legs are starting to hurt then.  If you can get somewhere along North Colonade (my entourage was waiting outside KPMG) thats when you need a boost.  Then you can get the DLR from there to Thames Gateway, see the runners again around Tower Bridge around 22 and then jump the district line down to Embankment for the final 1-1.5 miles and you're a short walk from Horseguards Parade where the runners come out at the end.
  • Robert is 61267
  • Mine is 35614
  • The obligatory pre Marathon "here's my running gear" pic. 24938 for me

  • One of the rhinos will be an Addick this year!

If you see RHINO JAMES, be sure to give me a shout - I'm gonna be sweating like hell in there 🥵

Fair play mate. No easy thing running a marathon let alone wearing a rhino suit!
