Nathan Asiimwe (new contract & season loan to Wimbledon p11)

Hope NA grows from his loan experience, as so many have and will continue to do.0

I think he is a wonderful young talent with a good future ahead of him. Very attack minded and probably needs to polish the defensive side of his game but he didn't look out of place in L1 overall and should be an excellent signing for a National League side.9

Nathan was substituted after an hour in the home defeat against Dagenham & Redbridge.
Former Pools & Charlton striker Josh Umerah with the only goal of the game.
Nathan has joined Hartlepool at at difficult time with manager Darrell Sarll coming under increasing pressure from fans & speculation on his future added to by being joined in the dug out for the 2nd half by Lennie Lawrence, who is now on the board at the club.4 -
Hadn’t made the Lennie connection, I’m sure he’ll look after NA for us1

Nathan was subbed after 78 minutes in last nights 0-3 home defeat to Rochdale.1

Taken from an article write up about Hartlepools summer signings.
Nathan Asiimwe:Still not sure what his best position is and he has lined up at both wing-back or out wide during his short stay at Pools so far. One or two flashes of promise as well as a brilliant header off the line in the 96th minute against Sutton, but hasn't had enough time to show what he can do.4 -
I’ve never seen him referred to as a winger until Hartlepool announced signing him. Hasn’t he always mainly been a RB/RWB?1

I do remember an interview where he said he'd started further forward and had been moved back as he got older. Maybe when he was much younger?1

“When I came into the academy I was playing in a forward role, as a winger and even sometimes in midfield,” said Asiimwe.
“That was until U13s and then one of the coaches decided I should drop down and become a full-back – that it would be a good position for me. At the time, because I wanted to be attacking, I wasn’t really happy with it.
“Eventually I started revising the role, getting used to it and trying to better myself."

So yeah, much younger!0

Good find, think I remember reading that having seen it again.
Reminds me of this Jamie Carragher quote about FBs being failed CBs and wingers. No kid wants to be a Gary Neville.

I'd argue in some teams recently the fullbacks/wingbacks have been the most creative, attacking players. TAA and Robertson at Liverpool, Dumfries and Dimarco at Inter, Theo Hernandez at Milan, Frimpong and Grimaldo at Leverkusen, Davies for Bayern Munich, Mendes and Hakimi at PSG... Extreme examples but they're not all steady Eddies anymore2

I've only ever seen him as a right back but in the last season or so he has been playing slightly more advanced.
Npt sure how things are going at Hartlepool - they are just seemingly waiting for an excuse to sack the manager I think. Their season is as good as over with I think. Behind the scenes they are, frankly, shocking. So amateurish0 -
Nathan played for 80 minutes for 'Pools' as wing back in their 1-1 draw at Altrincham last night & was praised for his performance by manager Lennie Lawrence.

Lennie Lawrence!
You’re kidding me.
The guy must be about 200 years old by now. He looked like he does in the image above when I was 12.1 -
Sounds like he played right midfield/wing from that as he mentions him playing WB for us so wasn’t sure he could play in front but did a good job.
Sky Sports scores app has him at RM in a 4-5-1.3 - Sponsored links:

I wonder if we'll recall him now with Watson being injured.4

We didn’t let him play in the FA cup for them so I’d assume the first round of the cup was seen as an opportunity to get him game time for us anyway, and that was before our injury issues0 -
We need him back with Ramsey & Watson out. He’s a better right back than REG.
Having him in the side would also help us create more as his best asset is his ability to go forward…which we desperately need.4 -
Is he better than Reg? He has been poor defensively when he has played for the first team. Given our defensive struggles of late do we really want to start a young right back who gets caught out of position a lot. We need him as cover but not sure if his runs forward outweighs his defensive frailties2

Depends on what formation NJ is going to spring upon us next. 4ATB REG is better a 3/5 then you probably want Asiimwe, but in Anderson we already have an eager youngster that's willing to run himself into the ground but makes mistakes, I don't think the rest of the squad has the quality to cover 2 first teamers doing that regularly4
-
I'm sure he will come back now as we have no cover for the position. A bit frustrating for Hatlepool but we have a couple of games he can play in for us coming up.0
