I am SO angry after reading this announcement , just 24 hours before the flood gates open & the thirsty hordes cram into Crossbars to take advanyage of this "wonderful offer".
So, the regular fans, the lifeblood of our football club who support through thick & thin, rain & shine & whose matchday habits for EVERY Saturday home game are to meet their friends & family in the one fans' area available under cover where they can sit for up to 3 hours before ko & catch up over a drink or three , will face disruption to their plans.
Many of those regulars live over an hour's drive from SE7 , others arrive by train , some may have seen this "offer", others won't .....Who will take my bet that Southend tickets for next Saturday will go on sale tomorrow, meaning more milling around the Ticket Office area earlier than usual on the last matchday before the seaside trip.
Forward planning with the FANS in mind, my ars*. But what's new ?
OK, this post is motivated by our own long term plans for tomorrow but with many others in mind who will also be affected.
Some weeks ago, I heard from sillybilly /Jim that he was finally coming over from the IOW for the first time since his life changing operation in 2021and wondered whether we could meet up before ko and that he would love to put faces to CL names /say hello on the day to some of those Lifers who had supported him at the worst time in his life.
Arrangements have been made for 12noon in Crossbars.....
What an absolute mess once again with little if any thought for the faithful.
Just to sell more beer.
We are clutching at straws now with our outrage
I don't make a habit of criticising our club for no reason...except by being active in the Belgian's tenure.
But I'm seriously starting to feel that my support is worth very little these days.
And that saddens me perhaps more than it angers me.
For the 2nd time in a matter of weeks, I've been affected directly by decisions made.
The most recent U21 match played at Princes Park was not streamed due to "problems".
Did the club apologise to those who like me, pay £7 pm for these streams or offer to reimburse us ?. Silly me to expect anything of the kind.
Now, with just 24 hours notice for regular fans to amend their matchday plans, an announcement is made regarding the opening hours of the Fans' Bar....
NO thought for the lifeblood of our football club which could have folded before these decision makers were even born was it not for the fans.
Maybe it's time to sit them down, tie them to their chairs & make them watch videos of our history and why they need to think carefully about those who'd play their part in a heartbeat again should action be needed in the future.
It's not JUST about the young 'uns or those who can afford the expensive hospitality in the lounges.

You're right it's bad that the club didn't apologise/refund for the U21 game but that's a totally different department.
Think it's hard to understand the logistics of this weekend for lots of people. A lot more fans = a lot more staff, a lot more stock, a lot more organisation. Agency staff are often only recruited a day or two before the event so it's highly possible that the club didn't know if this offer would be possible until this morning due to capacity.
The fans bar always has a better atmosphere when busy, it's a good thing!

Jean as usual you make some very valid points i do feel the club is damned either way Im a die hard of many yrs like you but many on here have criticised the club for not exploring ‘ other commercial avenues ‘ Bottom line for me I’m looking fwd to a near capacity crowd and hopefully 3 pts
However If some of these things the club are doing will bring in more regular fans then that’s fine by me Hope to see you tomorrow.x

A service you paid for, not being provided and one you don't pay for, opening its doors 30 mins early are very different things.
Not quite sure where the ageism aspect comes into this, we are all fans and any changes effect us all.
Quite how half/half scarf and opening doors 30 mins early has go to this level of unhappiness I don't know.

Are you a member of the Trust btw?
Yes and my 5 year old also has been since birth, shall I revoke my membership because im not willing to pile onto every single decision the club makes ?
You know that momentum which wrexham have ? thats not just due to on the pitch results, that also comes from fans buying into the clubs ideas. If we had a TV series start 5 years ago, 99% of the fans would have called it cringe and pissed and moaned about that too.
I'm not prepared to go into further detail here & now and I'm totally disinterested in the scarf fiasco & have nowhere commented on it.
All I shall say is both of my above gripes have come about through, IMHO, lack of forward planning by staff /SMT involved and that makes me feel, rightly or wrongly, taken for granted.
"Ageism", shine166 ?
Not wishing to pluck on anyone's heart strings but planning ahead does become more important as we approach our 80's than it did 20, 30,40 or more years ago when we'd drive all over the country to attend away matches in support of our club.
That is far more of an issues nowadays, sadly, as you may agree if you're fortunate to reach that ripe old age. And together with allied health issues, life is more complicated....something that's hit us where it hurts in recent weeks. Maybe you'll accept what I'm trying to point out when you're no longer one of our younger regulars. But then ., we'll be long gone....
Finally, as I explained earlier but seems to have passed you by, I have made arrangements to ensure that one of our fellow Lifers who is making a long journey to join us tomorrow .With 24 hours notice of this importatant factor of his attendance, there is now some doubt regarding its viability. You might like to check in the relevant thread back in 2021 if you're unaware of sillybilly's history.
I hear you about plans, but 30 minutes shouldn't change things too bad. Our party of 3 tomorrow are travelling from the cotswolds, Liverpool and Bedfordshire so yes travel plans can be a faff.
I'm not 'old' but am currently waiting for a hernia op, yeah it would be nice to have somewhere to sit before the game and hopefully the doors opeming 30 mins early (my plans also involve a 12oclock arrival) won't effect that.
I imagine if you turn up at 12.01and all the seats are gone (which they won't) someone will give you there seat... I certainly would even if that risks being labelled ableist.

They'll miss us when we're gone

We don't agree, but I hope you do too. We are all cafc fans after all.

I genuinely can't work out whether this is a wind up or not. If not, get over yourself.
In dear Jean’s defence, none of you will know (or even need to care about) the logistics for me to get there by 1230 tomorrow. Unfortunately the early opening may just Roger my plans (which have been scuppered about ten times already for a while host of reasons). I simply cannot get there any earlier. But hey ho. If the plan works it works, if it doesn’t no matter. There will be other occasions. But please don’t be mocking Jean who does so much for so many and is just airing some frustration.
Fair play to the club for wringing what they can out of this match which is beginning to feel like probably the second most important I’ll ever attend after Wembley (no me neither……)

Il be there at 12, im easy to spot as I have a massive wooly hat and dreadlocks. If there are no seats, come say hello and you can have ours.

Hope you make it and have a great day. For what it's worth our fans are a nice bunch and I'm sure would happily vacate seats for any who need it, I hope all is not lost for your plan!
Absolutely glad I don't go in there anymore and looking at some of the characters that do, and the treatment some are giving to a thoroughly decent Charlton fan doubles up on my view.
I left work early the other day to meet a mate for a pint. Imagine my annoyance when I got there and found other people had had the same idea and it was busier than I'd expected.

The fans bar always has a better atmosphere when busy, it's a good thing!
i do feel the club is damned either way
Im a die hard of many yrs like you but many on here have criticised the club for not exploring ‘ other commercial avenues ‘
Bottom line for me I’m looking fwd to a near capacity crowd and hopefully 3 pts
However If some of these things the club are doing will bring in more regular fans then that’s fine by me
Hope to see you tomorrow.x

So it's not about ME.
Beyond parody.
