Charlton Athletic announced today that sales for tomorrow's home match against Wrexham are already at 23,200 and are expected to exceed 24,000 by kick-off.
This would constitute the club's largest home full paying attendance since the play-off semi-final in 2019, and the highest such Charlton regular season home gate of the last decade. Wrexham have sold 2,500 of their 3,100 allocation, meaning that upwards of 22,000 spectators will be in The Valley's home ends.
West Stand Lower has sold out and there are only 200 seats remaining in the Covered End, so the club has now made the last remaining blocks in the Alan Curbishley Stand and West Stand Upper available. Those tickets will still be available on the day, from Charlton's Ticket Office in the West Stand.
Over 4,000 of the crowd will be first-time visitors from the South East London and Kent area, together with 1,000 visitors from foreign countries.
Charlton CEO Charlie Methven said: "We are delighted with the attendance and looking forward to seeing what a packed-out Valley delivers in terms of atmosphere. The intention of our 'Welcome to London' campaign was precisely to encourage new local audiences to come and sample what Charlton has to offer, so it's gratifying for our marketing team to see so many local first-time attendees. It's important to note, though, that the sheer number of 'first-timers' will bring with it a few operational challenges. We would encourage all fans to arrive as early as possible."
Nearly 25k attendance is a cracking effort, you can see why theyve pushed it especially considering the new and overseas fans making the trip and why those things like 50/50 scarfs make sense on this specific game.

I don't care about the 'welcome to London' stuff, that has deffo helped push the sales, but literally no one has bought a ticket because there are some half and half scarves available.
A quick read through this thread has me scratching my head.
We are a club losing £8 million pounds a year. No wonder the owners want to try and recoup some of those losses and if this Wrexham game gives them a chance to do so, good luck to them.
As for the half and half scarves, no I wouldn't buy one but if some of the tourists coming tomorrow are stupid enough to pay £20 (or whatever they are going to be sold for) for one, then taking their money is good enough for me.
I really do doubt the vast majority of fans find this all embarrassing. Maybe the majority of those on here do but by and large they are the ones who eat, drink and breathe Charlton. There are many fans who aren't on here and maybe aren't as passionate in their support and I doubt if they are losing sleep over this, not least because they haven't got a clue what is going on and probably wouldn't care even if they did know.
If we are losing 8 million a year, how much difference is an extra 3k or so going to make for the sake of our pride.
If you think it isn't a lot of people, take a look at the replies in this thread:
And thats just one of many on social media. Now I know people may not care how we are perceived by other clubs and the general footballing world, but I bloody do. I'm a proud Charlton supporter, and I bleed a lot of time and money for this club, I don't want this type of gimmick to be how our club is viewed.
I can barely accept us being a league1 team. Rolling out the red carpet to a team who were let's have it right, irrelevant, only 5 or so years ago is sickening.
Meant to be the pride of the South and we are bending over backwards for Wrexham and some £s. Shameful.
They'll sing 'you're only here for the Wrexham' at the weekend, and because of the clubs antics, it's the first time there's gonna be a bit of truth behind it.
The lack of pride has me scratching my head. If we went to any ground in the world, and they were selling half and half scarves and talking up a game this much, we'd be giving them pelters, and rightly so. Absolute commercial, gimmicky bollocks.
For the sake of your mental health, please don’t get too wound up. The circus will be moved on after the weekend and everyone will have forgotten about it - that’s the way the modern world of social media works.
If even a few hundred local newcomers enjoy themselves and decide they want to come back for another game then I will take that as a massive positive out of the day.
I imagine there will be plenty of American day trippers tomorrow hoping to catch a glimpse of the TV personalities but they might just catch the Charlton bug and if they come away from the game thinking Charlton is their new team, that would be brilliant.
Half and half scarves in the official club shop is a big own goal.
My mental health? Got far more to worry about than Charlton unfortunately.
Just discussing a hot topic and how it makes me feel towards the people calling the shots.

No but they might buy one if they see it.
Btw, not a single person has suggested anyone is attending a game just to get a scarf.
Just for a moment, Try and see some positives and try to enjoy thr game if you're going.
What are the odds on seeing people dressed as Deadpool or Wolverine in the home end tomorrow? Quite high I would expect
Who or what are Deadpool and Wolverine? Serious question.
Another one who lives under a rock . I don’t for one minute believe you’ve never heard of these.
Maybe there are more than you think...don't assume everyone is as genned up as you appear to be...
There is absolutely nobody in this country who hasn’t heard of Deadpool or Wolverine or at least one of them , even if they aren’t into films . That’s unless they’ve been in a coma .
I don’t know why the fans are getting so uptight about this. We all know how interesting people are over Wrexham because of the Disney and Ryan Reynolds. It’s not ideal but the club can take advantage of it so it will make people buy these.
I’m dreading seeing full of plastics around me but at the same time it’s good source of income for the club and the fans need to realise this!

I've heard of Deadpool and Wolverine and know they're something to do with action films - beyond that I'm clueless and wouldn't know what they look like. And I wouldn't have a clue what roles Ryan Reynolds has played at all.

I haven’t and I’m fit and well and living in the real world.

I have never heard of them, maybe because i'm too occupied supporting Charlton.

You’ve never heard those two words before ?
No I haven’t, wouldn’t know where to find it (assuming it’s a TV program and not a film)
All I think I know is that Deadpool is a computer game like Super Mario, and that a Wolverine is a solitary animal, carnivore I think, from the north part of North America.

I do wonder, if we had 16k at this game, if the same people complaining now, would be complaining the club had missed a trick to get big crowd in? club weren't imaginative with marketing and didn't try to appeal to a new fanbase etc..
maybe it would be different people moaning ? anyway here's hoping for a barnsto4ming charlton performance making us the Hollywood stars and getting alot of those ppl wanting to come back and watch charlton.

Maybe not, but it seems like they were a (very small) part of a what has to be said is a successful overall commercial strategy for this match.
Yes, it’s cynical to milk it, but a business that loses millions of pounds a year needs to find ways to reduce those losses and this one fixture will help a little with that.
Club sponsor hugely out of touch with fanbase. Shock.
You could argue, fan base out of touch with club too. Reading half these posts youd think we are a double hard pwopper nawty unit of a team with militant fans.
... rather than the family friendly, award winning community club who people aspired to be for a decade or 2.
Unfortunately for some, B mob and the 80s were over a long time ago.
More important than debate about what the club has done right/wrong tomorrow is Red, White & Black day and 20,000+ people will be there to see it which I think is brilliant
