Whilst some of the stuff going on is cringe worthy to the devoted, the real embarrassment tomorrow will be if the turnstiles are not all manned and operating, stewards are not scaled up to match the crowd size and they are not trained in how to manage crowd activity.

There is a good chance that there will be pockets of Wrexham fans and Disney tourist fans in the home areas and how these are handled by stewards, particularly if a goal is scored, will be critical to ensuring a trouble free game.

Ps the locks in the bogs in the North stand better be fixed!

This will be our biggest selling home league attendance in 10 years (where we haven’t just given 5000 tickets away.)

Why shouldn’t the club try to monetise whatever they can from it and ALSO try to pick up a few new fans from the 10000 new faces who will be there.

so there are more emails flying about but there’s also been a big marketing campaign aimed at the younger generation that some of us probably haven’t seen.  Whatever they are doing is working.

The way ffp now works means we can’t just get cash injections from a wealthy owner.  We have to be self sustaining and can only spend a percentage of our revenue so anything that increases revenue is good in my book.  This is football nowadays

This just isn't true in L1, SCMP rules allow it.

There's a big difference between a marketing push to sell tickets (good in my eyes) and printing and attempting to profit off another teams badge (bad).
This is something that needs to be made more clear tbh. Charlie Methven said this isn't the case at Bromley Addicks, if someone wants to correct me if I'm wrong?

From what I remember him saying, we can't just go and do these so called cash injections, and he heavily implied our hands were tied in how much money we could spend, and that stricter regulations are coming so it's in our interest to do things smartly (cheaply).

Yet I've read many people say that's not the case and we can sign whoever.

As for the argument about people saying that it's an opportunity to make money, I don't understand the logic. If you were truly a billionaire, and loved the club (allegedly) a few thousand is a drop in the ocean. Why risk your clubs image for a small fraction of your net worth. Screams of another set of owners not understanding the fans.

It all falls back to what I thought originally, and have always thought. I don't believe these lot actually have much money.

If they did, they'd be doing this type of advertising for every game to try and boost attendances and doing whatever they could. This is a pure cash grab weekend, has been from the way the fixtures came out.
CM’s being a bit economical with the truth there. You can put in what you want for now and effectively write it off and it’s fine, just a cash injection into the club. That is likely to change and CM has said in regards to other things (fan board specifically) that we want to get ahead of the rules before they change.

    This link explains it well
    https://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/scmp.php

However the Football League use a is broader definition of Turnover. Crucially, the FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity. Loans from club owners are understandably not included in the Turnover figure as these would result in growing club debts. up club debts.

Charlie Methven more or less said they're a phenomenon because of their deals and attendances etc. We can't compete with them.

I still don't understand why we can't be second to them though and be a mini super league one team of sorts. The transfer window never made much sense to me, and as the season goes on, it looks even more ridiculous that we didn't buff up a fairly depleted squad.

I know this is a bit off topic, but just because of how the club have approached this game, it concerns me they don't have the financial muscle that they've claimed, and are underestimating the league like Sandgaard did, and even he had more of a go at it than these lot with his money.

In response to your second paragraph part of the reason is we don’t get fans in the ground, we’re capitalising on that this weekend. Sure they won’t all come back but some will. The more full the ground is the better sponsorships we can get etc. Ultimately the main driver will always be performance though

But the vast majority of fans find the whole thing hugely embarrassing.

It's fucking Wrexham not Barcelona ffs.
    Why is it ‘embarrassing’ though?

Dont all businesses advertise to death when they can to sell something?

It’s not a statement on any one fan.
If you cannot see how embarrassing it is then that's on you.
Just look at the piss taking on social media for starters or read this thread.
Our owners are supposed be Billionaires and I can't believe raising a couple of grand selling scarfs will affect them one bit.
Hopefully they won't try anymore stunts like this in future
I don’t engage on wider social media. So that’s on you ! 😉🙁

Social media is not representative of all.

The serious point is that we are trying to make money by selling ‘tat’ to whoever will take it. There is no need to be embarrassed by that.

Of course it’s small beer in isolation but if the scarf also sells a burger also sells a mug etc. then that is the commercial aim.

Isn't it as much about promoting brand awareness as it is about making money? However, if they are rich, I'm sure they didn't get so by passing up on opportunities to make money, no matter how insignificant. I can't fault the Club for trying to promote the match, not that I think all the ideas have been good ones because I don't.

The article I've linked below  accurately states the current SCMP rules for anyone who's interested.

How Birmingham City shattered transfer records – and left English football in shock - The Athletic
Here's the important bit for those without a subscription

Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR) no longer apply to Birmingham since they were relegated. Instead, a new set of regulations, know as the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SMCP) are in place. They state that a club can only spend 60 per cent of its revenue on player wages, plus what the EFL calls 100 per cent of the “football fortune” which includes prize money from winning cup competitions, facility fees from broadcasters and net profits from transfers.

The SMCP also allows cash injections from owners in the form of equity, which essentially gives ambitious owners like Knighthood the opportunity to buy their way out of the lower leagues.

It is a controversial loophole and a hot topic of discussion as some EFL club owners have been trying to end, or at least put a limit on, the allowed spend. So far they have failed to get a majority to agree with them.

That still doesn't make much sense. Birmingham City have been getting attendances of 25k plus, we are around the 12-13k mark, they spent over 30 million, so why couldn't we spend between 5-10 million as an example?

Some people say you can bend the rules with cash injections and writing it off, others say you can't. It just isn't very clear how it all works.

This would be a flawed system if it were the case. As teams would never have a chance to progress if they were limited to how much they could spend based on their gates.

It all just seems too convenient for them. They can't/won't buy the Valley because it's too expensive right now, and have a fair deal on the lease. This is restricting them to improve the Valley and in turn the match day experience they keep harping on about, but then they don't want to improve how the Valley looks, as then the asking price would be more (their words).

So what's their plan? Try and get promoted with a bit of luck, aka on the cheap. Something is off.

I basically agree, if they really wanted they could invest more. It's just different strategies, we're trying to be run as a more standard business and Birmingham are taking a punt that their spending will be evened out with increased other income coming forward.

Agree with the ground ownership too although I doubt RD is stopping them doing much development, sounds like the lease is basically just for the use of the land and we can do pretty much what we want from it. Happy to be corrected though.

Here's the thing though mate, they can't. As a poster on here asked them this question (sorry can't remember who) and Methven deflected it and tried to have a cheap dig at the users math skills. Apparently we were tapped out and had no wiggle room in the transfer market.

RD isn't stopping them at all. It's just when someone asked what their plans were to improve stuff, they essentially said, as we don't own it, we don't want to improve it.

If you're a billionaire, with a genuine passion for this club, and see it as a long term project, you'd buy it all up immediately, especially if it was hindering development plans you have in mind.

Reynolds and McElhenney have spent around 25 million combined (potentially more) out of their pockets with half of our owners net worth.

I don't understand their vision. Cynic in me says these are gone within 2 years.

    See Birmingham City

Cynic in me says there are gone within 2 years.
Difference between can't and won't. In theory they can, they just don't want to. I think they should but they've got their business plan and they're sticking to it.

I agree that they're doing it on the cheap and there could be some quick wins if they wanted to spend even just a little more

We are far too friendly and welcoming as a football club.  Borders on submissive.  Is part of the problem that's seen us get turned over year after year.

A welcoming place for all visitors including away teams.  Nonsense that does us absolutely no favours and probably helps the oppo.

I am pleased for Wrexham having watching the doc and think good for them as a working class town as the club has really given them as sense of identity and pride....but when it comes to matchday fuck them.

Rolling out the carpet as if it's a long lost relative, jesus wept.
It's naff and is a stupid gimmick, but can you give other examples of us being too nice and how that affects us winning games. Massive overreaction.
Moving season ticket holders for Bournemouths promotion party
Letting Millwall fans leave & locking in the home fans.
Yes, but that will have been the police. No club ever goes against what they want.

  • What a lovely offer , trying to take the edge off us selling our soul and being cheapskates

Great £5 for a pint of flat gnats piss in a plastic mug...🙄
