    Hope it will be Mark Chapman but it's the BBC so it will be Paddy McGuiness.

    I’m surprised it’s still going. I get the tradition but seeing as you can watch the goals pretty straight after the game, seems a bit pointless now.

    It still has big viewing figures. If there's one thing that unites football fans it's their love of tradition.

    You get a lot of added context, even if you skip the studio stuff you get at least 5 mins of highlights for each game rather than just the goals

    Does it even need a host?

    I remember the episode when there was that fuss with Lineker and as a result of the fall out, Shearer and Wright refused to go on that week. The episode had no commentary or pundits, just 20-25 minutes of the match highlights and it was absolutely fine.

    To be fair to him he doesn't write the headlines or choose what news channels lead with. The real issue is the media who have made him a centrepiece of an ongoing culture war that focuses people's attention on that and not actual issues. Rage-bait is the main focus of so much of our media, it's very depressing
