I think this is probably what makes the situation so grating (for me at least.) The likes of Holden, Appleton, Gardner etc may have had some pretty low points but there were always some sort of mitigating reasons or other things going on, bad management of the club in general or money issues etc. Not to say they weren't bad because they were for various reasons and to varying degrees. But all those times we also knew that things behind the scenes were pretty bad and maybe a bad team was just a symptom of that.
But Jones? He's been given money, he's been given control, he's even got the best medical resources we've had for a long time. He's been given every single advantage and opportunity to make something better and what we've got is a team of cloggers. High energy cloggers who can run around busily for an impressive amount of time doing not very much except bore us to tears.
It's not good enough. It's got to get better. I hope it does. But right now... no its not good enough and Jones has to take actual responsibility for that and not say "Well I want better."

I'm coming more and more to the conclusion that Jones N is a crank. His touchline antics, erratic interviews, odd team selections .. he's had a couple of good seasons elsewhere along with several bad ones. Like many many managers who build a career and reputation on the 'good' he is living on past results that went his way. Mark Robins has been replaced by a Welshman at Coventry, I'd love him to take over at the Valley replacing another Welshman. However, I wonder if after seven turbulent years managing Coventry, he is looking for some r&r for a while and doesn't need another semi basket case managerial role. To sum up, Jones is yet another bad appointment by whoever is holding the Charlton power and purse strings at the time

Agree totally with this. I'm just hoping that something will "click" with NJ and the players and we'll see an improvement in the second half of the season. If he goes I dread to think of who might replace him. We wont attract anyone with a genuine reputation so it'll either be a hopeful punt on a young relative unknown (think Des Buckingham) or a lower league journeyman (think Appleton). I still favour giving Jones more time over these scenarios.

Possibly, but I think Charlton is seen as a bit of a free hit. If it goes well you’ll look like a genius, if it goes badly and you get the sack then people will just say you never had a chance because we’re a basket case of a club (and that’s definitely how you and your agent will spin it).

This is absolutely where I'm at , it's just general disappointment with how things are going. Feels like there's no real plan , the "box" midfield did the job to nullify Birmingham but I'm not sure if it's ever going to offer much in the way of creativity against the rest of the league. Expected more from the ex Luton signings (Hylton aside) given they're all players with experience of how NJ plays.
Just find this attritional style of football seemingly predicated on being fitter than the opposition so dull. I just can't see a situation where he takes the brakes off though. We're not suddenly going to be transformed into passing teams off the pitch in an attacking formation with flying wingers and a creative No10 that runs the show.

Well apparently we have the 4th biggest budget in the league. Shouldn't we be expecting around a 4th place finish ? We have been underperforming league position to budget wise for years. How are we ever going to progress when our better players are allowed to move on and replaced with journeymen.

I think the real disappointment is that he had moved us from performing like relegation candidates to performing like a mid table team by the end of last season. So this season should have seen further progression from there but it hasn’t, we aren’t any better now than we were at the end of last season

I've said it before and I'll say it again, any new manager would have kept us up last season. We just needed a change from Appleton.
To me you got to question the players commitment.we can’t keep blaming manager after manager how can they play like that against Birmingham then not be able to string a pass together since. Then injuries why are all our players injured season after season. you used to have half the team present in every squad and 2/3 would play every game nowadays your lucky to see 1 player be present in every match.

Slightly controversial, but I don’t think the injury situation is as bad as is being made out. I think we’re probably missing ~3 players that would make the first team which, at this stage of the season, doesn’t feel horrific.
Feels like we always have injuries and we’ve been through worse.
