It's not great but he has been hampered by injuries and most importantly I don't know who we would replace him with. The only manager I can think of who is available that I'd like is Mark Robins but that won't happen. We need players back and some good signings in January but our recruitment team is clearly poor too.
I'm not advocating for him to be sacked either, but even before the injuries we still didn't look good
Has he mentioned the words "lack of creativity" yet ? Until he does, he's in denial, and takes us all for idiots. Were he to hold his hands up and acknowledge that we lack pace and creativity, then I'd be happy to see him have the January window in order to try to rectify the situation. As things stand, I have zero faith that he even recognises where the problems are.
What do people want? I am sick of this merrygoround.
I am someone who believes in giving managers time. However, even with a good manager I think they have a shelf life. There are moments where the end is inevitable. Pardew following a bad defeat to Sheffield United and Parkinson against Swindon being obvious examples. I don't believe we are near that point with Nathan.
Our recent problems started with Bowyer. Even if he hadn't gone to Brum I feel his time with us was probably up. I want to remember the iconic day at Wembley.
I am probably in a minority in believing Nigel should have been given longer. I certainly think JJ deserved a full season following that.
Having made the switch to Garner , he should have been backed. However, I feel differently about Holden. He was clearly primed for the job ( why else would you watch us live in the Micky Mouse Cup at Plymouth?) and I felt that he was OTT in his fan engagement. I could buy a round of drinks in the Oak but does that make me a good manager?
I was happy to give Appleton a chance ,but knew as early as Orient away his race was run. I was surprised he was allowed to bring in players in January.
And so to Nathan. When he was appointed I felt we needed to allow him two complete seasons. He clearly made an impact last year in resetting a failing squad.
My view is this should not even be a debate for at least eighteen months.

I'm not happy but he needs to be given the next two windows to get it right. Should be fully judged this time next year. Wasn't going to sort the problems out in one window. Saying that anything less than six points from the next two games might see my stance change.
Some will disagree but I’ve got to congratulate Nathan Jones - he’s created the dullest, most boring Charlton team I’ve seen the almost 30 years I’ve supported us.
Even our relegation sides and mid table L1 sides had a few players with flair, creativity or pace.
Both Phil Parkinson and Russell Slade managed us and played cautious defensive football, but even they found room for players like Shelvey, Kyel Reid, Lookman, Holmes etc.
Jones doesn’t have many options to add those qualities but it’s 100% clear that was a deliberate choice. He believed we could out run, out battle and out muscle opponents, and by signing players who had done it for him in the past he was confident they’d drive that culture and it would get results.
There is no doubt there would have been capable attacking midfielders and wingers available to us, whether permanent or loans, but Jones decided not to bring any in (Dixon a cheap punt driven by our Jamaica link hardly counts).
For me we need a more balanced approach in our style and the type of players we go for. I have huge doubts he’ll admit it’s not worked and sign the right players we need to change it. If we stick with the current approach I feel certain it won’t end well.
Summer recruitment has proved poor too with only Mitchell, Godden and Edwards being successes.
The Luton players have been largely poor, Ahadme isn't a main striker and isn't clinical in front of goal and Docherty has been a big disappointment too. For whatever reason, too many have not lived up to their reputations.
We failed/chose not to make use of the premier league loan market yet nearly every team in this division has one, two or more decent loans topping up their quality.
And even when we started well and we're at least hard to beat, Jones started tinkering, dropping A Mitchell for no good reason. It's gone downhill since with every player, bar Coventry, being chopped at some point.
Jones is trying to build a team that outworks everyone else and appears to think his shear force of will will make it happen.
But it's not working and he is running out of excuses. We need a settled team or at least a settled system of play. And we need to grind out results the way we did in August even if it's not pretty.
I don't doubt that there are other deep rooted and long standing problems at the club, we've been too poor for too long in this poor division for there not to be, and I see little evidence that Charlie and his boys are solving any of them, certainly not on the pitch at least.
20 months into this regime and their third manager is in the firing line.
I can't see Scott, Rodwell or Methven wanting to sack Jones. What little credability they still have with the fan base and the US owners would vanish if they say they got it wrong a third time.
So it will have to be the Septics to turn sceptic for the axe to fall.
Maybe it will and Scott and/or Rodwell will go as well to deflect the blame from Charlie.
But even then a new manager is not a magic bullet as the past five years have proved.
What do people want? I am sick of this merrygoround.

With you 100% on this, although a Burton defeat may upset people behind the scenes.
Is part of the problem that neither Jones nor Scott are good at recruitment? At Luton, Jones had Mick Harford helping with that, with the addition of Phil Chapple later on, too. I think we need someone more capable on the recruitment side if we're going to make progress.

Agree it would help, but we’ll still have a problem if Jones doesn’t want players who’d add creativity and flair.
That prick brought on Hylton again sack him instantly. Shitty Luton prick
This is my big issue with him
People keep saying he needs a couple of windows to get his squad.
Why did he spend this last window just getting in people he knew, don't tell me there was better options out there than, A.Campbell, Hylton, Potts.
He was just giving jobs to mates and completely wasted a window.
You have a whole scouting department and he came in with plenty of time to prepare for the summer, don't tell me the best he could come with was players he once managed 🤦🤦

Exactly this.
We keep a revolving door of sort of alright lower league managers whilst having poor recruitment and owners trying be clever and prove they can succeed on the cheap.
Until we sort investment and recruitment the manager doesn't matter.
I like Jones, but the way he setting the side up his massive worry, it is such a negative manner.. just isn’t a modern manager that we need. Lose at the weekend, then he has to go! Done with watch this lump it football and not winning! It’s bad enough watching it when you win!

In some ways that sums up being a football supporter. Other than the odd joyous blip.
Now only 6 points from the next two (league) games will get it back up. I will pissed off if he is focusing on the cups.
@NorthheathAddick 10/10

Depressing times.
him instantly. Shitty Luton prick
The style of football is dire and it doesn't help that he's a bit of a knob

Said it from the moment he brought him on against Wrexham. We went from a league one team to a non-league team. Mates rates. Its fucking scandalous.
We keep a revolving door of sort of alright lower league managers whilst having poor recruitment and owners trying be clever and prove they can succeed on the cheap.

If we sack him we are fucked.
Methven and Scott are the ones who need replacing before we can move forward
What on earth does it matter if he'd have been good five years ago.
But sadly we are only attractive to chancers and spivs so it’s a case of meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
I personally think the future looks bleak and can see us getting into some serious trouble both on and off the pitch
But I don’t want him sacked and we start yet another cycle.
We were in the Championship
Hylton scored 0 goals in 11 for Luton in the Championship, doubt he would have been a terrific signing for us Nathan 😂😂
Maybe 7/8 years ago when he scored 20+ goals in League 1 for Luton but he was 27/28 back then lol
there is nothing absolutely zero to give us hope or indication that he can or will improve going forward
