January Transfer Window (rumours + actuals)

It's been a long long time since I started a thread, but as December is fast approaching, meaning just 5 weeks till the window opens, I thought I'd start it.
We all know, I guess, what were sadly missing, so let's hope we get what we need. This League is slowly killing us. Over to you, to the ITK's and those who have heard things on the grapevine (not our friendly poster!)

Think the more important question is who would we be looking to move out.
  • The other site is saying we have asked about taking Ali Al Hamadi on loan I believe and the poster has a good track into this ownership so has got things right before. AAH is also at Ipswich and we can't get through a window without one of theirs.

Wasn't there a midfielder in the summer we were linked with in Europe who we were going to keep tabs first half of this season... Albeit I think he was CDM!!

Hylton and Potts contracts will be running out so that's an easy saving. I expect Hylton will get an extension though. The rest are hard to shift because they were newly purchased in the summer on the whole

What do we want / need? What is the budget?

For me we would need in touch with the playoffs to make some moves worthwhile.

It appears to me that Dan Potts isn't fit and could be let go in January , so will we be looking for a LCB?.If so would Sonny Bradley be available? He hasn't been in Derby's starting line up.

Personally I would like a keeper still. Anyone got any ideas? Sinisalo hasn't played for Celtic yet. Could we try a loan bid?

I was also impressed with Harvey Vale in the Chelsea U21 game as a creative option. Could we try a loan bid?

Al Hamadi on the bench at Portman Rd this afternoon.

We need a keeper, a LCB and at least 3 creative players, I don't care if they're "number 10's" or wingers or a combination of both, the absolute biggest problem we have is not creating enough good chances to score from that then cover for slightly shoddy defending or strikers needing 2 or 3 attempts to score a goal.

Outs, Hylton, Potts, Asiimwe back out on loan, try and recoup any money we can for Edun

We need to use the loan market . Young , Hungry , creative players from the premier league or even the Championship . No has beens , no ex Luton cloggers .

  • When have we ever come out of a January window notably stronger? I don't expect much and we could lose Leaburn.
  • Goalkeeper - Left Centre-Back - Right-Back (Loan) - Creative Midfielder to play along and challenge Anderson / Berry - Pacey winger.

Need more alt. options other than T.Campbell and Dixon.

Outs: Hylton - Potts - Asiimwe - Edun

I totally agree with this. The AAH rumour is interesting, did he play with Gasman when at Ipswich? I'm afraid I don't know.
PL loans for me also in the Rak-Saki mould, with a Gallagher or Cullen to line up alongside Coventry and or Taylor.

I honestly don't think we'll have many coming through the door. He'll move on a few and that will be it.

    Last season, probably.

Also the season we signed a bunch of randoms from across the world to try and keep us up, Suk-Young, Motta, Fanni, Teixeira all joined in January I'm fairly sure

I dont like the idea of Al-Hamadi simply because its another Ipswich loan.

They keep pulling our pants down, our scouting options need to be better - Said it on another thread yesterday, but we need to be looking for the next Ramsay / Small type individuals, even the Edwards of the world, from North of the Border

Players that are being released from Academies or that are in League One / League Two already and looking to continue building their reputations having already been released from Academies

Need some hungry individuals who want to continue their upward trajectory with their career, rather than someone on the slide downwards, and losing that desire... Bored of us been transfixed with players with decent CVs already, instead why cant we be the ones they do that with... Decent scouting can find those players, rather than just being starstruck with what they've already done.

...is a good answer. Not sure how much we'd recoup or save by doing that, though. Leaburn to go for a song to the sort of Championship side we should be, but aren't, competing against would be my best guess.

Don't care anymore. We all know what we need but we wont get them. Will be more moving deckchairs with a couple of players leaving (on loan- no one wants our dross) being replaced with the usual inept PL loanees or players at the twilight of their careers.

Highlight this post & re-visit again in February.

  • I would look to loan Kanu. Can’t see him getting much game time or forcing himself into the starting 11 each week

Hylton was taken on as player/coach. So keep him as a coach, he can teach the youngsters about 'shithousery', just don't put him in the matchday squad, put Dixon there.

Is that wise, given how we already thought we wouldnt have to rely on Hylton too much

Anyone who is a player/coach is unlikely to have much experience of coaching. I know that everyone has to start somewhere, but I think we'd benefit from an experienced coach to focus on the 'strikers'. I'd be happier if we got shot and got someone else in.

Forget that he has played mainly LB, I think he is the best ball-carrying midfielder we have. Perhaps we need better (Wiredu, Aasgard) but lets replace him before we get rid.

Would rather see Asiimwe as RB rather than  Zach, AM, or Reg, none of whom are proper FBs. The latter two are hoof merchants.
  • We won’t be spending, so all we can hope for is a couple of good quality loans. They’ll need to be quite spectacularly good to effect our season though.

More Luton players to come onboard
A Derek Hales wouldn’t go a miss , but then I wouldn’t put Nathan Jones knowledge any where near Theo Foleys .

Ali Al Hamadi would easily have championship interest. No chance he drops to league 1, and if he did there would be a queue of clubs and I don’t think we’d win the battle

Any club loaning out a player will look at the style of football we play and probably pick another club

Hope you're wrong mate. It's time for some radical changes to the squad, that'll cost!

What we need - flair, creativity and pace in midfield and out wide.

What I’m expecting - a bald hard man no nonsense CB and a defensive midfielder who’d two foot his mum and has tattoos. Both are current or former Luton players.
