If he could be persuaded to come south and the long term project might attract him to do so, then I would like to see Nigel Clough. Numerous promotions to his name, invariably on a shoestring including getting Burton to the Championship for two seasons on crowds of less than 7,000. People might argue that his stays at Sheffield United and Derby weren't as successful but he took the former to the F A Cup semi and was the longest serving manager at Derby for over a decade. You don't get to manage for almost 26 years (apart from two spells of six months off) unless you have something about you.
We play his Mansfield in ten days time and they are currently two points above us with a game in hand so that might be the time to have that conversation if things go on as they have. There is one other reason for employing Clough though. Like his old man, he won't take empty rhetoric from anyone and that includes the Board. Perhaps that's the very reason why he might turn us down or, more to the point, they might not even interview him in the first place.

Couldn't give a rat's arse. Whoever is manager still has to get a tune out of this rabble......no width, no guile, no trickery & no creativity. Can't see the owners stumping up a few million for yet another squad rebuild so we are stick with what we have (apart from a few loans in January)
There are very few actual managers who are worth a light. The rest are just charlatans with coaching badges that are not worth the paper they are printed on.

Plenty of MUCH worse jobs out there. We have a reasonable budget for this level, decent facilities and good academy players coming through. I agree that this might well be the stumbling block but we won't know if we don't ask. I also think that depends on two things - his children would have been the motivation to stay previously but they are grown up now and whether he has an inclination, at the age of 58, to engage in the sort of project at a club of our potential and to demonstrate. After all, how many other clubs in our division have been in the Premier League or have the "potential" to return? That does assume that the regime genuinely have those ambitions but he isn't the sort of chap to suffer fools gladly and will soon recognise bullshit when he hears it. I am with Beds addick on this. Chris Powell has had success with us as a player and a manager and his man management skills are aamongst the best. We need someone who can build a team and motivate. We currently have players that don't relate to one annother on the pitch and after last night i doubt whether they would do so off the pitch. Nathan Jones' shouting and screaming and over emotional displays do not help in that. I would sooner have a manàger who celebrated success by hanging off the crossbar than one who beat his chest in a "look at me" moment after beating the leagues bottom club by one goal against ten men.
The difference is in the charcter of the individual. Powell put together a talented team who out performed their individual capabilities and made them better players. Jones appears to have made talented youngsters worse and added a few of his old underperforming friends to the mix to make a bad situation worse. We have not improved as a team since he joined.
Curbs as director of football, most would bite your hand off but he would only do it if he could work with the manager, and it would take a special manager to convince him it would be a good idea to come out of retirement. Powell, Bowyer might be the only two that could achieve that.
A Powell & Curbs combination would give the SMT some time since the supporters would understand that Rome wasnt built in a day but can be demolished by a performance like yesterday's2 -
I'd take Bowyer back just for the post-match interviews3

I want somebody fresh. Nobody who’s even hinted at being on the merry go round (Adkins, jones, Appleton). We need somebody hungry to succeed, fresh and determined , not somebody who has been about who has the perception (and ego) of being a supposedly experienced manager.with the exception of Chris Powell.1

As things stand Methven and Scott are running things and I wouldn't trust them to appoint anyone who's any good.
Bring in a new SMT to replace these chancers and hopefully they will appoint a decent manager and give him the backing he will need.3 -

Personally I think we should work out way backwards through previous managers and give them the same amount of time in the job as they had first time round (regardless of results). Appleton next, then Holden etc etc.2
