When I saw the title I thought of George Lawrence.

The spanners used to call him this, @MillwallFan will be able to confirm.
    Yes. I thought the same.
I stand to be corrected but I thought the original Chicken George down the Den was one Trevor Lee, who was signed with Phil Walker from Epsom & Ewell in the mid-70s.
Not that I know of. Was always George Lawrence. He had the nickname at all his clubs not just Millwall apparently. From a character from tv series Roots

"I never watch the food programmes because meat and fish alienate me".

But loves a thread called Chicken George about a fried chicken shop that sells fried chicken.
    'Loves'?
    How so?
It is a thread about the fan area behind the West Stand isn't it?
No. It's a thread about the "Chicken George" outlet. The (BIG) clue is literally in the title of the thread.

    Merry Christmas.

His nickname orginated in SE14, of that I am certain.

The big clue is in the first question posed.

Look, I know you'll try to argue that night is day sometimes, but it really isn't. The first question posed is "When did Chicken George bail out?"

Have the rest of the day off.

    Merry Christmas.

Wrong, Southampton fans first gave it to him, before he came to us

This brought back a great memory to me. Years ago school friend persuaded me to come to a Millwall home game as Charlton were away. It was in the old 1st Division and George Lawrence was on the bench for Millwall. They weren't playing too well and few of the crowd in front on me kept shouting ''Bring on Chicken George, bring him on'. He came on shortly, his first touch gave the ball away. Millwall fans then shouting ''get that useless C---t off!  Really great humour down there in those days, think Terry Hurlock was in that team, took no prisioners!
