If we're going to bring in a CAM for me it would be someone that's an instant starter over Berry.2

Yeah, Knibbs, Smith and Wing (as well as Bindon) all possible departures from Reading this January and all decent players who would improve our squad imo.8 -
Spot on, I was literally jumping up and down in my roomCallumcafc said:
What’s the implication here? Do you have issues with the money our owners have spent so far?Braziliance said:On that note, Huddersfield just signed a player for a fee in the window where money can't be spent.

From the Dutch top flight as well. That's what billionaire owners do.
Post comes across like a kid having a moan that another kid a few doors down got their Christmas presents a few days early. You have no idea if he’s any good!
Maybe let’s wait until Feb 1 to see how much we do or don’t spend ourselves.4 -

Rewind a year and the same post was about Carlisle doing their business early. The same Carlisle that are heading towards non leagueCallumcafc said:

I was concerned that we wasn't spending in January, when buying players of quality could have made relegation less of a reality. Carlisle signed players that on paper, should have improved them. It didn't work, but at least they tried, we relied on other teams shitting the bed other than 2 very big wins.
We stayed up last year cause the teams below us couldn't buy a win, not our own form where we won 1 out of our last 5. Had we signed better players, we could have stayed up more comfortably, and had players ready for this season.

Sorry but I am with Ronnie on this one. A couple of reasons, the sale of Alfie May, are you now saying Southlincs that the sale of Alfie May was the responsibility of Andy Scott, because if you are then there are about a thousand posts on here that would disagree with that stand point. Have a look at the players brought in by Jones, Ramsay and Small being the first two, then Allan Campbell, Luke Berry and lastly Danny Hylton, all of those players played for Nathan Jones at other clubs, he's also brought coaching staff in who have worked with him before. So it's 1-0 to Ronnie on this one.SouthLincsAddick said:
Utter rubbish. If you’re right this SMT have offloaded all accountability onto Jones. That is extremely weak leadership and smacks of self preservation above success of the club. That is so damaging, taking big salaries but having no accountability. Shameful!RonnieMoore said:
Scott does not chose the players we sign thars 100% down to Jones nowSouthLincsAddick said:
And yet signing Championship rejects seems to be Andy Scott’s only strategy, leading to two of the most disappointing seasons in our recent history.Braziliance said:I had a ramble about it on the Charlton podcast, Charlton Chronicles, the one thing I don't want to see is us signing championship players. Unless it's a loan who is hungry to break into the team to be acknowledged by his parent club.
Whenever we sign these championship rejects, they usually fail to deliver. All our best business in league1 recently, has mainly been picking up standout players for a cheap fee from clubs around us or below.
Alfie May, CBT, the snake, Lloyd Jones, Ricky Holmes, Dobson.
I don't know what these scouts and recruitment specialists are paid to do, but I question their experience and football knowledge. Cause if we have one of the highest budgets in the league, and we can't identify the best players in this league then we have some serious issues.
Far too much cash splunked on has beens and players who don't have the character to play for this club.4 -
Aasgard? Nearly out of contract.3

I like the idea but suspect Peterborough will want too much for him. Apparently rejected £1.5m in the summer. Not a fan of doing business with Peterborough in general, feels like you rarely ever get the better end of any deal there.MarcusH26 said:Joel Randall not involved at all for Posh today.... I love the names being thrown about that would improve us. Sadly Jones doesn’t want to get new faces in and is quite happy with what he’s got. We’ll see a couple of loans to plug gaps but nothing building towards a better squad.1

Think Fergie Jr wants shot for attitude reasons so could be one to avoid anyway. However him going to Bolton could free up Aaron Collins....0 -
Luton connection, how is cauley Woodrow doing, always liked him as a player1

Despite our plethora of strikers we lack any depth for TC's current role. We need one another one that can play up front but pull wide and attack the channel. Our new shape is dependent on that width and we don't currently have another senior player who can do it.

I’ve thought the same. Godden very much a poacher. Kanu will press and run the channels, but doesn’t have the same technical ability that TC offers. Ahadme, Aneke and Hylton for obvious reasons aren’t the answer in that role.Chunes said:Despite our plethora of striker we need one who can play TC's role, playing up front but pulling out wide and playing the channel effectively. Dixon is the closest outside the first team, but I’m not convinced he’s ready yet from the bits I’ve seen.1 -
I think in Charlie's interview that there may be one or two that could be brought in and I'd agree with you Shooter's that it may be a couple of loans. Before that happens though players must be moved on from this top heavy squad, highly unlikely for permanents out in the January window, but loans out, maybe.ShootersHillGuru said:I love the names being thrown about that would improve us. What about Malcolm Ebiowei?
A young Nigel ( former Derby ) who is on loan at Oxford although he hasn't been used much there. Apparently they want to recall him.
A quick Left footed forward who can play wide , so offers something different to what we have.2 -
If there is a type of player that PL academies produce by the bucketload at the moment, it's attacking wide forwards/wingers, so we really ought to be able to find someone suitable.2
-
I still think Jones' first priority is a 'keeper.
Because if either AMB or Mannion are injured, we end up with a 16 year old on the bench...
To be clear, I think Mannion is a future number 1, but it won't hurt for him to learn from an older head for a season or 2. He's quite young for a 'keeper.6 -

Problem is no PL team is going to send a promising winger to a team that doesn’t play with wingers. They will want guaranteed football for their player, and in the right positionkillerandflash said:If there is a type of player that PL academies produce by the bucketload at the moment, it's attacking wide forwards/wingers, so we really ought to be able to find someone suitable.1 -
I think GK is quite hard to do in January, especially one with experience. No one wants to lose their first choice keeper half way through the seasonSteveACS said:I still think Jones' first priority is a 'keeper.

I’d say our first priority should be a LCB to upgrade on Gillesphey and replace Potts’ place in the squad. After that it’s probably an attacking midfielder with a bit of pace that can take players on and maybe a RWB option

We need a top class keeper
Someone to compete with Berry
A wide player to compete with Campbell
Assimwe out on Loan
Edun to be sold
Dt keep potts
Loan out Amb if we got a new keeper
If tennai Watson gets fit Loan or sell
If some kind of deal can be done finish up Chuks
A Campbell probably needs to hang around as cover
Be great to get Jones and small signed up0 -
Even if Jones getting signed up on a new deal is the only thing to happen on this listlolwray said:We need a top class keeper

One of my mates is a Notts County fan, and he said 3 weeks ago that he’d heard Crowley was coming to us.18

Three assists and one goal in his last three appearances.
10 “goal involvements” (goals and assists) in 16 appearances so far this season. 25 g+a in 46 appearances last season.
He tends to play slightly right of centre which would dove tail well with Leaburn and TC as an alternative to Luke Berry.8 -
My son tells me there has been 3 bids rejected today for Lloyd Jones.0
-
Not sure about Crowley as a signing... Surprised he's ended up in League Two, even with Notts County spending money, he's had a few suspect clubs (eg Morecambe) for his age in recent seasons.
Why has he kept going backwards0
