Ref should have called it off 4 hours earlier to give people a chance, absolutely dreadful decision.
Have to say as well, in all my years driving, that's been the worst conditions I've driven in I can remember.
I saw the aftermath of one accident, I think I saw traffic cause of a local-ish one, and was nearly part of one where another driver was driving erratically which caused a car near me to slightly swerve.
I genuinely can't stand people who drive like twats in these conditions. You save seconds to at best minutes and it's so risky.
I never normally do it but I actually had a go at one driver today. Felt a bit bad afterwards but it winds me up how people don't consider others in their cars or the cars they're driving near.
It's something ridiculous like a 30% increase of a car fatality in even light rain and people swerve and undercut in torrential rains.
75% of weather conditions related accidents occur cause of rain, and 45% + happen during rainfall.
Sorry for the rant but I couldn't believe some of the state of the driving I saw today, winds me right up. Just added to my anger with the postponement2 -
That pitch is a shocker. No wonder it got called off. Looks more like a swimming pool.12 -

I don't remember leaving, thinking "all part of the game, I've played in worse" etc.
Be careful what you wish for, some of you...
There was the FA Cup match in the late 80s at The Hawthorns where it pissed down all day (and I'm sure the urinals in the away end didn't have a roof) with big puddles in the pitch but the match went ahead.
Lower league West Brom turned over top flight Charlton (for the benefit of the MoTD cameras, probably why the game didn't get called off) with a goalmouth puddle helping the Baggies.4 -

The referees at this level are absolute shite even with no match to officiate
Whatever time that chump got to the ground it was blindingly obvious the match wouldn’t be completed with the worsening deluge on the saturated pitch
That guff about ‘giving the groundstaff every chance to get the pitch playable’ is wretched insulting bullshit
Gill dropped a bollock and is spinning total horse shit in the vain hope of covering his worthless arse Either that or he couldn’t be arsed to get there at a decent time
As bad as that prancing ninny Andy D’Urso who fucked us over on a chilly Boxing Day a few years back (teenagers ask your Dad)
The football league will let it slide of course because the only “stakeholders” 🤮 who are inconvenienced are we supporters about whom football authorities do not give one single fuck
We should en masse send expense claims to EFL like we would to train companies when they balls up their services.1 -

Surely you start the match & then abandon it if needs be.
I politely told her that it wasn't mine or Charlton s fault the game was called off it was down to the Weather and the Ref.
She was still abusing me as her husband took her away.
Bloody Norverners
Ever the gentleman eh Rambo.

The only game I’ve gone to before that was called off when I got there was Selhurst Park for I think a home match possibly NYD against Wimbledon or West Ham , so late 80’s0

I recall a boxing day game at home at Southampton where we got out of the car at Macros and was told it was off and got straight back in again.5

But...as gutting as it was to lose (and it was yet another kick in the guts during a mega-tough season) it was a memorable game with plenty of action.
I certainly get the frustration about the late call-off, but you know, this sort of incident is going to be more common. I was listening this morning to news of floods near Manchester which -unlike the previous two incidents - the weather forecaster failed to call. And now it's turned to ice apparently.1 -
Luckily I only live a town over so Pulled up to the car park and the bloke next to us just got a text telling him the game was off so back home we went, bit shit as the kids were hyped up, but it is what it is. Really could have done with being called off an hour earlier.1

Peterborough away last year. Drive 3.5 hours, parked, got out of the car, got told, got back in the car, drove 3.5 hours home.3
-
If the threshold for calling games off was made lower to do it earlier, there would be quite a few more called off each season, and that would make three or four game weeks even more common, which isn't really going to work unless something else is done to smooth it out (like extending the season a couple weeks, or thinning out the amount of games by reducing the number of teams within it) which brings its own problems of course.0

Highlights of the game if anyone is interested, Mainly the ref kicking the ball around half heartedly
