It probably isn't, but all NJ's utterances over squad strength and transfers could be a ploy. Firstly to boost our squads morale/mental strength and secondly to say to other clubs we aren't desperate.

Lloyd Jones signing a new contract is more important than any new signings this month. If we are to go up next season we need to build on this one, and keeping Jones is key to that

Lloyd Jones signing a new contract is AS important as new signings this month. Small is still out of contract, Leaburn will still be sold if the right bid comes in during the Summer. If the club hierarchy feel that we still have a chance of the play-offs then a loan or two makes sense as they can't be recalled or alternatively the purchase of a ready to go play maker and striker.
If not then the better option to be look at building the squad for next season with younger players able to play at part soon EG Ramsay and signing new deals for L Jones and Small.

If you ask anyone involved or even interested in football they will tell you that January is a nightmare window to buy in. Our recruitment is terrible most windows, with probably a 50% hit rate (we signed Gillesphey and REG for decent fees last January)supaclive said:

Small is exactly the kind of deal we should look to do in January. Short term and Low risk, with potential to extend further. In terms of us dropping decent fees on players this month, it’s not realistic and probably not a good strategyLook at other successful clubs and they get things done in the summers and then add a little in January to cover injuries or add that extra bit of quality to get over the line. If our recruitment is to improve, spending money in January rather than the summer is not the way to go about it0 -

Nonsensical to not add players in this window - we have too much shite to get rid of and a lot of players to bring in to do it all in the summer. That’s without having to replace Leaburn, Small & Jones who may all be off.1

Investment hasn't really been the problem (at this level), it's the lack is quality that the investment actually bought. We had a dreadful last season based on the season ending position, BUT, we had the golden boot striker and his counterpart in midfield. This season without those two, was always going to be tough. That we are currently in a 'slightly' higher league position, even allowing for them having left, means that we are in a 'slightly' better overall team state, than might have been feared. BUT, we are still way off competing for the promotion spots. So despite Jones and SMT talking about long term this and that, the reality is the investment (signing players and Manager) were i expect, viewed as what was needed to provide the resources for a promotion push, but, they haven't actually made much of a difference.
