Does the window close tomorrow at 11?
No.  Closes Monday 3rd at 23:00.
It doesn't close. It slams shut.
Either way, mods need to change the thread title. I'm being cheated out of three days of excitement.
  • Same old soundbites but very little action.

Funny how every single other League 1 side (bar 1) can sign a player without having to wait for other teams to do their business first so that they can release a player to us.

Don't worry, people seem excited that we are now finding ways to get rid of the poor signings we shouldn't have made in the first place and giving credit for it.

They've got a few days, but other than Lloyd Jones extension, this has been tragic. If we don't sign a player I'll be miffed.
There has to be a midfielder coming in .

This window is starting to feel very Roland-esque, governed spreadsheet wise by squad numbers meaning we can’t bring a player in until we offload one like Brandon Hanson or Mikhail Kennedy to some non-league club
I think the players gone are certainly the right ones AFKA, and if we do bring one or two in then I want to be the right ones, by that I mean players who are a cut above what we have, not players who were nowhere near their respective first team's, such as Ladapo and Bakinson, both had seen better days and unlikely to see them again.
Bakinson has made 18 appearances for promotion chasing Wycombe btw…
Every team has weak links. Josh Parker made 10 appearances for us when we got promoted. Wouldn't have Bakinson back and 18 appearances for Wycombe doesn't change that.
I thought that Bakinson was a better option than Allan Campbell but neither were a step up from where we were, water carriers, not players who will influence the game.
  • The next 3 days are getting very crucial now…🤦
  • If it was necessary to clear out some unwanted players to balance the budget, and then have to wait in order to get the right players and the right price, the it’s absolutely the right thing to be doing. Good transfer business is always about getting the right players for the right price. Not just any old players for whatever the asking price is. We’ve signed players for the sake of it too often and they rarely pay off. And all clubs, except maybe Man City, have a budget and have to manage ins and outs within that budget. The club is, unfortunately, operating in reality not in some fan’s fantasy. It’s not like results have been suffering while we wait.

Time will tell what business we do and how good it is, but just because we haven’t signed anyone it doesn’t mean we’re messing the transfer window up. There’s still several day left, judge it when it’s done.

Also, everyone always assume that every signing another team makes works out, but just because some of these other clubs have done lots of business doesn’t mean they’ve signed good players that will improve them.

    Quality not quantity

Your not my area manager are you ?

In the absence of any rumours...
Only one outfield player v. Man Utd in the cup still with us.

Blimey I thought Stockley was long gone by then. Funny how the memory plays tricks!
  • It's quite a contrast between this January and last January, when we hadn't won a game for ages but were making multiple signings (Coventry, Gillesphey, Edmonds-Green, Ramsay). This year we're doing better on the pitch, but haven't brought anyone in – it would definitely be a missed opportunity not to do that when we're in a good position to make a play-off push.

Hope we get the lad from Boro on loan. Their fans on twitter saying he is way too good for league 1 and should be given a chance for them in the champ
Think he's probably unfortunate they've gone and spent £7m on Morgan Whittaker , sounds like a very promising player if we can get him.
  • Names of prospective signings are now being kept secret.

Very little information is being released by the club, and Nathan Jones is now keeping his cards very close to his chest.

What a change from previous windows when everyone and their dog knew who we were interested in before long before any signings had been made.
So have you been told that or are you assuming?
  • On the basis that NJ prefers perms to loans I’m hoping Alex Gilbert signs for us permanently.

Would be a good statement of intent if the club paid £500k + add ons to sign him

We missed out on Aaron Collins last season (& JCH the year before). One year the SMT have to deliver the goods.

Should we be receptive to cash in by possibly selling Miles now, whilst he is still in contract? He has so much potential but we need an effective striker this month and onwards. Should we be gambling potential against using the funds to buy an older finished product?.

Admittedly its all a bit theoretical currently as I wouldn't imagine we would be getting big offers while he is in a quiet patch, unless a big club is prepared to gamble to buy that potential.

If scouts have been watching him since his return then I’m pretty sure his last game will have confirmed that they need to keep tabs til the end of the season before making an offer - jury still very much out in my opinion

I think he goes in the summer, I only realised recently that his contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2026. Personally think he has great ability in certain areas but also glaring weaknesses that will hold him back if he doesn't address them. If we can consistently get the Godden from Tuesday night I don't think Miles will get in the team often anyway so should a big offer come in I'd consider it IF we can replace him with what you described.

They are just half the ingredients that are required.

Being motivated for L1/League below is another story. We've had this from Arter to Allan Campbell, aswell as several 'short term' signings.

I've learnt the hard way; to judge come match day and beyond.

What do you see as Leaburn’s glaring weakness? I’d say he’s more well rounded than most young strikers, and it’s more a case of consistency with his hold up play and doing better in the air considering his height, and improving little things like getting that bit fitter, adding a bit more aggression at times, none of which is unusual for a young player.

It’ll be interesting to see if Godden can keep his place. I think there will be games when we need more physicality up front, and Leaburn at some point will grab a goal or two and show why there’s not much between them.

To be fair to NJ, that is something that he genuinely is pretty good at spotting/instilling in players. Quality is debatable maybe over some signings but even in the bad patch I can't recall any players coasting along Gunther/Matthews style just picking up a paycheck for minimum effort.
