Couple of days ago Crawley said the Dale rumours were not true ?
You’re thinking of Moxon, and Cawley.
Cawley hasn’t tweeted about Owen Dale in over two years.

I don't get this £8-10m loss in League One as a justification to spend.

According to this article (albeit 2 years old)  "The average pre-tax deficit for the 19 clubs has so far been a smidgen over £20million" (not all accounts were submitted at the time).  There is every chance that getting promoted would = greater costs (wages to be competitive). https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/4457610/2023/04/28/championship-finances-broken/

Hence I don't get the argument that you spend money now to save money next year

To be clear, I absolutely want us to get promoted and out of this shit league, but should be done sustainably and with an eye for future squad growth (for which we did pretty well last Jan with Ramsey and Small joining)

My favourite was when he was like 'guess the next signing and I'll give you VIP tickets' and the next signing was one of the Matt Smiths.

Or was he taking about Moxon ?
Surely you don't need Cawley for your information?

Just been informed that Owen Dale is a done deal
Would be happy if true, versatile enough to cover a couple of players but not so good that he’ll stop someone like TC developing

Don't care anymore. We all know what we need but we wont get them. Will be more moving deckchairs with a couple of players leaving (on loan- no one wants our dross) being replaced with the usual inept PL loanees or players at the twilight of their careers.

Highlight this post & re-visit again in February.
Posted this on the 1st page of this thread.

For once.....just for once, I'd like to be wrong and to be eating humble 🥧 at 11pm tonight.
    You were wrong.

I thought the left sided partnership with Kirk was Pickering?

Yeah was Dale off the right and Kirk and Pickering off the left.

Strange one as I’m not sure how he fits in our system

He's a winger, and we only really have one natural winger in the squad.

Tbf at least he can play football, I question how 90% of our players over the last decade even qualify as footballers.

If this is true, I think this is a really nice pick up.

(Prepares for him to be as shite as Charlie Kirk)

A great example of arriving late at the far post to nod in a late rumour/signing.

I don’t think it can be a good window unless we get someone to replace Gillesphey. We can’t keep relying on a defender that is makes mistakes as constantly as he does.
Not sure what I swore more at when watching the highlights on Saturday.  Gillesphey’s disaster of trying to bring the ball down…or the commentator saying it was “an uncharacteristic error from Gillesphey” 🤦🏻‍♂️🫣🤬🤬
Funny you pick out his one and only mistake yet fail to mention the two tackles he made first half that stopped goalscoring chances … plus in past few weeks Jones and Mitchell have also made errors that resulted in goals yet don’t see anything said about them !!
Gillesphey has played consistently well since the return of Lloyd Jones and would have got my man of the match on Saturday had it not been for that mistake. Ramsay was culpable for not closing and showing the forward wide, not inside for the first, but no one wants to criticise him. If Gillesphey heads it up into the air, do they score maybe, maybe not. Overall the team played well against a strong physical side.

Dale has lovely tekkers and isn't afraid to try things. But he's one of those players who I worry our fans won't warm to. He's a bit of a lightweight.

Dale would be a good addition for a squad, but being injured until mid February is not ideal.    That's probably match fit by early March.

Oxford are releasing Kyle Edwards. Is it possible that it's him rather than Dale that is coming in? Ex West Brom and Ipswich winger.

From memory Dale always looked a threat going forward for Crewe and Oxford.

Don't know enough about his work rate/defending to know if he fits in a Jones side.

It is not sustainable to lose £8-10m in this division once the billionaires get bored of us.

They didn't buy us to keep us in this division..   The goal is to get us to top half Championship.  They may potentially do this by adding some quality in this window - next season there is only one thing certain if we stay in League 1 - we will lose another £8-10m.

Tbf Owen Dale is one of those names you felt was destined to sign for Charlton at some point in their career. A bit like a Jayden Stockley or Jake Forster-Caskey.

Highlights from his time at Crewe, nearly a 4 year old video but gives an idea of the type of player he is.

FM suggests he’s mainly a winger but played WB and up front, but given he’s not a natural defender like Small I think he’d be an alternative to TC.

How quick is Dale? Presumably he'd be an alternative wingback/winger option on the right so we're not so reliant on Small. He'd have to be bloody quick for that to be worthwhile though as he's not typically a wingback and he'd be going on the outside which would affect our current inverted wingers plan, though I understand he's not bad with his left. Could be being brought in to go up front and pull wide to the left and cut in, though he feels more like an alternative to Small than TC by the sounds of things. Having said that, we sat through half a season of Charlie Kirk being thrown in as a striker so anything's possible. Dale also made his debut coming on as a sub for Charlie Kirk at Crewe, so that will warm people to him..
