Bit of a crossover here. Mate of mine is one of the few remaining on the Volunteer consortium, just got out of hospital due to someone putting a shotgun cartridge through his foot at JJ’s.
You need to tell your mate that he needs to get a grip of the Volly. A fair few weeks since I have been in there, and I was hearing rumours that it had become drug city. Went in there last night and it was grim. The few in there were openly dealing, and also quite comfortable taking it off their hands. A few people walked in and walked straight back out. As I said earlier in the thread, it has thrived on the reputation of being a nice local .............. but it was far from that last night.
To be fair, he is more concerned about his lack of a foot at the moment. Think he is looking for an out, and don’t be surprised if it doesn’t last the year out.
Ok - once his foot is sorted, tell him to sort my local out. In all seriousness a lot of chit chat circulating about whether the co-operative still have their hearts in it. Shame if it does go - but I know where my money is.

Yeah that was a bad ruck that one. I had left a couple of hours before - people got seriously hurt. I guess you knew the guy who had his leg broken?

Held my Daughter's 18th birthday party in there (upstairs) back in Sept., and it was a nightmare to organise due to the incompetence of the landlord. He apologised to me immediately after the party, blaming the brewery for kicking him out.....building sold for other purposes I believe.

I loved "The Lads of the Village"/later "The Barrier Arms." Great music nights (discos as we called them).
Could walk to the Barrier and have a pint in many of the long gone watering holes on the way, prior to a good long session in the Barrier Arms with Rick the DJ!
Loved the "Derby Arms" a few minutes walk along, and in the late 70s "The Lord Howick" too.
I was in the Morden Arms in Greenwich recently after a home match. Looks closed from the outside but is a decent boozer
Liked it in there when we used to go to Greenwich quite often...called it the pub with no name. Mate lives in Lewisham and still pops in there now and then.

Regular music at weekends so I'm often there. They've just started taking card payments. Regularly seen groups of tourists come in - walk to the bar then walk out again when they found it was cash only.
