Used to use the Raglan quite a bit in the 80’s. A stop off on the way home from an away game, with @TelMc32.
Remember one day parking up on Burrage Road and going to the game. Walking pasted in the evening on the way to the pub (after being on the beer for most of the day)  and said to the car to start and it didn’t. When I finally got home and asked what time do you call this? I said that the car wouldn’t start, so we went to the pub.
  • On a similar theme, and going in the other direction from Eltham Hill towards Lewisham there was a proliferation of pubs in Lee, all pretty much in stumbling distance of each other - The two Tiger's Heads, the Prince Arthur and Duke of Edinburgh within a couple of hundred yards of each other - The Swan, The Greyhound and the Royal Oak all on one short street within spitting distance of The Dacre Arms and The Woodman.

this was in the late 80's / Early 90s:-

    New Tigers Head (gone)
    Old Tigers Head (maybe gone)
    Prince Arthur (gone)
    Duke of Edinburgh (still there)
    The Swan (now a bar)
    The Greyhound (gone)
    The Royal Oak (gone)
    The Dacre Arms (still there)
    The Woodman (gone)
And after the Woodman there was Sports (Rose of Lee) Mrs H lived around the corner from The Rose of Lee when I first met her (1987) been in all of the above except the New Tigers Head.
The OTH re-opened last Thursday.  A friend of some friends of mine, Rob, is now running it.

He's put real ale back in and is doing reasonable food - the Sunday roast was great.  He's priced it to under-cut the Northbrook.
From memory…..shouldn’t be too difficult to undercut the Northbrook. Was pretty trumpy.

Does the Tigers still have sports? Much preferable option than Blackheath. Prefer the relaxed vibe of the tigers compared to more formal station or northbrook.

The one ting that is proving controversial is that he's only planning to show rugby.  He has a formula that's turned around a lot of other pubs, so he's pretty adamant about that.

He's running live music every Saturday night but has to have a noise limiter in the room.

He's been a bit hamstrung by the previous guys, who apparently were holding rave nights until 4am. The neighbours have their pitchforks out and he's treading round them a bit.

Lived around the corner from The Northbrook 2009-10 before it was done up, was pretty reasonable then though a tad rough around the edges but I liked it and it was a convenient place to meet Mrs H after she finished work....close to the station....the Indian over the road was good as well.

Between you & Tim Derrick, you probably bought the pub by now.
  • A community-run pub in south-east London has been forced to close after their landlord called in "longstanding" rent arrears amounting to more than £50,000.

Kirsty Dunlop, one of three volunteers running the Star of Greenwich pub, said their landlord, the Greenwich Hospital, had asked for the arrears to be paid in full after they granted a repayment plan subject to securing funding to ensure the business' viability.

Greenwich Hospital, which is not a medical institution, is a charity established by the royal charter to support naval personnel and their families, operating independently but under the oversight of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The MoD has been contacted for comment.

    The old Star and Garter.
  • I remember wondering how long it would last at the time it re-opened.

A not-for-profit venture that hasn't been paying rent and still can't break even? Never going to end well was it.
  • A not for profit pub sounds like an accident waiting to happen
  • The Grove Park Tavern finally has planning permission. Be interesting to see what happens next.

nearly £1m to buy the place and probably more than that again to do it up. How that’s viable I don’t know….

Where’s that? Or do you mean the Downham Tavern?

Opposite the station, think actually the official name is Baring Hall Hotel.

Yeah…..that’s the Baring Hall. It’s definitely been dragging on.

Hopefully it can move forward now.

    You not a fan?

  • Been in London with Mrs D and popped in the Daylight at Petts Wood for a nightcap before going home.

Pint of Neckoil and a G&T please squire.

And this is what both were served in.  Plastic glasses on a Sat night at 9pm. Sorry but why?!  To be fair, every other punter had a plastic glass in their hand or on the table in front of them but I didn't get an answer out of the barman when I asked.

£14.20 for the record.  Should I be peeved or are plastic glasses at peak time on a Sat now the norm?

  • If you get a plastic glass the price should be cheaper.

Is that the G&T in the plastic vessel attached to the beer that looks like a handle?

Our band had an afternoon gig there in the car park yesterday afternoon for the switch on of the Christmas lights, Everyone had a plastic glass then. It might have been they had too many of those bloody glasses and they wanted to get rid of them 😀.
  • It looks like something from the baby section in Boots the chemist. Embarrassing to serve expensive drinks in.

Yep, spoke to my neighbour today who is very much invovled with the PWDRA and apparently the pub decided plastic was in order all day due to the large number of expected takeouts, which makes some sense.
