I’m probably in this one. Seats put in early 81?

What's with all the foliage on the terrace? Looks very odd.

War. Very low crowds, limited resources to undertake non essential tasks and other priorities.

Puts to bed the myths, oft repeated, that "there was still room for more" and "the only league ground never filled to capacity" (Pre 1992)

Had the groundsman just reseeded the turf roof? Maybe camouflage to fool the Luftwaffe? If so it didn't work.

THE VALLEY @CAFCofficial #CAFC 1963 Fans make their way along paths cleared in the snow at the Valley turnstiles, 21st January 1963. The heavy snow saw the match between Charlton Athletic and @SouthamptonFC abandoned after 57 minutes

    image

Kick off moved to 2.45pm from 3.00pm due to fuel cuts. Temperature at KO was minus 3 centigrade #cafc were winning 1 - 0 thru' Brian Kinsey when the game was abandoned. Re-arranged game was played 18 May when won 2 - 1 with a late Cliff Durandt long range shot

    ---------

Older fans can confirm but was this the famous Durandt Banana shot goal?

Not really, probably a better view up there than stuck at the back of the East terrace.

it looked dangerously overcrowded. We'll never know exactly how many were there, I've seen 68000 to near 90000 quoted.

Is it weird that I can watch a match from 30 years before I was born and still get pissed off that we lost?
