  • @SouthallAddick not seen that before, thanks. Where did that come from ?
  • I always used to wonder what that mound was behind the old west stand. Just seemed odd that they dug out the side of a hill which then went on to become the ground, but that bit got left there.

remember when they had a full size goal up there?

I always assumed it was spoil from when they first built the ground, or from when the south terrace was reduced down.
  • Jock Campbell I think, and maybe Ronnie Allen (WBA).

  • Who are the two Charlton players marking each other so tightly they look like they're in a three-legged race?

    Now that’s a bit of a mystery? 🤔

It's Huddersfield's Alf Whittingham and our Jock Campbell in the foreground.  I think the pitch suffered during the great Winter of 1947.  By popular opinion, the date of the match is 8 March 1947.

Based on the programme, the back-trackers are likely to be two from Johnson, Phipps and Dawson.  Definitely not Jack Shreeve who I knew when I was growing up.

And, of course, forwards didn't defend in those days.

The above suggestion of Ronnie Allen ... he played for West Brom, not for Huddersfield, and would have been too young anyway.

For the record, we lost 0-3, but finished the season in 19th place ... one place above Huddersfield who did the double over us.

It's a good illustration of just how huge the terracing was at the South end as well as the famous East terrace. Interesting picture.

Also before the Heights End was reduced.
