Maybe all the money spent behind the scenes is working..

Well Scott has been binned off completely and Charlie M and Big Jim are both very sensibly keeping heads well below the parapet and out of view. As long as things keep going well that seems sustainable enough, but I wouldn't say they can take THAT much credit when their main role seems to be taking money off the actual owners and letting Jones get on with his job.
  • No, I’m still not confident about the SMT. One of them has been sacked anyway and rumours have it that another is to go. When we were in relegation form you were very keen to point out all footballing decisions were down to NJ. Now that the football has improved I presume that’s all down to NJ and nothing to do with the SMT. You can’t have it both ways!
NJ didn't appoint himself, so someone or several, either in the SMT or under instruction from the owners, is also deserving of credit for selecting and sticking by him. Who?

And we were told the owners took a more hands on role in the recruitment of NJ. They also reshuffled the board reporting lines just before our upturn in form. From the outside the owners seem to be on the ball. I’m still not convinced about our SMT. One has been sacked, another is reported to be looking for other opportunities and Charlie introduced the whole tech director/head coach system that hired Appleton. The fact that CM tries to distance himself from any bad news is really concerning, we need strong leadership at the club not people who just want to survive.

  • This brilliant theory is a bit like debating whether I’d be comfortable celebrating if my grandma won Olympic 100m gold medal.

Yeah sure, we’d raise a glass to the old girl, but also she’s dead and it’s not going to happen. The two things are fairly closely connected.
Will your grandma be available to collect her medal on Sunday 25th May?
  • Scott was a dud and has gone - coventry and will abbott are the only 2 things i think he can be credited for that were a success. The failures are too long to list.
Rodwell - no idea but gut instinct tells me he's a dud and assume he is the one referred to above as being on his way out.
Methven - gut instinct tells me that he might just have some merit
NJ - the one that really matters and he's coming good
Funds - 2/3 months ago you would be doubting if we actually had a top 4 budget, now i can believe it - Godden for instance now looks like a player who won't have come cheap.

Personally i think the club appears to be in good hands. A run of bad results and some unpopular transfer business and i reserve my right to have a moan but little to moan about right now. I'm optimistic.

  • Personally I’ve always thought the owners were attempting to do a good job for Charlton, now I think with recent results and alterations they have proved that point. However l like many others thought that the senior management team was, how can I put it, not fit for purpose, the reshuffle and sackings probably means that the owners saw the same and disbelieved the feed back from the SMT they received.

They acted after a sensible period which they used to see what if anything needed sorting, by installing a new link back to the owner and cut out some of the bull shit feedback they were receiving. I think and hope that there may even more owner led (not SMT) adjustments to the SMT to come, certainly the owners installing Jones as manager and giving him enough freedom to form his own team was a master stroke worthy of some praise,
  • No promotion this season will be another failure.
It would but at least there are for the first time in a very long time, genuine signs that the club is making progress. We don’t get to see much of what’s going on back of house but the appointments made seem to me to be sensible and certainly there is real progress on the pitch. If we fall short I’m now for the first time in a very long time quite confident that next season there will be further progress made. That for me is key.

Are you saying they didn't deserve criticism for leading us to our worst season in 100 years?

    Yes but, yes but.................

Think the idea is that "we" should maybe be a bit more patient and look at the bigger picture, when brand new ownership and manager come in, instead of piling in at the first opportunity.

Think the issue was with the SMT tbf

I think the point he was raising is that whenever there is a downturn in results or when some negative PR looms there are some posters that re surface posting their doom & gloom but when things are going ok you never hear from them
  • I'm glad nobody listened to me when I had my doubts as I am equally glad that nobody listens to those who differ from what Jones is doing regarding certain players even now!

What was the bigger picture in appointing Appleton? Every bit of criticism they got last season was well and truly deserved for that calamity of a decision alone. Nothing to do with patience, that was just sheer stupidity on their part.
It was poor judgement. They made a mistake. We all do. To err is human. The man who never made a mistake never made anything. The key is to learn from them. We've had past owners who didn't. We now have owners and an SMT who seem to be, which I find reassuring.

Agree with all you say regarding progress being made on the pitch.
My main concern is that if we don't go up this season then players like Ramsay,  Small  and Leaburn will leave.
If that happens we are basically back to square one and looking at another rebuild.
Promotion this season is an absolute must as far as I'm concerned.
Im sorry but this would be the case no matter what owners we have. Ultimately players/agents will be wanting a move away and will be doing all they can to exercise that!

It's concerning but there is a silver lining. If Ramsey leaves it will have to be for good money, and we still have Mitchell to replace him. We won't be able to replace Small that's for sure. Leaburn hasn't hasn't really been our main man this season, so I think we'll be ok. What we'll really need are big upgrades on Berry and Godden, which should be doable.

Disagree big man, not getting play-offs will be a failure IMO. We have no god given right to promotion just because we are a "big" team.

The problem is we have a, IMO, minority but none the less vocal section of the fanbase whom would not be happy with any owner who didn't have a familiar name.

Ultimately one doesn't concern oneself with what's happening upstairs but unless some enlightened individual can share news AND evidence of wrong doing that jeopardises the club's future then one can only just the administration by the results on the pitch. Right now it appears very good.

Which is exactly why I said promotion this season is a must.

Yeah but he refuses to see that, because he's too busy trying to get one over other fans than to properly judge his mates in the smt on how they are actually doing.
Spot on. Exactly what that post was all about.

And how are they actually doing ? The results on the pitch are paying off, the players they funded the signings for are delivering, the manager they appointed is doing a good job.

If you have news or evidence of some wrongdoing by the SMT or anyone associated with the running of the club that somehow threatens the clubs future please do share ? I'm sure we are all ears.
