If I’m honest (and I’m sure this won’t go down well with a lot of people) I don’t think Tom is completely innocent in this. He was far from stupid, must have known what his daughter was like and I can’t believe he didn’t at least have an inkling what was going on.cafcdave123 said:

According to the daughter herself the books were done and it was always his intention for them to pocket the cash despite their claim it was going to charity’s in his nameDaveMehmet said:

The whole thing was dodgy from start to finish. How much Tom knew about it is questionable. However, the facts are that to retain your title after leaving military service you must have served 15 years. Tom, only served 6 years and therefore didn’t really have the right to continue to use the title Captain. It is also unusual for some one with the fairly low rank of captain, to keep their title after leaving service. That aside I believe he was used by his family completely with the intention of lining their own pockets.

Did his family set out to line their pockets right from the start. I don't think so. Wasn't the name, just a nickname? But boy, when the daughter and her husband saw an opportunity, that's when I think the deception started. Don't think the other daughter has said much or involved?RaplhMilne said:The whole thing was dodgy from start to finish. How much Tom knew about it is questionable. I don't he would have wanted what she claimed, I think it was all her and her husband trying to put their spin on it. I wonder what the other daughter knows and thinkscafcdave123 said:

It’s one of those things we’ll never know the truth and I am reluctant to stick anything on a dead man who did raise a crazy amount of money that did go to the right charities BUT, as mehmet alluded to, he wasn’t a daft old man that was being exploited in his old age so…PrincessFiona said:

At his age, with the greatest of respect to him, he probably was a "daft old man", as most of us would be at that age.cafcdave123 said:

I know you shouldn't judge people purely on how they look, but that daughter looks like a money grabbing grifter with no shame.

I wonder how many books she will sell, I reckon about 50 so that all the media outlets can study it and dig for dirt or to criticise. She would be unwise to do any book signings.0

If I had the money, I would buy the house a commission a life size statue of Sir Tom doing his epic walk. Then in the background his daughter stuffing cash into a sack.5
