It all starts to get very interesting if Wycombe and Wrexham draw on Saturday, and then we manage to beat them both. BIG IFs, still and I;m not yet willing to say we will do it, but 2nd is looking more and more plausible
Wycombe might not even be in touch with autos by the time we play them looking at their run in!
Their game in hand is significant, but yes tough run in for them on paper, although some of those teams may be on the beach by the time they play them.
20/1 was available, just ten days ago, on us finishing in the top two. Betfair Sportsbook have us at a best priced 11/1 which might still represent value given the stuttering form of both Wycombe and Wrexham

I backed us at 40/1 before the birmingham game! This run of results is mental... backed it with all intentions of taking most of it off, but think I will run it now
Please don’t let 2nd place go until the last game of the season. We need to resolve our fate before then.
I couldn’t stand disappointment at the last game if we keep this up until then.
In a way it's a good thing we have Wycombe & Wrexham to play right at the end of the season. Everything is still on the line right up to the end. Would hate to be playing them now knowing that there was still another 8 or 9 games left in which they could catch us. This way we can beat them, leapfrog them & there isnt much they can do.
Just have to beat already relegated Burton last game of the season.
WHOA !!!!
Just came into my head as I typed that last sentence. Remember the recent past when we played teams on the final day who had won the league......and all had names starting with B. Burnley, Brighton & Bournemouth.
Perhaps its payback time & we get promoted facing a team with a B on the last day.
If there is a winner in the Wycombe v Wrexham game on Saturday then they are definitely favourites for 2nd.
Wycombe do have a very tough run in, but it's hard to gauge exactly how tough as the situations will change. For example their last 2 look tough now, but it's likely that by the time they get to those games their opponents will already know their fate, (Orient not making the play offs and Stockport confirmed in the play offs), therefore facing sides with nothing to play for.
We just need to try and win as many of our next 7 as possible before we get to the Wycombe game and then see where we're at.

If a team takes its foot off the gas when they are safely in the play offs they are taking a massive risk with their form going into them.
Great chance of playoffs now . I still think we don’t score enough goals to get the “free” points you would need to go up 2nd, but I thought this team was doomed to 15th 3 months ago so let’s hope I’m wrong again.
I’m trying to view the next couple of games in a blinkered way and ignore the teams above us.
All we have to focus on is trying to win these games. If we can manage that, we know we’re not dropping any positions in the table and playoffs, as a minimum, is looking more and more assured.
We’re really not likely to overhaul either of the teams above us until after that, but we can put some distance between us and those just below us. So that’s all I’m looking at.
If all goes well (which is by no means guaranteed), after those two games we can look upwards again and see how close we are.
2nd is possible but I still think unlikely. It would require a monumental set of results from us. We have to keep that firmly in our sights though. As we all know momentum is at this stage of the season critical. Obviously I would love 2nd spot but getting into playoffs was truly something that I didn’t think possible let alone now perhaps quite likely. I think we’ll know what’s what after another four games.
On current form, apart from Birmingham, we are the form team and the other one that no one wants to have to play. I'd hate, now that there are only two teams outside the play offs that can realistically catch us (and one of those is Huddersfield who have lost four of their last five matches), not to go for those three points for 90 plus minutes plus for the next seven games. The likes of Lincoln, Mansfield, Wigan and Northampton are either in poor form or have next to nothing to play for anyway and Cambridge are relegated anyway (as will Burton hopefully be come our final match of the season).
We just need to do what we've been doing in making ourselves hard to beat and score against when in front but, without being reckless, I would like to see us going for all three points against the likes of Huddersfield or Peterborough if we are drawing going into added time. Should we win all of those seven matches, we will be assured of a playoff place and can then assess what we need to do in the games at Wycombe and Wrexham in order to gain automatic promotion. Settle for draws in two or three of those seven games before then and it won't matter what we do in those final important matches as we will have consigned the autos to the bin.
This shouldn't be about "one game at a time" now. It's all about "three points at a time".
Our autos % has only gone up a few % but look at that play off promotion % now!
I predicted us getting 79 points on the 22nd January. I reckon more than a few lifers were laughing at me at the time. Well, they had every right to. Because we're going to get 87 points.

It's a sign I tell thee.
Wycombe v Wrexham - draw
Wycombe v Charlton - away win
Wrexham v Charlton - away win
Then all three teams would be on 69 points having each played 38 games (37 in Wycombe’s case, but they also have the much harder fixtures left)

Now five points off automatic
Clean sheets at the back
And goals in attack
I want more, but I'm being pedantic
