Not looked at forthcoming fixtures, taking one game at a time. Seen some comments about postponing a game due to international break in order to give the players a rest. I say don’t. Carry on while we have the momentum.
Agree. Also postponing it will give us another 3 game week later on.
Nathan Jones said Lloyd is playing with injections and needs a rest, Josh is running on fumes, why risk them missing later games if we can give them a two week break to recharge their batteries before we go again. I can see the argument about momentum but imagine if we had to go into the play off games without Lloyd and Josh for example. It’s not worth the risk.
Can I just say how refreshing it is to have faith in your goalkeeper. Mannion's handling is excellent - when he comes for it he usually gets a good fist to the ball or catches it. Towards the end they had a couple of corners & 1 he came right out & caught it. Took all the pressure off.
And he's kicking is not too shabby either.
Most importantly, it's been good to see him make some saves.
Shot stopping is the area where he has been a long way behind AMB until recently.
Sparrows Lane will be pretty good place to be this week. All age levels winning big games and a home fixture to prep for at The Valley this Saturday. The club hasn’t felt this positive for a long time.
Woken up this morning, feeling fine … Don’t know about anyone else but I think the pressure is all on the other clubs in the play off positions. They all seem to be wobbling at the minute and Huddersfield have already pressed the panic button by sacking their manager. Charlton, on the other hand, are like an unfancied horse in the Derby. We’ve coming through the field unnoticed and we’re going to sneak up to the finishing stronger than the favourites. It’s all going our way.
I don't think Miles suits our current game plan - We seem more dangerous with Godden on the pitch.
We are now 5 points into the play off places, we look comfortable defensively, though crawley squandered a few chances when they did get in the box, same as the last game.
I feel like we are really close to being a top side but there are still areas of concern.
In terms of support from the Home end last night, Crawley's fans were praising of how loud we were and I actually was around maybe 10 -15 other charlton fans in the home terrace. There was no animosity towards me or the other CAFC fans, they were actually pretty fair, though the ref did start giving us a lot of the 50-50 fouls. Not sure Quitirna dived either...

The the frightening thing for me is that if we hadn’t had such a turnover of managers then Jones could easily have gone earlier in the season & we would have been starting all over again & definitely wouldn’t be in the position we are today. I wanted Jones to be our manager but even I was having doubts after the home Crawley game. It just shows sometimes if you stick with what you’ve got & as the song goes’Have a little patience’ then good things can happen. There’s too much knee jerk reaction these days, particularly with social media, unfortunately. Even Ferguson & Wenger, and Curbishley come to that took time to build something, so what Jones has done in such a short space of time is nothing short of remarkable. He will get an another bad spell in his Charlton career as that’s inevitable, but I hope people then don’t start jumping all over him again because we definitely have the right man in place. I know to a certain extent managers do have a shelf life but you do have to give a reasonable amount of time to assess the overall picture. That picture is looking pretty rosy at the moment. Proud of the boys. We really do have our Charlton back. Thanks Nathan.
Jones saying about rest and recovery reminds me of Sir Chris Hoy talking about the Olympic cyclists. They lived by "don't stand when you can sit, dont sit when you can lay down".

Why can't you just celebrate our team's success with clean sheets, there was no need to bring up goals scored!
But just for you, we've scored 11 goals less than Birmingham, which personally I think is pretty damn close considering they spent 30 million quid in the summer.

I didn't have the best angle of it, as the goal and a lot of players were between me and it, if he did dive then fair enough, however if he simply 'fell' which is what I thought occurred his yellow card seems harsh. Either way it had no effect on the game.
On the subject of ex academy players, I thought Barker was really good for Crawley in the first half and I thought Quitirna looked good if a little weak. On ex CAFC players Camara was typically himself. Wollacott was pretty poor. Oh and Watson was pants. Came on to take corners and even the Crawley fans laughed at his efforts.
Called the result to my mate before, could us getting a scrappy 1-0. Game should have been put to bed but fair play to the boys, we stood up defensively and looked solid.
Lloyd Jones is my player of the year, he’s been immense this season and is a colossal. Kayne and Cov close seconds. So many top performers in this team.

There's a comment on the marks thread about Miles relating to how easily he is knocked off the ball at times. I thought I read somewhere he's now 6'7", so 2" taller than last year. I'd say he's still adapting to his height and needs a bit of time to get the physicality his size should give him.

ok, if we are all going to post crap like that then here’s my wild theory on Mile’s Leaburn’s recent games. It’s a bit left field but bear with me. His mum has been training for the run for the Prostrate Cancer charity. If I had to take a wild guess I’d bet meals at home have taken a turn for the worse and become, god forbid, ‘healthy’ with a vengeance. Now, obviously Miles didn’t get that physique by not watching what he eats but if you are going to run around for 90+ minutes you need to consume some things that make you feel good, not slim, because those are usually the ones that provide the fuel your body’s engine burns up if you are active. If that’s the case, hopefully things will return to normal, that or Big Carl will sneak him out for a cheeky Nando’s and Miles will be firing on all cylinders for the rest of the run in. He’s destined for big things and it’ll be good to see him achieve it, whether that’s with charlton or a much bigger side.

To be fair he did a good flick on header late on that took us right into the corner. Ref decided to give a goal kick instead of a throw in to us. But I'd have Kanu over him every time.
