Well Alonso’s crash and the rain have suddenly livened this all up substantially.

Oh Oscar. Too keen to keep Verstappen behind him having lost it once and then binned it completely.

Ferrari’s strategists up to their usual tricks.

Or will a safety car help them here?

No it won’t, they’ve fucked it. The Spurs of formula one.

Albon up to 4th, Antonelli 5th, Hulkenburg 7th. Both Ferraris could have been ahead of all of them with some better pit wall calls. Their strategists really are a disaster.

Brilliant drive from Norris. Antonelli outstanding too and very unlucky with the penalty to deny him 4th. Good race in the end.

Sometimes youth isn't all it's cracked up to be. Mind you two old codgers binned it too!

Lawson was very disappointing, Max must insist on weak team mates as a condition of signing, otherwise I can't see why RB didn't put a driver in who can earn some decent points like Albon or Gasly (who have improved since they last had a chance).

Russell third even though he was barely mentioned in the race.

Mclaren would have beaten the field by 30 seconds if it hadn't rained.

Antonelli was absolutely mega. He's going to give George a few headaches.

Good to see the penalty overturned too.

Shame Sainz binned it, think Williams would have had a strong result in the end.

Huge pressure on Lawson and Doohan already

So now Bangkok on the list...how many circuits are too many!?  What with an African GP rumoured too!?

No these will just end up replacing the legacy tracks, already Zandvoort is out after this year... So Bangkok could technically replace that on the Calendar - Madrid will be replacing Catalunya so easy decision there

Spa is going to become a track that is raced at on alternate seasons, include Imola in that (or just get rid of it), and that's another space suddenly free, which could be used for the Rwanda GP.

My biggest complaint is there are just too many Street Circuits now, its getting ridiculous

There are some circuits like Imola which just arent suitable for F1 now, especially if F2 / F3 cant produce good racing, whilst a lot don't have the history of Monaco - But how long is it before we're at risk of losing Silverstone, Interlagos or Suzuka for example?

Silverstone is probably the next big one at threat, as imagine they're desperate to have a London race.

We are overdue another daft plan for a London GP street circuit layout that has no actual basis in reality.

I think they need to have a pool of 32 or so tracks and rotate them in a 24 race schedule, and not have any of them "safe" so every circuit misses a year every 4 years.

That or 12 of them are locked in and the remaining 12 spots are rotated between the other 20 locations

    Silverstone
    Spa
    Zandvoort
    Hockenheim
    Paul Ricard
    Portimao
    Barcelona
    Madrid
    Monaco
    Imola
    Monza
    Spielberg
    Hungaroring
    Istanbul
    Baku
    Qatar
    Bahrain
    Abu Dhabi
    Jeddah
    Kyalami
    Beijing
    Bangkok
    Singapore
    Sepang
    Suzuka
    Melbourne
    Sao Paulo
    Mexico City
    Las Vegas
    Austin
    Miami
    Montreal

I make that 32, and tbh a couple of them could easily be replaced (a London GP instead of Imola/Paul Ricard for instance)

Silverstone signed a new contract just last year to host a GP there until 2034.

Other long term ones not going anywhere for a while.

    Melbourne 2037
    Bahrain 2036
    Qatar 2032
    Hungary 2032
Montreal, Spa, Monza, Monaco, Miami 2031
Shanghai, Jeddah/Qiddiya, Sao Paulo, Austria, Abu Dhabi (final race) - 2030
    Japan 2029
    Singapore 2028

Have they even started the Qiddiya circuit?

Or do Saudi just present fantasy lands and buildings over and over again and not actually build them?
  • I love Spa.    Would be very disappointed if it went.     But also fairly sure it would be reinstated quite quickly.

Yeah construction has started, some Saudi motorsport guy shared images a few months ago. I think the aim is to have it for ready for 2027.

I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see Qiddiya and Jeddah on the calendar.

Its a shame that Jeddah is, where it is... as its one of my favourite tracks on the Calendar

So will be disappointed if its removed from the Calendar, but be silly (yet unsurprising) to have two Saudi tracks.

As we know, money talks and with the money Saudi would probably pay, it wouldn't surprise me to see one track as the Saudi GP and one track as a 'Middle East' GP.
