Was in the The Brown Bear in Whitechapel on Saturday and was surprised to see this, thought it has died out in the 70s.
You say you saw this.....did you actually drink it?

Re-introduced last year by Allsopp's Brewery.

Peterborough, Ostrich Inn, Saturday lunchtime. What a marvellous, marvellous pub this is.
We tried a couple of craft beer places but they didn't come close to this.

The Guinness settling behind the bar was mine.

Fox Farm Arietta at Proletariat in NYC. Excellent 7.2% hopped sour, improved by Roadrunner by the Modern Lovers playing in the background.

That was going to be my last beer in Proletariat, but then I found this on the bottle list - De Dolle Brouwers - 2019 Special Reserva Oerbier.

11% sour as f**k, in a way that only Belgians can make. Brought back memories of some of the beers we used to hunt down in my younger days. I’m just upset i didn’t bring any Tums, but there’s bound to be a 24 hour chemists around here somewhere.

Evil Twin Rauch Lager - 5% smoked lager conditioned on oak.  Lightly smoked, very dry finish but quite refreshing after walking over the Manhattan Bridge to DUMBO.

I've been buying bottles of various Fuller's beers from Waitrose while the modest offer is still on (3 for £5.85). I've never been a huge fan of London Pride but I absolutely love Black Cab stout, London porter and ESB. I've got an 1845 lurking somewhere in the cupboard too. All lovely.

Proper Evil Twin beer - Luxurious Luxury - 15 year anniversary beer. A collaboration with The Veil, it’s supposedly a sour, but it’s got so much fruit in it you really wouldn’t know it. Very mildly tart, but mostly you can taste the mango and bananas. Not so much the marshmallow.  Have yet to spot any of the gold flakes. It’s a 9.15% smoothie. Very nice, if you like fruity beer.

Just for context- here’s todays sours menu

A quick walk through Brooklyn, and its Other Half time.  First up - All Nelson Everything. 8.5% double NEIPA. Nice bitterness, but that really smooth fruitiness you get from Nelson Sauvin hops.

Picked this up  from the Hertog Jan brewery in Holland last year. Limited edition release matured in rhum agricole barrels. Delicious but not for necking at 13%!

Ok so it's not beer. But this cider is the best I've had in a very long time. Bought it at Teals services on the A303 and drank it this evening. Clean, delicious, tastes of cider not chemicals, unlike all the flavoured shit that seems so popular now.
Ingredients listed as "Apple juice". Perhaps that's why.
    6.8%.

    Celebrating our forthcoming Wembley appearance.
This caipiroska is with sugar, a little sweet but fantastic.  I'll have another one to sleep well tonight.

To celebrate the playoffs, and a warm up for tonight’s Arch Enemy concert- Fox Farm Nera - raspberry and blackberry foeder beer. Slightly sour, a little fruity but not a lot as they made it with previously used fruit from a different beer. Dry finish.  Very pleasant, because it’s not overpowered by the fruit.

Coopers. Made a stout, which is half decent bearing in mind it's been bottled only a couple of weeks. Made a cider too, but think it might be off. Will see what happens to that. Not quite at the stage where I'll be mashing by own grains and hops, but it does sound fun

By volume this might well work out the most expensive beer I've had. 9€ for 2%. Still , it's nice and lemony and refreshing as a morning livener. Disappointed to find out its Heineken rather than a genuine local beer.

I don't drink these days, so pretty out of touch with beer scene.

Was keen to have a 0% beer tonight. The only 'alcohol free' option in pub was Lucky Saint. But barmaid mentioned it was 0.5% but labelled (by the brewery) as alcohol free.

I went for a coke instead, as the 0.5% put me off.

For those who know there stuff about beer, is this usual for a beer to be sold as alcohol free but actually have a percentage, even if it is on the low side.

Yes. Up to 0.5% is classified as alcohol-free.
Guinness 0.0 is zero percent alcohol, so zero beers so exist

so the 0.5% stuff is a bit of a misnomer, it usually means up to a max of 0.5. it's worth noting that many lemonades, ginger beers, kombuchas, fruit juices and even vinegar, bananas, bread and other foodstuffs contain up to 0.5% alcohol by volume (alc./vol.). However, there is no requirement to declare this alcohol content on the label as they are categorised as 'soft drinks' or 'foods'.

Even if it is 0.5% you would need to drink so much of it to get effected by it you would be risking water intoxication first as you would need to drink more than 20 0.5%  beers (and thats assuming they are actually exactly 0.5%) in such a short amount of time to get your blood alcohol level to around the drink driving level.

All that said the above is only the science of ABV%, if your choice not to drink is due to an alcohol issue (no judgement what so ever), I would speak to a professional addiction expert about drinking non-alcoholic beers.

I'm not surprised if you compare the size of the bottle to the person behind the bar.

In Germain speaking countries a Radler is the equivalent of a Shandy, hence the 2% alcohol.
