Why hate Palace?

  • Really worried about their FA cup run. Villa on the face of it is tough game but with Villa's champions league campaign I think they may well be very undercooked. Praying they do the business and knock Sainsbury's Superstore FC out.
They demolished Villa 4-1 only a month ago and even drew 2-2 with them when Palace were shit earlier in the season.  They have won 11 of their last 14 games I think.

A wide Wembley pitch will likely play into their hands too.

I make Palace favourites but hope they play badly and get spanked.
    Selhurst Park pitch is 101m x 68m.

    Wembley pitch is 105m x 68m.

I think Villa will be out of the CL before the FA Cup semi as i really can't see them getting past PSG.

Villa also have a pretty strong squad these days and can rotate players. Just in attacking areas they have Watkins, Rashford, Rogers, Asensio, Bailey, Ramsey and Malen.

You know whats going to happen, as sure as eggs are eggs they will beat Villa.

I've been hating them since the night we beat them 1-0 at the Valley way back in the mid seventies, when we went up that season and they didn't. Malcom Alison and his big mouth, a third division manager that the press loved a quote from no matter how ridiculous.
Ron Noades is another reason to hate them, he sucked the blood out of our corpse of a club.
Didn't that reason die with him in 2013, or do you think his ghost is still haunting us?

The way I see it, it's no skin of my nose if they win the thing, so I'm not worried about it, but I'd rather they didn't, even though my nephews live in deep in Palace territory. Both Gooners 🤣
Just because the man is dead doesn't mean I can't still despise him and what he did to our club. You must remember our Selhurst days.
Ok you don't care if they win the cup, that probably is a good way to look at football if you can, I bet your nephews have a different opinion.
  • No need to hate Palace when there's a perfectly good Millwall around. Of course I don't want them to win the cup, and I would like to see them relegated, but our rivals are the spanners, not them.
  • My dislike of Palace is learned. I have more of a natural hatred of Arsenal and Liverpool for some reason.

He was never welcoming to us during our stay at Smellhurst which permeated its way down to other members of their staff.
They were standoffish and never gelled or were friendly to our bunch in the portacabins and we were often made to feel inferior and irrelevant.
Noades set the scene and the sheep followed.
One glaring example was when someone would mistakenly phone their contact number wanting to speak to us, if you then asked for our number they would say they don’t have it…..fucking bullshit of course.

Ah yes. I remember them well. And with no great fondness I can tell you, standing as I did in the half hour wait enclosure, a reluctant regular. Back then, I remember despising Palace, but I don't feel that way about them all these years later, or other rival clubs for that matter, and I'm not going to make out I do just because others do, who's views I can respect. I've already said (shouldn't need saying) that I don't want Palace to win it, but I shan't be crying into my beer if they do. I will if we miss out on promotion.

My nephews have no great love for Spurs now, to put it mildly, but I've no idea if they'll still despise them later on in life.

  • Before we were promoted in 98 the feathered ones were very so what about us, but then gradually they took more interest in us once we got more successful.
Prior to the 4-2 game at Highbury I had a bet with an Arsenal mate of mine, whoever lost the game bought the beers that night.  I was living in Shortlands at the time and used The George in Beckenham quite a bit, so back we went there.
Beckenham back then was more p***** than us, my mate took things on the chin and was going back to bar quite regularly, on the few minutes he had time to sit down before I waved my glass at him for the 8th time, this geezer was walking out and said to me "I f****** hate Charlton" :D my mate had to ask me who the geezer supported!
  • Stupid question. Next.

I have personal reasons for hating that club but I don't even need them to justify it. That clubs is a non-entity. It's the club that people choose to support when they don't know anything about football and want to pick a club that isn't a big gun or is local. It's a members club for morons.

I mean this with every ounce of my being: I do not take seriously a single word any of them say about football. It's the same as when my mum or sister comment on a game on the TV. There's nothing to gain from talking to them, they don't know a fucking thing about what they're watching. And I tell them that to their faces. My in-laws are supporters and they are bemused at how much I lose my shit when they get me started. They do it for fun but I cannot help it.  Crucially, they never have a defence. They make jibes at the plight of the Addicks and yet I don't give a fuck about that, it's not relevant to my point. This isn't tribal - I hate them because they are fucking no-marks.

They're desperate to have some sort of cache. Age of the club, location, quality of support - they are desperate to be something other than the utterly uninteresting football club that they are. They've got no angle no matter how hard they try to find one.

I hate that they have had FA Cup runs to enjoy, and I cannot handle how close they have come to winning it. BUT... United beating them is in the top 10 non-Charlton celebrations I have ever had. Maybe top 3. It was worth the tension. The pay off was brilliant.

The cup final was a worrying time, lager with vodka chasers were had that night.
The s*** we have gone through and going in opposite directions for the past 20 years has been worth it for the joy of the 15th May 2005.
