First time through the Blackwall today for me since the Silvertown opened. The left turn to Greenwich on exiting the tunnel across the traffic exiting the Silvertown tunnel will certainly be challenging when it's busy.

I imagine a lot of drivers won't remember to pay the toll - interesting to see what happens..
Same as Dartford, register the car once and you dont need to remember to pay. If youre like me and forget when you get a new car, the first couple of penalty notices are a handy reminder.

Ive come through the blackwall a few times with not so much traffic but as long as you're in that left lane when exiting the blackwall I can't see getting the left for the o2 exit will be that difficult.

Depends if the Silvertown traffic is cutting across - curious to see how it copes if traffic is heavy.

All the way up to tower bridge has been gridlocked all week and most of the day. Was taking some nearly an hour to get from Limehouse link to tower bridge along the highway but there was also a closure on commercial road both ways. Surely can't be people taking a different route because of the toll.

    Are people that desperate?

I dont think so to avoid paying a couple of quid but being Easter holidays it's been surprising how bad the tower bridge area has been this week and getting from the Limehouse link westbound. It's usually a breeze to get in during the holidays.

Wondered if there was a closure or something. Would've been Tuesday or Wednesday.I turned right to go through the link so couldn't see too much of what was happening up ahead on commercial.

A good review. It is a really crap idea at a ridiculous cost that solves nothing...👍

    What's the initial concencus?
Has the traffic build up on the Northbound approaches improved any? Google maps during peak times suggests it has somewhat.
My initial concerns about Rotherhithe chocking up on the north side seems premature.
Been fine the last couple of evenings.

Yes, it has substantially improved matters in the mornings. There are now often no queues at all between 7-10 at least back to the a102 woolwich road, these happened every day previously.

The a102 is normally clear around 8am buts gets clogged from about then due to the weight of traffic while the LTN blockages are operational and then eases back up after 10am when the restrictions cease and traffic can use a larger number of roads.

You are suggesting the LTNs don’t work? Who’d have thought it. 😉😆

    Has anyone been fined?

I have used Blackwall and Silvertown several times since opening.  Already had TFL autopay set up for congestion charge, so assumed ok.

Looked on my TFL account the other day and could see no record of any use of Blackwall (thought maybe just early stage gremlins).  Then got a PCN via lease company this morning plus admin charge.

That's likely to be the first of its kind think 12!!  Over £1,000 in fines!!

Do you have this set up on your account? If yes then dispute the PCN

I used the tunnel last Friday and set up a direct debit with TFL. My account shows that i used the tunnel that day with the payment to be taken from my bank account at the start of next month

I see there are moves afoot to standardise how to pay for parking in all different places.
I believe that other motoring financial stuff should be standardised too, so any controlled parking zone by your home, the ULEZ payment, the congestion charge payment, the Silvertown/Blackwall payment and also the Dartford crossing should become like the parking, only one thing.

Clearly I needed to read this thread before as I've now been fined for going through the Blackwall Tunnel ahead of our play off semi. It was the first time I'd driven to a game in years and was oblivious to the charge. I don't recall any signs/notices warning of it and if there were any I probably assumed they were for ULEZ for which my car is exempt.
Funny how little signage there was for something that only came into force in April. The priority is to ease congestion not to make money of course!
Anyway, a warning to everyone driving to the Valley or in the area.....make sure you check.

Got mine setup with auto-pay. With this setup if they send you a charge you can appeal against it.

I drove through it 2 weeks ago and forgot to pay.

I got a warning letter telling me I'd be fined next time.

I noticed for the home semi final they never charged me for the journey north. You can keep a check of all transactions, and they provide the ANPR photographs too to prove your car was there. Setting up the account was a faff, but linking a card easy. Also does congestion charge if you need to head further into town.

The journey north was probably after 22.00 which is free.

Charges apply for each crossing, in both directions, for both tunnels during charging hours. To help spread traffic levels more evenly and reduce congestion, a peak charge applies during the busiest times (06:00-10:00 northbound and 16:00-19:00 southbound weekdays). An off-peak charge applies at all other times and during weekends 06:00 to 22:00, and is only available to customers registered with Auto Pay. Charges apply on all bank holidays except Christmas Day. There will be no charge to use the tunnels overnight from 22:00 to 06:00. Use our vehicle checker to see what you will need to pay.

Used the new tunnel last Friday. Obviously an amazing experience 🙄

Anyone find that getting into the TFL pre-pay account is an absolute f***in nightmare?

We just missed a Bexleyheath train at London Bridge on Sunday so jumped in a 6 seater uber back to The Camden. Came through the Silvertown and the driver looked a bit puzzled at 6 pissed up herbets singing "you're just a shit Blackwall tunnel" as we went through it.

To be fair, it's been open a good while now, so it's only right and fair that it needs to be closed for maintenance work!

Re-plaster and a bit of emulsion will sort it out.
