They're not even from a real "palace".

    • False advertising, mate. It's just Croydon.

They have an eagle but aren't called the Eagles originally.

    • They borrowed the eagle mascot idea in the 70s from Benfica. Copycat FC.

The stadium still has obstructed views.

    • Welcome to Selhurst Park. Enjoy the pole in your face.

The "ultras" act like they're in the San Siro.

    • You're in Croydon, not Rome. Relax.

They claim to be a South London club but are basically in Surrey.

    • Pick a location and stick with it.

Brighton rivalry — they act like it's mutual.

    • Ask 90% of non-Brighton fans and they won’t even know it’s a rivalry.  Or care.

That awful claret and blue knockoff kit.

    • Barcelona are filing a cease and desist.

    Zaha drama.

    • Fell over when the wind changed direction.

    Their chants are... repetitive.

    • "We love you, we love you, we love you" — WE GET IT.

(Almost) every season is a (successful) relegation flirt.

    • The footballing equivalent of your flaky friend who always cancels last-minute.

    Steve Parish’s haircut.

    • CEO or boyband reunion tour?

They sacked Patrick Vieira for... Roy Hodgson (again).

    • Retirement home vibes.

"Historic" club with no major trophies.

    • 100+ years of nearly.

    Cheerleaders.

    • Actual cheerleaders. In the Premier League. Why?

The name "Crystal Palace" sounds like a Vegas casino.

    • Or a dodgy strip club off the M25.

Jason Puncheon once took a dump mid-game.

    • Literally left the pitch to do it.

The badge has had more makeovers than Madonna.

    • Pick one and chill.

They celebrate staying up like they won the league.

    • Par for the course, I guess.

One of their mascots is a crystal.

    • That’s not even an animal.

They made Brexit look less chaotic than their transfer windows.

    • Panic buys galore.

Selhurst Park away end is a time warp.

    • You’ll leave with tetanus and PTSD.

Because they think they’re a "massive" club.

    • Delusions of competence.

Palace to Brighton , journey wise takes prolly the same time as palace to Charlton , it’s a bit weird it takes forever to get there
they don’t feel South East London to me what is Charlton palace the South Circular derby   Fuck them distant freak show , must be a Bromley thing .

    scum aren’t that far away
Orient and West Ham are nearer than palace
scum misery has been our only bright spots in recent times , that Blackburn result was comfortably the footballing highlight of last seasons shitfest

Another Hypothetical one for you all, you have to choose one…

    A. Millwall win the play offs and make it to the promised land

    B. Palace win the FA Cup

    what you going with?
    A.

Just to see you get no points and score no goals in the Premier League.

Played  Won  Drawn  Lost  F     A      Pts

    20. Millwall      38       0        0       38    0   127     0

Only conceding 127 goals? They would bite your hand off for that.
Yeah I’d take that to be fair

Definitely A. We're the only one of the three that's got a major trophy to our name. It's far more important to me that that remains the case.

Much like us, and Palace, the most you can hope for is a few seasons treading water in the Premier League. I'll be jealous that you're up there, but nothing I haven't experienced myself.

I think I'd rather you went up than Palace qualified for Europe as well.
But you lot love coming out with the “you’ve never played in the premier league” line to us.

Like football was invented in 1992.

Yes I agree the whole ‘top division only started only started in 1992’ vibe / feel / way it is portrayed (IMO) is utter bollocks

But even if we dropped the premier league bit, and replaced it with how long we spent in the top division (adding the seasons up etc) compared to Smallwall, well……..

    It’s a slam dunk isn’t it 😃

I thought that the person in charge of the music at Newcastle deciding to play "Glad All Over", as the players traipsed off having stuffed Palace 5-0 was a burn of particular evilness. I heartily approve.

Have I really got to explain this here? 😆

We’ve played in the top flight. Just because the top flight now has a different name doesn’t mean we have never played in it.

Seems like you’re the one who needs it explaining…It wasn’t just about the name change. The 92 Sky deal changed the finances massively. Which made the gap between the top two tiers grow far bigger than it had been before. So it is significant to say you’ve never played in the Prem because when you were in the top division it wasn’t as difficult to get or stay there.

That’s such a daft concept I’m not sure if you’re on a wind up or not. Regardless of how difficult or not you think the top flight was at any given time in history, it’s still the top flight. Always has been from when football started.

Are all of liverpools title wins meaningless because most of them happened outside of the PL era?

I’d say the FA Cup was easier to win back in the 1930’s, when you look at the variety of teams who won it back then compared to now. Does that mean the one you Charlton won back then doesn’t count? Of course not. Don’t talk daft mate.

Out of interest, how old are you? Is the 99 in your username the year you was born? That might explain a lot to be honest.

And besides, it’s all relative. Regardless of how good the top flight was at any given period, you had to be one of the best 20 or so teams out of the 92 to play there.

I’m not. Ok, the Sky deal didn’t bring in loads of money then and the gulf is always the same as it has been.

    No. Why would they be?

Probably not seeing as we didn’t win it in the 30s.

Look at the variety of teams that won the FA Cup in that era compared to now. Which would imply there’s a bigger gulf in the fa cup now than there was then. So is your fa cup win any less valid? Course not.

Anyway, it’s a mental argument and I can’t believe I’m actually having it lol.  I doubt anyone on here agrees with you but hey ho. Have a good day 👍

I wouldn’t normally do this but seeing as you called it mental, I asked Google/AI.

Yes, reaching the Premier League is arguably more difficult than ever before due to increased competition, the rise of elite academies, and the growing global reach of the league. While not all teams struggle equally, the general consensus is that the level of competition at all levels of English football is increasing, making it harder for teams to advance to the top flight.

That’s probably wrong as well though according to you.

Weird thread. Anyway it would so obviously be better for Millwall to tour the Prem for 1 season and cement their wannabe 'ard pariah legend than Palace to take what's ours, I can't believe this is a debate

Seen a few posts looking at past trade offs, but how about future ones.

If you could choose only one of the following this season, which would it be?

    a) Charlton get promoted
    b) Palace don't win FA Cup

(You must assume if you pick one, then other won't happen as it's a trade off?)

I'm an 'a', so would rather go up and Palace win the cup than we don't and Palace lose.
    I'm afraid I'm more of a b)...

The mere thought of the Nigels having a open top bus parade around the streets of Croydon makes me want to heave...
Thing is you’re a big club for this league. If you don’t go up this season you’ll have a very good chance in the next year or two.

If palace won the FA Cup they would have that under their belt and we would never hear the fucking end of it.
    Absolutely agree.

I’d choose for us not to go up and for them to fail in the FA Cup this season. It sounds daft just writing that but I really think we’re building something and so we’d probably  be bettter off for survival in The Championship  by going up automatically in 2026.

As for the other choice, I’d rather Millwall go up than Palace win the FA Cup.

So, in both cases, I’d choose the Palace to fail option.
